I am with you in the no tip when standing but with my own personal caveats. Example I brought in a party of 9 to an ice cream shop and the guys was just helpful and patient with all of the indecision so I tipped. If i see someone who is running a tight game for n the middle of chaos with a great attitude I am going to tip. It brings such a smile to their faces ❤

My immigrant father always told me growing up that I will be expected to take care of my parents when they get old. They are now centi-millionaires so I am hoping that expectation has fallen off 😅. My American mother has never expressed the sentiment that I will need to care for them. It is definitely a culturally dependant mindset.

For the dinner situation, I’ve had a similar experience. Not with family, but with friends. I don’t drink, so my bill is usually much lower than most in the group if you itemize per person. With most of my friends, we just take turns paying, but if I’m in a larger group and close with everyone, I have a few strategies. If I’m close with the group, I just tell them I’ll pay for what I’m having because I budget. But that’s because I’m close with them. For those I’m not as close with or if it’s awkward, sometimes I’ll excuse myself early before the check comes (right after we eat) with an excuse and just say, “Here, this should cover my amount with a tip.” Or, if I’ve eaten with them before, I’ll have an excuse prepared and say to the group “I’ll probably have to leave early because of X, so I’ll need a separate check.” And then I’ll ask the server “Can you please bring my check with the food so I can pay right away?” Unfortunately, it does mean I leave these dinners early, but I don’t mind getting out a little early and not lingering.

Ok my mom raised six kids when dad decided he really wasn’t into this parenting thing after all and took off. We lived way under the poverty line. Mom had nothing for herself. I mean zero. What was she going to put into her retirement? Dust? Every nickel went to keeping a roof over our heads. We all eventually climbed out and made something of ourselves. Of course we are now going to make sure she’s taking care of. George you don’t know everyone’s story.

Taxation without Representation, A thought here. How can the government tax people receiving income that are working and under the legal voting age? You would think that this would be a no brainier. How do We the People allow this? Our founding fathers did not, so why do our teenage children? Someone in power needs to address this injustice. I can not be the only one to point out the hypocrisy.

The story behind the star spangled banner is absolutely awe-inspiring, beautiful and heart wrenching. If you don't know it, look it up (George not knowing about the ramparts made me think of this). Also, understanding its history just elucidates how far gone our education system is, when people kneel during it in the name of oppression/repression. In the average CAFR, Sales taxes are about 30% of the average city's income. Services are about 65%. And Property Taxes are about 1-5% of the income. You could abolish property taxes and it wouldn't hurt anything. People should not have to pay taxes on their property. If you pay taxes on something you don't truly own it.

Hey George and Rachel, love your show! Just an fyi, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s birthday (Mexico’s Independence Day)! Cinco de Mayo commemorates the 1862 Battle of Puebla which is a state in Mexico. It is not a national holiday in Mexico. Honestly it’s probably more celebrated by Americans in America than in Mexico itself. Mexico’s birthday, or Independence Day, is September 16. 😁

@@kds0638 That is correct, you wouldn't say "I are going." But that is the verb you are changing. George was correcting her on the subject of the sentence. "Me and Winston" vs. "Winston and I" is the subject. That is where you can get rid of Winston (worry Winston!) to figure out if you should use me or I. Another example that people almost always get wrong is if she said "the waiter brought water to Winston and me." Me is correct here. Get rid of Winston and "the waiter brought water to me." He will never bring it to "Winston and I." I'm great fun at parties! Thanks dad!

I had the privilege of singing the National Anthem several times for baseball games. I was with a group. We did it twice at Three Rivers Stadium and twice at PNC Park (I think - it was awhile ago), and once for a Scrappers minor league game in Youngstown, OH. So a story of the experience of singing at Three Rivers, for those who are interested: We went to audition in February (a snippet of our audition was on the evening news - our five seconds of fame, lol). The sound setup there was a nightmare - worst singing experiences I've ever had. They had two microphones that four of us shared. Those microphones had literally ONE sweet spot: right at the center and within a few inches. If you moved away from that spot, your voice cut out completely, so picture four of us on two microphones trying to make this work. In addition, the sound came out of the speakers a FULL SECOND LATER! This messed with several people who were auditioning. They sang slower and slower, like they were waiting for the sound to catch up! Thankfully, when they built PNC park, they didn't use that sound system anymore!

If government school was GOOD, my children would be there. What government school really is, like everything government touches, is “too big to fail”. Problems? Children graduate illiterate? Just dump more money into the system. Look at the national report card. Things are not going well.

It absolutely can't be called that ...by the bread winner but as a stay at home mama who was not helping our financial situation we went on a 3 year journey to stop being Dave Ramsey" ish" we met with a local Ramsey coach who expressed that how we talk to each other about money was our issue and boy was it and our motives (spender and saver, completely opposite personalities). I found Rachel and read every book and consumed everything you put out and it changed my mindset! I had listened to Dave but he was "mean" to me 🤣 Now I get it. Now we're a team. Now we're millionaires and I'm part of the solution and not the problem. So we call it an allowance for a lack of better terms but I don't care anymore! Perspective! Thanks For helping me guys! My sister and I also both put about 75K of our own money into our home purchases. MY sister and I also had and continue to have great credit scores. Sometimes a good business plan just requires some vote of confidence from family when it’s earned in the form of co-signing. I do think co-signing for a car or other depreciating asset is a bad idea.

The best line for a person that asks you to co-sign for a loan is I don’t believe in debt and I don’t want to put you in a bad situation by co-signing for a loan that way you get to say no for the best interest of the person trying to borrow money.

$176 billion in student loans have been forgiven so far. I am not sure why you say it hasn't happened. The Supreme Court turned down the original amount the administration wanted. They have been able to get smaller amounts approved, and they are not done yet.

The court decision was just to say the executive branch was exceeding its powers, but the legislature could always pass a bill paying for loan forgiveness

I agree with Rachel about property tax. As long as you own it you have no option to pay or it will turn into debt. It could be bare land that no one lives on, but it's still due. I feel it produces the same slave mentality as debt. It's different than income tax, utilities and other bills. You do have the option to cancel it or if you don't earn income there isn't a tax due for just being alive.

Long time listener, first time commenter, but Rachel 😭😭 love the enthusiasm, but Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day 😅 it’s September 16th. There’s a lot of history there though so it is a common misconception so I don’t blame you at all hehe much love 🤍🤍
