Was there an ex or a potential girl he could have met in a new place or been spending a lot of time with recently, maybe because of a job or travel etc? Now obviously I understand this isn't nice to hear, but please recognise that this had everything to do with him, and nothing to do with you. It's not something you could have controlled. From the sounds of it you were handling and dating in the way which gave the best chance for a fruitful relationship. Hmmm I see, well first off there's not excuse for any abusive behaviour so you shouldn't have to endure that. So there's nothing wrong with not being ready. Some people are more ready than others and at different times, that's normal. However what you're seeing is that sex for your bf in a relationship is important to him (as it is important for many people). I don't believe he is just using you for sex because if he was, I doubt he would have stayed around for 4-5 months, however if sex is important for him in a relationship and it's not for you (at least not yet) then it may not be the right relationship for you. You should be having sex because you both want to. If you don't want to and it's something he values to have in within a relationship, then you're both clearly looking for different things. It's not fair to him but it's also not fair to you either. Alternatively, if you don't want to have sex but still want to be with him, it may be worth having a chat with him about having a sexual outlet for him somewhere else. That way you don't lose him and he's not having to sacrifice something that's important to him. Ofc doing it this way is easier said than done. Would take a lot of maturity and openness and you'd have to set some ground rules. I'm just saying that there's more than one way to handle this, just talk to him and see what he says. Yes it is possible. There is only one way at this point, to call it off completely for now. If you've been having regular sex he's already decided he's not going to commit to you. You have to call it off if you ever hope for there to be a chance in the future. Space is needed, time is needed. If he's only looking for sex then you have to show that you're not to be part of that. Only when he wants something more are you willing to invest in him. It's kind of like a guy wanting to come out of the friend-zone with a girl. If he's in the friend zone she's already decided she doesn't want him like that, no matter how much he tries with her. The only way for it to happen in the future is for him to break things off and give space and time. It's only then when enough space and time has been had that she no longer see's him as a 'friend', is it then possible for her to see him as a lover.
