Let me fill you in as a developer. For Android, all I need is a computer with ADK installed. That includes the meta quest. I don't need the hardware in hand, any improvements can be made based on user feedback. With the Vision Pro, I would REQUIRE, an iPhone 12 onward, a Mac, a Vision Pro, AND a $99 a year Apple developer account. It is such a steep investment on my part. On top of that Apple takes a MASSIVE 30% cut of all sales. It is the only platform where I would go into debt to develop for with zero gurantee of ROI. The worst that happens on other platforms, is I make $0.

Don't necessarily think it was overhyped, but the overpriced definitely killed the hype lol. Watched Mutahar's review and he pretty much stated the exact same thing other creators who only uses it for like a week or two stated ( which is sad considering he took months with it and still came to the same conclusion lol). Hardware wise it has amazing tech, but majority of users probably wouldn't notice said tech too much with it's comparison to the Meta Quest 3 ( at least not on paper) which is what truly hurts Apple. The quest 3 has much more functionality out of the box at a way lower cost point. For a on the go office I could see this being worth it, but as Muta pointed out on his review if you want multiple windows you have to pay for such a feature. Having privacy in a Cafe or something I can see being great, but when you lose the point of functionality the price is no way justified. TLDR: hardware is great, but software is holding it back.

Also here's my problem with the Vision Pro right, the amount of money this thing costs, you could buy a Quest 3 and a desktop PC with a high enough spec that you could play whatever games you wanted in VR with minimal issues..... Now before the sheep scream "But Apple isn't for gamers, it's for productivity", performance is performance, just because you could build a PC for gaming doesn't mean it wouldn't also crush productivity tasks like video editing

When I started in Computers, I was using punchcards to load programs. The innovation in the last 50 years is incredible. VR will eventually be that way, but just like PCs right now, you can tweak speed, graphics, etc. but bottom line is its really the same product. Apple's product does have a few more features, but at its price point, its just not different enough.
@ChaseSchleich

Computers also started as huge machines and have shrunk down so small they can fit in your hand. VR is going to have to go through a similar evolution. It will go from current size, down to ski goggles, down to reading glasses, and eventually to contact lenses. It just might take 20 years to get there.
@Bloooo95
@Bloooo95 8 күн бұрын
@@ChaseSchleichIt will never get to the point of being a contact lens. They’ve been saying we’ll get it down to glasses in 20 years for more than 20 years now. We have miniatured silicon as far as we can. The idea we’ll magically shrink transistors on silicon even further for VR is baseless. That tech would already exist in smartphones if possible.

I almost fully agree with Matt. However, I don't think Apple was planning on selling a lot of these, I think that they were planning on selling the idea of the vision pro. I work in IT at the moment, and I've talked to two different apple reps for things unrelated to the vision pro, and they both mentioned that I should go and demo the thing because the tech is cool. They both even admitted that it's too expensive. I don't think they want people to buy the vision pro, they want people to buy the "idea" of the vision pro so when something cheaper comes out they can say "Oh it's got all the big things from the pro, but it's only 1000 bucks" or something.

One of the most popular apps, on the front page of the app Store, on the vision pro has only made its creator $300 total. there is no incentive for developers to make anything worthwhile on the platform. a $3,500 barrier to entry was such a stupid move on Apple's part. their only competition is a mostly gaming headset that's $500. agree with Matt on most points about this device. for that price you can buy an entire office setup that will run circles around the vision pro and will actually last you well into the future

Based on everything I was hearing when this came out, it seems like the Vision Pro: 1. Has groundbreaking tech in the hardware and software. 2. Is a mind-blowing experience the first time you try one. 3. Is a marvel of engineering. and 4. Is a product no one should buy. It always felt like something only for the hardest of hardcore Apple enthusiasts or bleeding edge tech early adopters. This is to AR/VR as the 1st gen iPhone was to smartphones, but worse. I hope they don't completely drop the idea because, with a lower price, a lighter, more comfortable build, and greater software support, I can see a future where the Vision [not Pro] or the Vision Pro 2 or whatever is a much more worthwhile and successful product.

