Just bought a 2015 M6 coupe ,59000 miles. I live in NC bought the car online in California. Had a certified BMW mechanic check EVERYTHING out before I bought it. Compression, suspension and such. Cameback all good. Paid $33,000 including having it shipped out here. Just got it today. SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!

I think the m6 coupe is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. What about this? When I go to bmw warranty on a 2015 m6 it says a 7 year or 70k mile warranty is a little over 4k dollars. I would have to look into exactly what this entails and the details but if that’s the case why couldn’t I just buy a 45k m6 and buy the warranty on top of it and forget about it. Have you ever looked into warranty’s or does the whole fix it look after it yourself thing just make more sense to you?
@EthanYorke
@EthanYorke Жыл бұрын
I personally don’t like warranties because then you have to be selective with what modifications you add to the car. If you don’t want a tune or make the car fairly loud, that warranty sounds like an excellent deal! You will definitely spend more than $4,000 on repairs over 7 years, lol

Check my “how broken is an 80,000 mile M6” video, I go over most of it! The big items are rods, rod bearings, and a nice clutch if you want to run 700 or more horsepower! Diff braces and axles if you want to go over 800. 2014’s typically need injector replacement as well

Like ur videos bro. I recently bought a 2016 m5 competition. Only reason I bought it is because it was a 2 owner car. And under the second owner the engine developed a bottom end knock. Most likely it bent a rod. So bmw replaced the engine under warranty since car was stock. So the car when I bought it had 58k miles on it engine was replaced at 33k miles. That was the selling point for me. Cuz the s63 it’s now if ur engine will blow by bending a rod or spinning a rod bearing it’s when. The thing your not mentioning and that’s a bigger issue then rod bearings wearing out which was a bigger issue on the e60 m5 and e90 m3 The bigger issue on the s63 is rods bending due to the massive amounts of low end tq. Second biggest issue is injector failure they get stuck open and dump fuel and thin out oil and metal in natal contact happens and boom. But I got my 2016 m5 58k miles only mod was kw has suspension and spacers. With basically a 27k mile engine. For 39k. That’s a steal. Full leather interior loaded
@EthanYorke
@EthanYorke Жыл бұрын
That’s a fair point, although I’m almost certain the injector issue was addressed for 2015 and newer S63 cars. I’ve heard a few stories of people bending rods, but most of them are highly tuned pushing big power, often racing as well. Meanwhile, there are forum posts all over the place about even stock S63TU’s spinning rod bearings. Every car is different, the point is to understand your car’s weaknesses and do what you can do prevent issues from happening before they happen 😃 Enjoy your car!!! Sounds like you got a great deal

@@EthanYorke yes the 2015 2016 model year they didn’t upgrade the injectors from EU5to EU6 I believe. But even with that I am in a Instagram group chat with a load of MFMC owners, and they even talk about the updated injectors still failing. And even stock cars bens rods. But I agree with you. Spun rod bearings is definitely a big concern. I run 5 W-40 oil and I do oil changes every 2000 miles. It’s cheap preventative maintenance to always have fresh oil to lubricate the bearings properly.
@EthanYorke
@EthanYorke Жыл бұрын
@BulletsGarage I’m currently doing my oil changes every 4,000 miles, sending off a sample every time I do it. So far everything has appeared well, the engine looked incredibly clean when I got the car inspected, I suspect my engine may have been replaced as well at some point considering the car has 75,000 miles

These cars have oil consumption issues, aka they burn off oil in between oil changes. The longer you go between oil changes, the less oil you’re leaving in the engine which can lead to metal on metal contact: the leading cause of catastrophic engine failure

All the same logic applies to the convertible, except you'll need to budget another $2,000 - $3,000 to fix the soft top when it stops working. There is another KZbinr out there somewhere who had that issue and documented the cost and process pretty extensively. If that extra amount, on top of what may be needed for preventative maintenance like rods and rod bearings, isn't an issue for you, I say go for it! It’s generally fuel injectors sticking open dumping too much fuel into the cylinder washing out the oil that kills the rod bearings and writes these engines off, not low oil or worn bearings. In fact the car tells you when the oil is low so that is not an issue. You might want to swap your injectors out for new ones. But that won’t 100% guarantee that will prevent it…. Saying all this doom and gloom, I have a F10 M5 and I love it! Wouldn’t change it for anything
@EthanYorke
@EthanYorke 2 ай бұрын
My understanding was that the fuel injector issue was a 2014 and older issue mostly, but that newer models still had rod bearing issues thanks to thick oil recommendations from BMW alongside their recommended oil change interval of 10,000 miles. Nevertheless, definitely going to swap out injectors at some point after rods and rod bearings get upgraded

