That's probably very wise. I love 1440P but it spoils you and then the GPU has to be upgraded if it isn't enough to drive it next. It's a slippery slope. I ended up with both an old HD ready monitor, using a tv 1080P we had anyway, and then buying a 1440P monitor (April 2020). Am playing 1440P but it took a new build to get to that point. 1080P was decent. My friend on 1440P UW also has a hard time to drive it, so there's the eventually GPU upgrade that comes after the monitor upgrade. I feel like the best jump was for watching media rather than gaming if that makes any sense for what I notice as a wow factor. In 2023 I finally have that gaming experience I wanted in 2020. Upgrading is a slippery slope/money pit.

Another thing to consider is upscaling. Any upscaling struggles A LOT at 1080p output resolution . Since it's the single best optimization feature present in most games these days, better than any other Setting you can mess with, and the value of which is Higher the Higher the output resolution , that is an important factor that will "push" more people into 1440p. Your game literally becomes better optimized in terms of visual quality / power required to draw it.
@CrazySerb Жыл бұрын
Not really. Both DLSS and FSR cost performance because there is no special fixed function hardware to run algorithm on. Since you can't choose acrual algorithm like in unreal 4+. For exanple. 5-tap lanczos 2 (mid tier in ue4) will reduce performance by up to 20%. While picture quality does improve over just 1080p rendering. It will not be compara le to actual 1440p. The only reason why DLSS and FSR can look beter than native is because devs can't be bothered to adjust or give us controls over taa, sharpening and upscaling, which is like 10 minutes of work for unreal4+ since commands are built in already.

Right now I am in a bind when it comes to new monitors. My cheap-but-decent options boil down to: $265 - 27" IPS 1440p@180Hz 1 ms response $480 - 27" IPS 4k@160Hz 1ms response My reasoning, whatever screen I buy will be with me for the next 5-10 years. Thus, investing in the 4k option makes a bit of sense, but I also want two screens and it doesn't make $1000+ sense for two screens. I don't really mind if I can't properly drive the screen right now, my next PC will come and pwn the current one completely, and a 180Hz screen with a 40Hz app refresh rate is still perfectly viable. I am currently rocking a 1440p@75 Hz IPS, it's decent but it's not great, I could keep this and just go for a single 1440p more I suppose. I hate different-res panels though.

The big reasons for 1080p on the recent Galaxy S and S Plus is both for battery and because most people can't really see the difference as the pixel density at 1080p is still far higher than any 4k (2160p) monitor or TV. The problem isnt monitor prices, its whats required to drive them at very high settings and higher fps. You need a 3080 12GB up to play modern AAA games to guarantee 60fps, now you want closer to 100fps 4070Ti worst case and that has 12GB of VRAM so not really a good buy, 4080 and 7900XT recommended So to use your nice 1440p monitor, 1K on the graphics card alone. But you can turn down settings, so wait you want more pixels but then worse quality. I know its a balance between settings and resolutions but whats the point of moving up to a higher res, which normally comes with a screen size increase to only make all those pixels look worse Edit: I was looking at getting a 1440p Ultrawide for work and then realized I would need a 4090 to play games and use the monitor properly. There is a lot of ultra wide support communities and apps like Flawless widescreen that make it so easy. As for the phone thing, it's not just the phone it's the internet plan. If you are still doing 4g and not on wifi then you probably can't even watch in 1080p because it's too choppy.

I think as games are starting to have more photorealistic graphics, you really need to jump up to 1440p to have the games look like they should. 1080p was sharp enough for games over 5 years ago, but for games that have been released over the past year or so, they look quite washed out at 1080p. You really need the extra pixels for these new games.
On my 13700K / 6800XT system, I play FF14 on a 32" 144Hz 4K display maxed out and get over 90FPS almost all the time. With the latest AAA games that would not be possible, but 3440 x 1440 should be doable with a 4070 or 6800XT or better as long as you manage settings a little bit. When 4K 60FPS and high settings isn't achievable, a 34" 3440 x 1440 display is the ticket. Playing games at anything less than that isn't worth my time.

1440p monitors seem to be sold more than any other resolution. Unless you're pretty poor (1080p) or very rich (4k). 1440 seems to be the best bang for your buck. 4k also needs really really good hardware otherwise... something isn't quick matching. 2080, 3000 series and slower 4000 series cards seem to work great with 1440 but not so with 4k. Otherwise you'd have to lower settings on 3aa games.

I have pretty much the same combo with a 24 1080p 240hz monitor while having a 2nd monitor 27 4k 60hz for some work stuff. If u need a bigger screen/ppi density then yeah go for it but besides that you will only lose fps average and won't future proof anything.

Exception would be the sweat-Lordes that mostly play super competitive FPS titles and only care about fast response times and highest frames. Zowie sells the buhgeezus out of 1080p 240-360hz monitors for years for $400-$600. 🙃

Alot of high refrsh rate phones still come with 1080p displays especially if they are oled Edit: I finished the video and to add to the samsung topic their galaxy S line is all 1080p except for the ultra models, those are 1440p 120hz amoled screens. Their tab s series tablets are some weird resolution between 1440p and 2160p.

No way. 1080p is more than enough. There is also a big difference between $120 and $240 1080p monitors. 1080p is also less upkeep in terms for performance. The only games that struggled with visuals in 1080p are probably red dead redemption and battlefield.

There is truth to what you are saying but there is also missed data. If 80% of Steam is 1080p, they are not the active majority but they are the direct line to growth. If you decide to do consumer friendly build guides, you need to add Monitor resolution to the build. If that is part of the upgrade, it is going to make a far more impacting decision on going down the rabbit hole. Unfortunately the 'tech youtube industry' is built around the upsell and KZbin is heading in the direction of CNN so this might be outdated commentary.

I'll switch to 1440p/4k when terrestrial broadcast switches, like how they did from NTSC/Pal standards to HDTV standards. That way you can know for sure that the tech is well mass adopted and the right time to switch. Well you have to switch anyway since they are not making 1080p content anymore like how TV stations and studios are not making ntsc/pal content anymore
