I honesty think the reason Radical Optimism is not as popular is because its claim of being "darker" is mostly in an aesthetic sense. For example when Taylor did Reputation it wasn't just limited to snakes and edgy production but with dark lyrics throwing shade and dissing. All the lyrics of RO can easily be passed as future nostalgia. Dua needs to go deeper
@icyflame7169 ай бұрын
Idk, i’ve seen this sentiment around that houdini and training season isn’t as good but I already connect way more with this era than future nostalgia. Training season has quickly become one of my favorite songs ever. Also, illusion is a bop.

Katy Perry really helped her at the start of her career. Katy brought Dua to the gramys with her, had dua open on the Witness Tour, and katy posted numerous videos of New Rules and helped it go viral

4:50 the standard the world holds female artists to is insane, if they release more then on album with a similar sound or concept the public immediately calls it boring and unoriginal, but I can name so many male artists/bands who have never changed their sound and are still super successful. Women artists have to basically rebrand themselves every. single. era. and give us the biggest, flashiest, high effort shows and music videos (which i love btw) just to stay relevant and a man can stand onstage with his guitar and get far less hate. the double standard and systemic sexism is truly crazy, but the impact women (sort of including dua) have been having these past few years is really great to see.
@_danieleffer9 ай бұрын
yes i completely agree!! i did have notes written down for this video to talk about the double standards in music and how female artists shouldn’t have to reinvent themselves to stay relevant. but i forgot to add it in annoyingly. thank u for your input !!!

Isnt that ALSO the reason why female fashion models are the highest paid? When it comes to fashion and who, women are expected to be more flashy, but their pay is also flashy. You could rephrase this as why is male fashion just simple and reprtitive and why male models get paid less?

I don't think she's flopping to her standard, in fact the debuts from this era now surpass the previous ones. Unfortunately, Dua never had success on the charts. New Rules only reached peak #6 after almost 1 year of release. DSN and Levitating only peaked at #2 over 4 months and almost a year later, respectively. This doesn't mean that she doesn't have hits, the fact that she has so many songs with over 1 billion on Spotify proves that she is a hitmaker. But unlike Taylor, Ariana or Beyoncé, Dua has a very small fandom, her music is more consumed by the general public, which is why her debuts are weak, and it takes a long time for them to become popular.

This was so well said!!! The thing that bothers me the most is the ascetic change like it actually disappointed me. I think also like self titled gives me tropical vibes like this feels like an ascetic repeat and it makes me sad because we waited 4 years for this and it feels cheap and messy!!!

I think Radical Optimism is kind of like a lead up to an amazing album better than future nostalgia, especially since future nostalgia it’s hard to beat so people are expecting her to reach that level again but for any artist it’s hard to do that. Radical Optimism wasn’t a flop it’s just a album for the community closer to Dua.
@ItsurbestiesamiАй бұрын
ALSOOOO, since Future Nostalgia was released during the pandemic and not a lot of music was released then so therefore that gave the album a better chance for getting popular because there wasn’t a lot of music released then. Now tho, there is a LOTTT of pop girlies releasing music like literally everyone is so that’s not giving the album a chance to shine. And last thing, the albums like Brat and short n sweet are taking like over social media so ya.

Dua Lipa is my second fave artist after Taylor Swift. Im very sad RO flopped, but lets be honest, RO wasnt it. It just wasnt anywhere near as good FN. I really thought she was gonna be back with a bang, but i was disappointed in RO. Houdini was a good start to the era, then it went downhill after that. I hope DL4 is a good comeback for her. She is a phenomenal performer. I want her to succeed.

Hey! Dua Lipa stan here. Dua said that single covers represent SINGLES not the main album theme. That's why we see a change in a aesthetics. Houdini/Training Season as Dua said in recent interviews are in the "red zone" of the album, meanwhile the rest are in the "blue part" like 'Illusion', the tracklist of the album proves it. 'End of an Era, Houdini, Training Season'. That's why the aesthetics change! Hope it helps. Also I really love that Dua dosen't put her personal life into the songs. I disagree with saying 'she needs to release a sad ballad to come up' I'm glad those songs aren't that 'relatable' as you said. Overall your video had some points and I'm really glad you weren't hating. This isn't a flop era. All the best to you!

I do not understand. In my opinion “Houdini” and “Training season” are just wonderful and so underrated I do not know why they did not become popular as “Don’t start know” or “Levitating” for instance. I like them more. Houdini is quite popular but “Training Season” just lost( No popular radio station even in the UK airplayed this track . Why ? It so quality and unusual. When I am looking at the Bilbord chart -I just want to ask what is going on in this world? So trashy music on the top ;((( Why do you think if “Training season” released earlier it would be a super hit? I think it wouldn’t have made a difference unfortunately ( I think something happened to the people’s taste Are you from the UK?
