I certainly needed one yesterday! New car, and the dealership had slapped "lip gloss" on the tyres pre-collection. I'm not a fan of tyres that look like they've got dressing on, so tried my usual Rebound, but even after 2 applications and scrubs with my Detail Factory brush, when the surface started to dry, I could see it had little effect. Next up was Surfex-HD which seemed to help but trying to clean the brush led me to try citrus. Shiny Garage Citrus Oil (diluted) got the brush clean so I gave the tyres 2 rounds, which has helped, but it looks like a few more will be needed.

Yeah I am with you, there are times that it is absolutely needed, I think we saw that in this test here, especially when I swapped the ReTyre and Först side over. Is it needed all the time? No. Are there occasions where it really helps? Absolutely yes. I am going to give Surfex a go at 1:3 or something, and then maybe even neat, just to demo it and see for myself - if I run out of ReTyre I know I've always got loads of Surfex, so could that do the job?

So many people recommend it and I suspect you're absolutely right. I was just putting stuff together in a Slim's order (who don't stock AG) and James really recommended it when I was at Waxstock, hence that product choice. Now if Retyre is this good, and Rebound is better....it shows how effective Rebound is.

It's such a strong product to have available I think. I doubt you'd ever need it on a frequently cleaned car, but doing cars professionally that come in as a right state, and you need to get the results quickly and efficiently, I'd reach for it for sure. The cost of the product would be offset by the time saves I suspect - 2 hits with 2mins dwell was enough on that van tyre for example.

Great video & pretty much shows that dedicated rubber cleaners are better for that specific use (no surprise). However for budget options Surfex 1:4 is the perfect ratio for cleaning alloys & tyres imo. Even 4% PIR autofoam does a good job for arches, alloys & tyres when agitated & can be incorporated into the pre-washing stage when foaming. Sometimes a 'good enough' job is all that's required 👍
@SuperchargedLlama

Thanks Brian - I am going to do a follow up video which does Surfex against Retyre to see the difference, I might go 1:3 is what I was thinking, as that's really strong! I could do that and green start against Retyre, to show that Greenstar isn't as concentrated.

Nice content Adrian, I do love a good comparison video. On the whole, i use surfex at 1:10, but then im cleaning every 2-3 weeks and its also topped with garage therapy wheel shampoo and this is enough, for the standard i want. I do occasionally break out the AG Rebound, which I reallly like too. I've seen a few videos with retyre and have always wanted to try it and at £12 a litre, it may be worth a go. Thanks for uploading this one, all the best 👍. Lee.

I have a question for you, based on what you've said there: does GT foam do a decent job on tyres? I need to do a V1 Vs V2 test, which will also incorporate the IK Vs Marolex foamer I think.
@decker0373
@decker0373 10 ай бұрын
@SuperchargedLlama I don't have V2, only V1 and for me the combination of surfex and wheel shampoo is fine. Whether it meets the exacting requirements of someone at your level is a different question. It's also worth noting that my tyres have GT Tyre Serum on each wash too, I do think that product acts as a barrier to dirt, I swear that helps. Lee.

Bilt Hamber Surfex HD is far far FAR stronger than all clean, but it had it at 1:10 for this test as that's generally as strong as I use it. However, I've got to test at stronger dilutions because I reckon it's got the potential to dig really deep.

For my tyres, I use up general products I've bought (Spritzer, GT Decon, Polar wash etc) but not liked compared to my go to ones so have done similar tests to the one you have just done but have always found Rebound to be the one I use. For maintenance washes I use Surfex at 1:10 but not too keen as I just like the result form Rebound so find myself using it more often than not. I live in countryside so simple tyre maintenance washes are few and far between 🙂 Thank you for doing these reviews as, while I'm the type who sticks with a product if it does what I need, I do like to see what else is going on, just in case!
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 9 ай бұрын
You're absolutely welcome and thank you for watching the video! You've made a really good point in your comment - Rebound does seem to be often referred to as "the best", and I think the ADBL one is well regarded too, but that just goes to to show that there are such variances within different product areas too. I was originally thinking of doing a tyre cleaner group test but I got some opinions from a few people to find that most of them had generally thought that it didn't matter too much, all of them were good. So that's why I went with the "do you need a dedicated one, or can you use a different product instead". I am definitely going to try Surfex at a stronger dilution though, because I reckon that's a really useful yardstick.

Very interesting, especially when you'd cleaned tyres then went over with Retyre. Powerful stuff. Many thanks. I have an idea for you. Up the Surfex concentration, dilute ReTyre and compare both effectiveness and price. Retyre is too expensive for me to justify, but if it could be diluted 1:4 and still be effective for weekly washes, well now Surfex could be substituted occasionally. And still have the ready to use bottle for family tyres
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 10 ай бұрын
I see where you're going there. I reckon the potentially more compelling one will be "how strong do you need to use Surfex at to be as good as ReTyre". Like, accepting that Retyre is RTU, what dilutable product can get near to it. AutoFoam is pretty amazing when used neat, based on what it does to the ground when I split a bit 😂

@@SuperchargedLlamayour video got me thinking about how some products turn the foam white, but then try another one and more dirt gets pulled out. So I bought Turtle Wax Hyper foam. Well blow me! My 'well maintained' wheels were filthy!!! And that probably explains why my GT tyre serum results never matched the hype. Anyway, thank you for the inspiration. And that TW cleaner is superb. In return, here's a gem. Add Autoglanz foam booster to a ceramic shampoo and the results are spectacular. No more suds dying after 30 seconds. Thanks again

I've compared Forst to Adam's Wheel and Tire Cleaner and the Adam's is stronger, even on tires. The Adam's is one of the strongest consumer products out there though and really does damage to sealants, pH of 13 so some care required. Forst is a great product though and more versatile.
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 10 ай бұрын
That sounds very much like the Adam's performs similarly to the ADBL offering. I think you've made a really good point here in the sense that some of these products are SO strong.
@VideoCanuk
@VideoCanuk 10 ай бұрын
Appreciate the time you've put into this comparison but frankly I'm struggling with your methodology to determine the best product. Bottom line for me would be how much product was needed and how much time and effort was required to get the tire clean. Assuming effort to clean was relatively the same then would it not come down to the quantity of product used and its cost per tire as compared to the others ?
@SuperchargedLlama
@SuperchargedLlama 10 ай бұрын
That is a fantastic point to make, I had really thought about reviewers bias outside of having a preferred product; I clearly do though as I don't care too much about the cost, just the results. Now I say that because of something else. On my lower packages I only use whatever wheel cleaner I have, I might do two hits, but tbh I usually just do one. When I'm up at the Enhancement level packages then I want to use the product that'll get me the best result. It looks like Retyre with two hits at 2mins dwell got the out and out best, but Först was so close that I'd personally choose that I think, so I can carry one product to do many many jobs. Obviously Först isn't cheap either, I haven't found a dilutable product that does that job.

Use GT Tyre Serum and tbh the tyres don't seem to hang on to any dirt. i only use a hogs hair brush very lightly on them with GT Wheel shampoo and there doesn't seem to be any browning at all off the tyres. Good question that one. I'd say that Vb is much more like Garage Therapy Decon Wash, it's a proper, caustic shampoo that can clean many things very well, but it's definitely got a lot more foam stabilisers in it etc so it can be a shampoo too. It's designed for really grimey cleans, can be used as a snow foam and shampoo etc too, where as Greenstar struggles for that.