@EthanYorke
@EthanYorke Жыл бұрын
It’s definitely not an F80 or an M2. It very much prefers the freeway, but it’s not un driveable on back roads as long as they aren’t extremely tight. The weight balance is excellent making it extremely easy to correct when it steps out, but it’s got a lot of low end torque so you’ll need to be really careful on throttle. In my opinion, the car is the most entertaining and shocking above 100mph on a straight. The way the power never stops pulling is unreal

Warranties can honestly be hit or miss. Most people don’t realize that warranty companies, like insurance companies, are going to do everything they can to deny a claim which means getting work done isn’t always straight forward. Look at what is going on with Toyota rn. They’re denying factory warranties because the ECU shows cars going over 100 mph “at some point”. For vehicles that literally burnt to the ground going freeway speeds. In my opinion, if you’re choosing between a $5,000 - $6,000 warranty or no warranty, I’d choose no warranty for something like an M6 and spend the money on preventative maintenance. You get to support a small business, fix bad OEM parts with stronger aftermarket ones, and probably give yourself a better chance of keeping the car out of the shop :) This also gives you freedom to modify your car as you’d please, instead of only doing what won’t void your warranty.

Massive, MASSIVE wealth killer. Saying there’s not a significant difference between BMWs and Japanese car maintenance is laughable. So a Corolla’s repairs are mostly as reliable/expensive as an M6?! Yes, BMW is expensive. I don’t think anyone sensible should argue against that. The question is: is buying one a bad idea? Is it not worth it? But to say BMW and Japanese car maintenance are similar due to labor is nuts! Source: owned 5 Benzs, 1 Dodge, and 1 Lexus

Comparing a Corolla to an M6 is insanely silly, cmon. I thought I was pretty clearly talking about enthusiast cars. My point was that all these JDM kids will go buy themselves an 86, a Type R, etc because “reliability”, then still end up having to pay thousands of dollars to fix things. The new 86’s literally can’t take turns hard without exploding, the last gen 86 is far from being immune to issues, the Civic Type R has cooling issues among other things. Any clutch replacement is going to push $1,500 - $2,000 for any JDM car, and the newer it is the more expensive it is going to be. My buddy has an S2000, I adore that car but even those can have valve issues that require pulling the engine apart. There is virtually not a single car on the planet that you can drive as hard as you want and never have an issue, and the ones that can are going to be specific down to a VIN not to an entire make and model. Sure, a BMW is going to cost more to service. However, at least the issues with BMW’s depreciate their values to favorable prices (for the most part), whereas JDM cars like Subarus hold their value like crazy despite arguably being more unreliable. Actually, now that I mention Subaru, I’ll confidently say that owning a 2016+ WRX STi is more expensive than owning my M6, not even equal. Those cars are piles are garbage but somehow is seen as a better financial decision than buying an equal priced BMW M car that outperforms it in every way and doesn’t have an engine made of glass 😂

If you can handle roughly an additional $500 a month on top of your monthly payment for the car throughout the year for service/repair, go for it. I also drive mine a lot though so that number will be different for everyone, I’ve done about 10,000 miles so far and have paid ~$7,000 for 3 oil changes, rear rotors and pads, a transmission leak, and some fuel evap issue. With just the oil changes and brakes, I’d be at about $3,500. Ultimately it’s just a matter of what you’re comfortable with, an M8 is going to run you $2,000+ a month in payment and, in my opinion, is uglier in every way to the M8 so the M6 is a good deal to me, even with its high cost of ownership.

Heard the first 2 and it’s 🧢. BMW’s have electrical issues and tend to always have little things break REGARDLESS of how you care for them. And, because they are German those little things are expensive and the way the vehicles are engineered you need a “good” mechanic.
@EthanYorke

I love when people call cap but put absolutely zero effort in to prove their point. I currently own 3 BMWs and have had 2 others before this, 3 over 100,000 miles, and am notorious for not taking care of my things. Despite this, none of them have/had any electrical issues at all. You’re literally just blabbing talking points you most likely heard from the 9th owner of an unserviced 7 series that doesn’t understand how their “$10,000 car” can be so problematic. My E36 is just as simple and straightforward to work on as my old Mazda/Mazdaspeed Protégé’s, my wagon is just as easy to work on as my old Focus ST. BMWs, like literally any other car except a Subaru product, run fine and for quite some time without issue if taken care of properly. Their reputation of unreliability has way more to do with irresponsible owners than actual poor design

Again, you’ve done 0 to prove they’re expensive. Expensive new? Well, duh. They’re luxury sports cars. Expensive used? That’s not really true as pretty much anything other than M cars depreciate rapidly as they approach 100,000 miles. Expensive to maintain? A used CVT for a 10th Gen Civic costs as much as a used DCT for my M6, replacing an engine in a WRX STI would cost you more than replacing the engine in my M6. So where is your point exactly? Or are you really just that bitter about having an inferior vehicle that isn’t saving you much money?

