Without Crucible, what steels could replace S30 and S35? VG10, D2, N690, 14c28n seems lower, more budget tier. M390 and CTS204p looks to me like more expensive higher tier. Maybe return of CTS XHP that Cold Steel used?

@@Sicarius888 Cold steel and other makers are still using CTS XHP. S30, 35, 45 can be replaced by Nilox, Vanax, and N690. For CruWear good subs are Nitro-V and Z-Wear. CPM 154 = RWL 34, S20V = M390, and brand new Bohler S390 is going to fall between S90V and S110… too many options to recount. Prices are already very high on most knives, hence they are not selling well. If they did - they wouldn't be going out of business. People are tapped and people don't need a bunch of different super steels on something sitting in a drawer or cutting vanilla ropes lol. How much is a good knife ? 250 dollars. How much is a good axe ? 250 dollars. The amount of work an axe does is incomparable and guess what - no axe ever needs a PM steel. These steels are a marketing gimmick to keep people addicted to buying more when in reality you only ever use a couple of knives that last a lifetime.

Everybody talking about how sad it is needs to start asking why this is happening and I could be wrong by saying this but it’s my beliefs that the lack of support of US companies is what’s killing our industry.Yall keep listening to influencers to buy knives from china and they are flooding the market with dirt cheap prices because of pretty much slave labor acts they have. Also they look pretty and have 15 different ways of deployment with t8’s and a deep carry clip but are they really what they say they are? Is it really m390? Even more importantly is it heat treated well? Also do you feel comfortable giving your money to a country that absolutely hates the USA? You can do as you please but will not buy Chinese knives and do my very best not to buy anything else from china as well even know that’s very hard to almost impossible to do

@@Brandon-ry4lb Visualize an elephant. Then visualize a pimple on that elephant’s butt. That elephant is the sum of US industries that consume steels. The tiny little pimple is the knife industry. Next. Why are people buying imported knives? Companies like Medford and Benchmade, by charging 5-6 times more for their mediocre products than their worth created the opportunity for other countries to make profit in this country. On the topic of slavery, if you’re paying a mortgage to a bank and getting medical insurance through your employer, ask yourself this: are you a truly a free man? I'm most definitely not a production magnacut fan but on the custom heat treatment end of things I love it and enjoy working with it. I don't know their debt situation so of course we really have no idea if a buyout will happen or not but I fully expect it to in fact I wouldn't be at all surprised if spyderco doesn't look at buying them out or at least buying the IP. I'm pretty sure that crucible will still be around come April. As you put it with the "this dick trying to cause a panick buying situation of Spydercos" you couldn't be more right, that is exactly what that dick is doing he wants them link clicks. As you said curcible or not companies like spyderco and Benchmade aren't going to be all the sudden out of stock of everything because of not being able to get steels they will find work with other steels and keep it moving. Prices will inflate because of it but that's part of the game we play but you tubers that are trying to create a panicking of their watchers to buy buy buy shows just how shitty some of the tubers are and just how selfish and it's sad that most people can't see it... With all that said, I'm not concerned with the thought of crucible being a thing of the past I fully believe a buyout and restructure will happen and I use their steels in knife making so part of my income could be affected by it yet I'm still fairly confident that CPM will pull thru this. I will definitely hurt the knife industry if they don't but other manufactures will step in it just may take some time. One thing we can bet on, there will still be plenty of high performance powder steels for us steel nerds to enjoy.

So this is what happens when u have gross mismanagement from the top. The entity that put up the money to buy them the last time has only looked at the comoany as an easy pay day and obviously hasnt been reinvesting the funds back into the company. In this knife market theres no way that they shouldnt have a substainable business model. Same would apply to the other areas of there manufacturing and if those areas werent profitable thats where the fat should have been trimmed. Again this all goes back to the fact that u have an entity running things, not a single person doing what's best for the company. Its sad to see hopefully someone with the funds and the desire to run it right will step in insteed of another investment firm looking for what they hope will be an easy cash cow with little to no involvement on there end. Panic buying will do nothing but inflate prices that r already frankly out of hand. If the business dosent get bought they will sell off the rights to the steel formulas to the highest bidder to pay of the creditors so these steels will still be around although there might be a shortage until manufacturing can resume after everything is settled. There is way to much money up for grabs on the knife end of there business for someone not to take advantage of it once they see their books.

This move is how Crucible will eliminate the union structure from their business model IMHO. The intellectual property and processes will be sold off and eventually a new steel company will emerge without union interference. Investors don't want to have to deal with unions and their tactics, can't blame them. It's to bad the employee's have to suffer the consequences but they did make the choice to work under union constraints when they signed on the doted line. Look around, just about every business model that exists in this country today that has unionized labor is in financial trouble. You don't have to look to far, automotive industry, government, postal service, the list goes on and on!

I do believe that a skilled worker should be compensated at a higher rate than a non-skilled one and, when unions do their job, the skill levels are codified. When, on the other hand, corruption sets in, the system falls apart. Based on the recent election, the era of balance may be coming, I’m very hopeful! Keep in mind, without the union members voting the way they did, I don’t think 45/47 would have swept the Midwest.