@@chris7077 One thing is you can use it as a PC monitor. I moved my PC out of my room to a place super convenient right next to the internet access point to get an easy hardwired connection. I now have my PC everywhere I go. A lot of people immediately say a laptop can do that, but those people aren’t thinking VR. Laptop screens are tiny compared to what VP can do. I can have a giant screen of a game running while I have my ring doorbell up to see when food is coming and a KZbin video up teaching me something about the game. You can’t have that many screen up at a big enough size on a laptop. Also, a laptop requires you to be in a certain position which often leads to neck pain and bad posture. If you take a laptop into the bathroom, (unless you’re holding your laptop up at eye level the entire time), you’re going to be looking down at your lap which puts a ton of strain on your neck. The screen is also pretty far from you in this position. With VP you can keep your neck at a normal angle and be in any position like laying down or in a room with no table to rest anything on. Lastly, what’s faster when it comes to Microsoft excel? Typing, looking at the next cell you want to type into, reaching over to grab the mouse, going to where you were looking, then bringing your hand back to the keyboard to type, OR looking at the cell you want to type in, pinching your fingers while they’re still on the keyboard, and then typing? Now multiply that by the thousands of times you reach for a mouse in a year. It’s literally a quicker point A to point B with excel on VP, but because people are ignorant to thinking VR they don’t understand these concepts without being taught.
@MissingYouser
@MissingYouser Ай бұрын
@@chris7077 My comments are getting deleted for some reason. One thing you can do is take your Windows PC out of your room/office and put it right next to the internet access point since the VP can be used as a monitor. A lot of people immediately say, “But a laptop can do that!” What they don’t get is that a laptop screen is only 17 inches. On a VP you can make a ton of huge windows. You can have a full screen game running while another window has your video doorbell up to see if food is coming, while your messages are up, all while you’re watching a KZbin video about the game you’re playing. A laptop can’t fit all of that and more on the screen at a big enough size to be reasonably useable. Another thing is that you have to have a stand perfectly level for you with a laptop in every single room you go into. If I go to the bathroom with a laptop sitting on my lap, my neck is going to hurt from looking down. The VP can be used in any position because you can put the windows anywhere. That includes lying down and reclining back.

They really should have made AVP into an accessory instead of a standalone. Not only would it make it significantly lighter, but provide so much more use cases. Let it so people can plug it to their MacBooks or Macs; or make it Windows compatible. Not only would people be able to actually use it as a multi screen PC, but they’d have so many applications and processing power to utilize. And they wouldn’t have to have the thing die in a couple hours when the battery runs out.

Lack of content and price seems like the 2 biggest problems. Smartphones didn't explode in popularity until the "There's an app for that" marketing campaign started. It took a little time for apps for smartphones to come out, but when they did, there was suddenly a thousand of them, giving smartphones the big advantage over flip phones and people started making the switch. Smartphones also weren't $3500. The price needs to get to the $1000-$1500 range if it's ever going to sell decently well.
@devilmikey00
@devilmikey00 Ай бұрын
Also, most people do not buy a phone at full price. Most normal people get their phone through a carrier for a severely reduced up front cost and pay the rest off hidden away within a cellphone contract over the next 2-3 years. It's one of the things that makes me want to scream when the techtubers just ignore how normal people buy phones and pretend like everyone is going out to buy $1000-$1500 dollar phones every few years. Even if you were to put the Vision Pro on a 24 month plan it'd still be a $150+ monthly fee which is still a lot of money extra a month for an average joe. To ignore and pretend like the price of this thing wasn't the sole reason it completely flopped is to deny the reality we live in. No one can care about all shit they talked about in this video if literally no one but the top 5% of income earners can ever even lay their hands on one.

Yes, but smartphones weren’t a new category. They were just a more capable phone and owning a cellphone was standard by the time the iPhone was introduced. So it was easy for people to make the switch to a smartphone. That’s not the case for VR/AR. It’s a whole new category for most people.
@ChaseSchleich
@ChaseSchleich 8 күн бұрын
@@devilmikey00 Putting smartphone payments into the monthly bill was the only way to get the technology into everyone's hand. It was a rather genius move by the cell phone companies. VR is a blend between smartphones, PCs, and game consoles and so far it's been sold more like PC's and consoles are, all the money up front which greatly hurts how many people can get their hands on them. Apple needs to do the smartphone strategy if they want their headset to take off, but as I said, the price needs to come way down to the $1000-$1500 range and there needs to be a demand for the product which will only happen if apps are made for it, increasing is usability.

