This is a survivor, sure she's rotted and not the original numbers matching engine but most of these convertible Impala's rot to the ground. She can become a beautiful restored car or just metalwork, new interior along with the top and leave it as is. Looks like Bill had a great time driving it!

I have a 62 Impala SS that's been sitting in the trees for 46 years. It's a hardtop with a transplanted 283. Had a 348 in it when I bought it as a kid. It was a blown up 348 so I put the 283 in it.

I like the focus and lack of talking. You can't go wrong fiddling around with an old small block Chevy with a stick shift. Going to be a fun car whatever you decide to do with it.

My dad was a chevy guy thru & thru... I was very young , but my mothers baby sister asked my dad what kind of car she should buy... My dad told her to buy a Chevy Impala . It was the best bang for her buck.. I remember well when she rolled into the drive with a brand new 67 Impala SS. My dad was shocked & so was I... My dad & I walked around the car, opened the hood & there set a beautiful 396 . We took it for a spin & as my dad wound thru the gears , he asked my aunt why in the world she bought the SS ?? She simply asked , whats an SS ? She had no idea that car was built to run.. She just liked the color . And she said after test driving it , she liked how "zippy" it was... 10 yrs later I bought that car... She had parked it because the exhaust was bad & it had an oil leak... It had 68000 miles on it.. I put valve cover gaskets on it & a new exhaust . It was in excellent shape . Whats more, my aunt drove it like a girl & never missed an oil change... Thats one I wish I had kept... But I was young & after a few yrs I sold it. If we only knew then what we know now .

I had a '64 Impala SS, convertible, white exterior, white top, black interior, 327 with a muncie 4 spd. Beautiful car and it ran great, plus my girlfriend loved it, especially with the top down. I really wanted a '62 SS hardtop with a 409 4 speed, but couldn't find one.

I was born in 1963 and my aunt and uncle had one of these impalas I remember that speaker in the back seat. I must have been remembering when I was about 6 or 7, 8 or so when they had that car not sure but it was in the sixties. My aunt hit somene that pulled out in front of her and totalled it. My cousin was terrified of the car after that. I never saw it again but I remember it was so nice. I used to stand up in the back floor board and listen to that speaker when we were flying down the road. I noticed the floor board in that car are not rusted out? It was blue and not a covertable it was a hard top. They use to give you your moneys worth.

My parents got one in '64, a red 2 door hardtop automatic. I think they loved blowing around in it with us kids in the back. I remember using ice to get chewing gum out of the upholstery after falling asleep in the back! Than was an annoying job my mom made me do. Grandparents came down in their '63 4 door hardtop which later became my sister's run around ride! Those were great, big cars ! I don't think we ever had a minute of trouble with them.

I grew in SW PA about 90 miles east of Pittsburgh in the 60s. The body rot reminds me of that area in that time. Back in the mid 60s, if a car was driven regularly in the winter, after about 3 years, there would be holes in the body somewhere - thanks to salt on the roads to melt the ice. After maybe 8-10 years, some had to be junked because the frame roted. Having a '64 Impala SS, 327, 4-spd back then could have only been topped (for a Chey person) by having a 409 instead of a 327. The 327 was (IMHO) one of the best of the original generation small block Chevy engines. This car would have been quite "cool" and a definite "chick magnet" in the 60s. I don't "get" the copyright, thing in the video. The background music maybe? And some of the explanations are obviously for non-car folks. I had to chuckle at a couple of them. The guy with the cigarette hanging out of his mouth could have been me back in the day. I used to smoke like a chimney. Anyway, interesting post. Nice to see people resurrecting these old cars. "Back in the day" they were cool and with a lot of work and a lot of $$$ they can be cool again.

Pete thats a cool car it reminds me that my dad bought a 64 biscayne 2 door in 1974 from my cheap uncle no radio no ps pb 3 0n the tree 6 cyl it was black red interoior it needed a carrior bearing on the drive shaft i was 13 i helped my father put the bearing in and we test drove it back and forth on the street in front of the house and we ran my dog over you could feel the car thump i got out of the car and my dog was yelping and crying in the yard and an hour later my dog was perfectly fine true story.But the car had a perfect body 2 years later the whole back end saged down the frame rotted .I also remember seeing alot of those 64s saged out in the mid 70s.This car was garaged kept in a damp garage . My uncle bought 1974 chevy 1/2 ton to replace the biscayne same plain jane .In 1986 he bought 86 1/2 ton he gave me the 74 to undercoat the 86 the 74 was rusted bad he drove it with a 5 gallon can full of gas in the bed. both 64 and 74 only had 50000 miles Tom im from the pittsburgh area also

That can be one hell of a nice ride once you guys get it fixed up can't tell if it's a 283 or 327 but it looks like a small block 396 is had huge head. Or valve covers either way or speed awesome convertible two-door damn that would be a sweet ride when it's all fixed up. That is a Chevy classic. Oh there is a little rust on that left side isn, t there, well even that can be replaced.
@larryburton5516
@larryburton5516 2 жыл бұрын
The crossed flags on the side of the front fenders I'm pretty sure indicates that the original engine was a 327. And, I believe it's the 250 HP 327 engine. If you got the 300 HP engine with a four speed it also included the factory tach which this car doesn't have. I bought a 64 SS new with the 300 HP four speed. OK, I did not watch till the end of the video but the guy said that the engine was a 68 so evidently the original engine was changed. But, I do think the original engine was a 327 250 HP engine because it doesn't have the factory tach that I believe was standard with the four speed.

@@larryburton5516 I don't think they put a 250 HP with a 4 speed. I think you got a power glide with a 250. I think this is 300. They didn't put 283's in an SS David

@larryburton5516 Жыл бұрын
@@518jimg David, actually I believe you could get a six, 283, 327, or 409 in a 64 SS. The SS Package in 64 I believe was just a styling package with different exterior trim and the bucket seat/console interior.
