Well tbf I wouldn't give Kobe a F for his first 3 finals. Like maybe 2000 but not 2001 nor 2002. In 2001, Kobe averaged 25 pts, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, while putting up 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks. Shaq averaged 33 pts, 16 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks. Although shaq was obviously way better, it's not like 2000 lol. So tbh I'd put 2001 in like C- or something like that. In 2002, Kobe put up 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists while having 1.5 steals and a block a game. He also put up good percentages like 54 percent from three. Shaq put up 36 points, 12 rebounds 4 assists, and 3 blocks a game. Again, Shaq is better than Kobe, but hes definitely closer than 2000, so i'd give that also like a C or a C-.

the only problem i see here is that it doesnt do justice for kobe's stats throughout the playoffs since it only discussed the finals. tbh, kobe was arguably better than shaq in 2/3 western playoffs from 2000-2002, the reason they even made it in the finals. it just so happened that the east was so weak that Shaq just needed to be Shaq to win it all..

The 2014-15 MVP stats don’t do Steph justice now when you provide context you see why he won it. Sat out multiple 4th quarters and led GSW to a lead best 67-15. He undoubtedly deserved it. As far as Kobe/Steph debate goes I agree Kobe is better now also has the insane edge on the defensive accolades which matter. If curry somehow manages to win #5 and his #2 fmvp (#3 in my head) it really REALLY becomes more of a debate. Curry rn is in his longevity phase so we’ll see how many more All-NBAs and All Stars he racks up im assuming he’ll finish as 14x for both still less of Kobe but it all comes down to preference. I wouldn’t even say 2000 was an F. He outscored Shaq and led the comeback in game 7 in the WCF no Kobe no finals appearance. In the finals no mention of him being purposely injured at the start of game 2 which decreased his per game averages and hurt his overall game. Even with an injury that kept him out of game 3 he carried the lakers in game 4 in OT. His per game averages weren’t great but he was playing injured and still had a huge impact on the series. Also he was easily the lakers best player in the 2001 playoff run Shaq just abused in the finals but Kobe outplayed in in the playoffs
