I live in a smaller town and had never smelled anyone wearing it and now that I have it when I wear it out and about I get countless compliments. Is it overhyped? That is just the thing. I live in a relatively bigger town in Germany and even stuff like Sauvage I hardly smell. Pretty much only at the gym. So even if it's a fragrance that 95% of 'fragrance people' own and use, nevertheless that means that you belong to like 1% of the population that smells like this 😂 We all love individuality when it comes to our perfumes, but don't stress is. No matter what it is, most people will smell it the first time on YOU

So refreshing hearing you speak about fragrances. Some people are in a perpetual state of being online even fragrances like Creed Aventus most people think it’s too expensive for what it is or don’t even know what it is (and I live in London where people have high incomes). Yet, people online will say everyone smells like Creed Aventus. No one knows about the clones / similar fragrances like CDNIM, Nishane Hacivat, Cedrat Boise or Afnan NOI etc unless you’re really into fragrances. Most people genuinely don’t care about fragrances but wear them because they get them as Christmas or birthday presents.

Your logic is very on point. I got samples of a few scents straight from MFK website including BR540 EDP and Extrait. Great prices and comfort that it’s official. Tried the EDP for the second time today just one spray lasted all day and it was beast mode on me surprisingly. I’m a guy and with my chemistry the EDP was both very woody and sweet. Addictive. I placed an order for a travel 10ml today. My collection is getting deeper so often times I opt for samples or travel sizes and I get a whole lot of wears from them. I also like the small bottles because I can take them out with me and respray! Imagine having niche weapons at your disposal right in your pocket! Travel size is the way.

Right? I honestly don't smell BR540 on that many people. I vividly remember smelling (and being borderline suffocated by) Viva La Juicy literally everywhere in the 2010s though. BR540 is nowhere near that level of popularity based on my experience. Heck, I smell Black Opium a lot more often when I go out in public.

I just found out about BR540 within this past 2 months thanks to an oil company that has a fragrance inspired by BR540 called “Sweet Luxury”, . I was intrigued by the smell of it and wanted to know how close it was to the original. I then ordered a sample of it online and….didn’t fall in love at first spray. But then something hit me! I kept wanting to smell it! Now I’m in love! I have 2 of the 11ml travel sizes on the way and plan on ordering the 2.4oz bottle for Christmas!

Just got the 1.2 oz bottle, just so I could try it, I wanted to know what it smelt like, because I work in retail and wondered if I’ve smelt it before, maybe; but not so often. It is a lot for what I make, but also wanted to just know. Super curious person by nature. But it’s the kinda cologne I’d wear at work for a good day, or a wedding or something. It’s definitely a work of art with all the pre-tones and post tones senses it’s a nice one.

I purchased the EDP and it smells like cotton candy. I never received a compliment on the Baccarat EDP - I purchased the Arianna Grandes Cloud that smells very similar, approx $55. I received compliments on Arriana Grandes CLOUD which can be found in most department stores.

Before sampling the real deal I bought Lattafa - Ana Abiyedh Rouge, but I sold it after a month of wearing it. Then later I got samples of these so called inspirations - Cloud, Instant Crush, Sensual Instinct, Apres L’amour. Cloud seemed pushing more feminine. Istant Crush is so strong like a hair spray to my nose and Apres L’amour even crazier. Sensual Instinct smelled for just a second like BR540 and then like sour wine. And then I got samples of the real BR540 and also the extrait. It is funny how I just ordered Ana Abiyedh Rouge again to compare it to the original. I feel like it is a process to go through to understand what is worth for me - the original, the inspiration, the clone or just let others use it . 😂😂

Just wondering if anyone has experienced a bad batch/reformulated version of the Baccarat Rouge. A lot of us in Australia who have bought BR from Mecca (Sephora equivalent), experienced a bad alcohol like smell, with no staying power whatsoever. I personally own the older version (bought in 2021), and the smell was so different from the new one. The old batch smells divine and last pretty long, with good projection. Apparently so many people have returned the perfume back to the store and get refunded. So I’m not sure whether this problem only happens in Australia or worldwide ☹️

Oakcha is an "inspired by" house that has the absolute best dupe of it I've ever smelled. It's called Sweven. Oakcha is actually a fantastic house all around. I own both and when I wear Sweven absolutely everyone thinks I'm wearing BR540. The longevity and projection are also amazing.

Baccarat Rouge 540 has insane longevity. And there is more to the scent than cotton candy (I dislike that part). It has this chemical aspect to it, which I think is awesome. A bit like Another 13.

tldr: Baccarat Rouge 540 is "THAT BITCH" 😆 Ever since I started reading and watching videos about fragrances couple months ago, obviously Baccarat Rouge 540 has come up a lot, finally got to sample it last week (1-2 sprays on MFK paper tester) and OMG it projects so much and lasts so long!! I put the paper tester in one corner of my room, and I can smell it at least half way across the room DAYS later. It was put next to my wallet in my bag, just on my way home, and I could catch the scent on my wallet DAYS after as well. I usually don't really like sweet, candy-like scents, (some descriptions of BR540 don't include sweet, but like it's said here, there's a major cotton candy/toffee note) but it did grow on me, and there's a somewhat addicting quality to it, and very memorable. Now, I'm not considering buying it, cuz I feel it's too expensive (esp now that it's a normal product, and not a commemorative exclusive release) and it's not really my style, but I totally get the hype after experiencing its performance. Though I do think it should be applied with caution, since it's so projecting and strong, and I've heard it described as "migraine inducing" 😅 Need to test the extrait next time!

My take? If someone loves it THAT much and they have the disposable income/not getting themselves into debt, then I'd say it's worth it. For me, personally, though: There are so many spot-on and good quality imitations at this point to where I personally don't feel the need to spend that money on the real thing. Recently I've been really digging the Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 68 (and the matching body care), and it lasts forever on me. I don't feel like I'm missing out on BR540, personally. If I'm going to spend an extravagant amount of money on a perfume, then it's going to be for Parfums de Marly's Delina (the OG one), as I've yet to find a good dupe for it.