Bro! Stop the cap bro. I own a Porsche 911 c4S and I went through 6 BMWs. My 911 is way more reliable and cost me way less to service and maintain than my BMWs. Also my full coverage insurance with hagerty is $125 month for a car that’s way more valuable than most BMWs. Every single 911 is way more reliable than any M6….bore scoring and IMS issues were less than 5 percent of all 2000-2005 911’s….you also showed a Porsche 911 turbo calling it unreliable? 😂😂. That car has a “metzger” engine which is bulletproof!…..please do your research before posting. Great content otherwise 🤙

Unreliable probably wasn’t the right word. My experience with Porsche, as someone who hasn’t owned one, has been that the price to get in is much higher than most BMW’s and parts prices seem astronomical in comparison. That last point is mostly bias towards aftermarket parts though, to be fair. To your credit, Porsche’s are probably more reliable, on average, than BMW’s, although I still hold my breath on that simply because the mileage expectations for the two brands are very different. 50k miles can be considered high miles for a 911 whereas 50k is low to medium miles for most BMW models including M’s. I’m making assumptions here, but something tells me things like oil leaks and coolant leaks on a 70,000 mile 911 is “to be expected” because that is considered high mileage whereas an equivalent BMW model gets called unreliable for it. Again, I’ve never owned a Porsche so I could be way off base here. On the insurance note, I’ve never had much issue with my M’s. My F80 M3 was $110 (was on my parent’s policy at the time) per month and my M6, 328D, and E36 are $340 per month total on my own policy (25 years old). I’ve never gotten a quote for a Porsche so I don’t have much to add there. You’re 100% correct that I should have done more research, I think I was just eager to film a video. I agree that all 911’s are reliable than both models of the M6, but 911’s are obviously not immune from their own costly issues. I came off more antagonistic than I needed to in the video, but all I was trying to say is that the value a lot of the BMW M cars offer, even with their issues, is very high. If I spend $20,000 maintaining my M6 (that would be almost every major issue occurring) over my ownership, I will have spent $65,000 on the car in total. Maybe I’m bias, but that still needs like a pretty insane bargain for a 600+ horsepower GT car in a pretty limited colorway with an interior that, to me, feels like it’s on par with a Bentley. If you asked me if I’d rather have my M6 knowing it would have $20k worth of problems or a problem free example of whatever 911 $65k would buy me, I’d pick the M6. What year is the 911? How many miles? I appreciate the feedback! I’m glad you’re enjoying the Porsche life 😎

You’re telling OP to stop the cap and then say Porsches are cheaper to maintain and service than BMWs. I own a 992 GTS and I also own a G 82M4C. In the past I’ve owned an E92 M3, B7 RS4 a 991.2 Carrera S and F82 M4 and a 718 Cayman T. So I have a pretty good idea on what the maintenance costs are for all of those vehicles and Porsche is definitely more expensive than BMW. The labor cost and parts are more expensive, but they are well built cars and if you maintain them, all of them, you’ll find you get good results. Just because you’ve owned a 997 C4 S and some older BMW‘s does not make you an expert anymore than it does mean and these kind of blanket statements is what spreads this kind of bullshit across the inter webs… it all comes down to doing your research. Make sure you get an inspection before purchasing a used BMW or PPI for a used Porsche and then maintain them well, it’s not rocket science. People are just lazy about maintaining their cars or do poor research prior to buying a used one.

@@Peanutdenver lmfao!! You should read more and do your own research. I commented about the part where he used the picture of a 997 turbo and called Porsche unreliable!. Since you are such an expert because “you owned” all these cars and know so much! You should know that a 997 turbo has a metzger engine which is bullet proof and is the most reliable 911 without fail so that s why i wrote “ do your research” before posting!!. Also in “MY” opinion based on owning bmws and still a bmw owner and fan that’s why I was watching his video about the M6 because I was thinking of buying one and I now own one since watching his video….i still know that my Porsche is cheaper to maintain than any bmw I have owned and I am yet to have a opinion on the M6 . I made my comment based on my experience! I said stop the cap because he was wrong about posting the metzger which he didn’t even know about the reliability of that car.