So essentially you get the VR headset and when docked and charging it’s an odd form factor Mac Mini. The hardware is there to do it and I think more people in the market for a Mac would pay the extra money to use as their main system plus the novelty factor of VR. I know I’d be tempted to ditch my current Mac Mini to do that because then I feel like I’m still getting useful value out of the product plus supporting and experiencing the next evolution of computing.

I wouldn’t buy it for even $1000. Why? Because if you want to use it as a productivity device it’s not standalone, you still need a Mac. And even then with all its capabilities, you can only mirror one display. You also can’t game on it properly bc of the lack of VR controllers except for simple swipe games. Also, it’d just be uncomfortable to use for long periods of time. I already don’t like having ANY headset on, let alone one that’s the heaviest on the market. I’m already seeing people try to get rid of it for 1800-2000 on eBay. AFTER A MONTH

Meta just announced their HorizonOS. It's going to essentially be Windows but for VR/AR. We're going to be getting light, productivity-focused headsets that you can just quickly put on and do work in. This kills the Vision Pro. ....is what I say as someone who has never used a Mac and had always used Android. Apple will find a way. There will be a use case for the Vision Pro just as there is for the Mac. I'm not counting Apple out just yet.

As VP user, I thoroughly enjoy using it mainly for watching content, including KZbin and Netflix. But all the derision feels an awful lot like people telling us that electric vehicles are not practical, when we have been driving one for years… We are neither rich nor content creators, and literally saved up for eight months to buy what literally turned out to be a revolutionary iOS/ iPadOS experience… Honestly feel like the guy with the backward cap is not very forward thinking, and speaks for a lot of people who lack discretionary income. It is easy to mock people who own Yachts when you don’t own one, same principle… Definitely VP has nearly unlimited potential… 🤔

It's literally got same life as Quest pro. Overpriced, overhyped and everyone forgot that it exists. And i would argue that Quest pro was more useful and now it's only used to do PCVR and Quest 3 is better in most ways and cost less. It might stay in it's niche, like iPad does now.

I conly only really see this becoming longterm successful for Apple if either a small group of people find a hand-full of unique solutions that only this would improve for an audience that could expand at a lesser price-point, or a unique solution for a small group of people who this and only this would solve have the income and awareness to adopt it at a higher price-point. This can't be successful in it's current shape because the incentive for adopting it isn't there no matter how good it is.

The Apple Vision is a closed system that can't be used for more then a few things. Little app support and no real game support. This is a demo product not a product line. No company is wasting money developing apps for a system used by 10 people. The best hardware is completely dead without good software.

I saw no use for this device and I was right, but a company may have different approach. It is about patents and license fees etc. and not only about the sales itself, if this would take off (which it wont anyway) then it would be important to have a portfolio of patents. Other than that, it is not interesting, it is uncomfortable and a nieche product for a nieche usecase.

If apple would actually embrace gaming they could turn these into some really nice VR gaming headsets, but I do not expect that to happen. The main actual use for the current Vision pro is as an external display for the mac, but with the high price, supporting for only one one display, limited battery life, and the comfort issues, it is just not very good even for that. Just make the thing plug where it can plug into the mac and get power and display from it through a cable. This stupid obsession apple has with wireless just caused more issues with this thing and it still has a wire going to the battery pack anyway. Regardless I kind of expect apple to figure it out eventually at least to some degree, but it will be several years away and this will be a fairly niche product. At least until they can get it compacted down into something like sunglasses and that is many many years away. No one should buy the current vision pro and probably not even the next gen or 2. Perhaps if apple manages to get the next gen to support more higher res displays and improve the battery life and comfort it might be decent for people who need to work while traveling a lot, but in it's current state it seems pretty silly even for that.

Even as someone who hates apple with a passion, i can agree from a technical perspective its an amazing piece of hardware. But as an apple hater it has ALL the red flags every apple device has for me, which is the ecosystem lock in. If i wanted a productivity device id still get a meta quest 3 over an apple vision pro its cheaper, has physical controllers plus hand tracking good passthrou good spatial lock. If the apple vision would be more around 1000 bucks with controllers it would be a good deal but 3500 for only a headset. No just no. Thats like 2 months salery for something that just does not have a good usecase yet.
