Hey Psych2Go I don’t really know how to explain this but, I have a crush and we used to talk a lot and then his friend died :( so he was suffering quite a lot. We don’t talk as much more but when i try to avoid him(trying to make it less awkward) he questions me. Like today I was at school and he tried to come near me and talk to me about it but I kept moving away because I didn’t wanna make it obvious. We still talk but not as much and I think he is maybe confused why I try to avoid him but I’m also confused because his actions have changed almost as if he doesn’t care but then he like switches. i think the sad thing is not losing interests, it's about giving up easily when they lost interests, not only the person that lost interests, also other person. I just feel, if you get bored it's ok to break up, or keep some distance, because that is the natural flow of the intimate relationships, just think about your best friends, your families, no one is going to stick with you 24/7, they are likely to get interested in you for days, weeks, and then their interests are diverted into other things/people, and you won't hear from them for weeks, months, or even years. Losing interest is definitly not equal to losing love, logically speaking love and interest are two sepereate things. Someone can be interested in you but not love you, and someon can be loving you but not interested in you. Identifying what the other party really thinks about you is the key, not what they do. It is not ok to hate each other and cut off with each other just because you lost interest in someone or someone lost interest in you. because seriously, love is a life-long journey, you should give people the chance to wonder and stray in the path of loving, and that's not a bad thing, as long as both party have concents, and not betraying each other, such as ghosting, cheating, ect. and when you lost interest or someone lost interest in you, it's critical for both to understand each other or communicate properly with each other. It's time to keep some distance or just completly forget about that person, without any hatred. You can even alow yourself to miss them. But don't do stupid things, the worst thing you can do during this time is to keep bothering each other trying to win them back, or even worse begging ther other person's attention. This is the crucial capacity of embarking on the advanture of love. but at the end, if the other person stopped loving you, then it is about time to leave them as well. When you have more experience on intimate relationships, you can feel someone love you or not, and you can tell the difference between interest and love. Put it simple, love is about looking for long-term relationship, interest is for short-term relationship. People do things differently depending on what they want, they are suttle, and unique to each individual. But you can feel it when it comes.

For anyone experiencing number 5, DONT GET ANGRY! Too many times in my 20s did I take being ignored way too personally, and every time I lost my patience and sent a passive aggressive text to draw attention to me being ignored. DONT! If they’re starting to leave you on read, keep your dignity and move on or let them chase you. Otherwise, you’re only validating their loss of interest toward you and making yourself look a whole lot less desirable.

I’m a heterosexual man and I’ll tell people that I’d bang Ewan McGregor from Star Wars, no homo. I really wouldn’t bang him if I was put in a situation where I had the opportunity, but my point is that straight men can have their attention drawn to good looking men the same as they do women; They call it “being attractive” for a reason. They just don’t say it openly to avoid confusing people about their sexuality, unless they are really comfortable about who they are. As for being quiet, as long as he is still initiating hangouts and conversations with you he probably just prefers your company over conversation, is still warming up to you, or both. In my experience, the only sure sign that someone is losing interest is when they constantly come up with excuses to not hangout, or they bail on a hangout and never reschedule. Hopefully my message wasn’t too late and everything good with you guys. Wherever his heart is or was, just know these things take time to get right, and if you fail that just means you’ve learned a new way to navigate a problem. These things come with experience and time, and A LOT of trial and error.

Happened to me in my last relationship. She was hanging out with someone that had the same interests as her and was less interested in the relationship we had, however I kind of felt the same way. We didn't really have much in common, and we had a very different lifestyle. We broke it off. However, we stayed in touch and are still friends to this day. A couple years later, I found someone who was more in tuned with me. Had similar core values, interests, dreams and lifestyle. I think we both found what we are looking for in each other. Tell them that you think the relationship is fading out, ask if they wanna work on it or move on. Having an answer from them is always better than nothing. I've known some people who just don't do well long distance because they're better at interacting in person instead of doing it through texting or calling. The person i was talking too was even unavailable for much of the time and have many other sexual partners and it was at a long distance yet I put in the wishes, hopes, dreams and needs and let me suffer through another four weeks of what if and two weeks of restoration and now another two weeks of suffering over it ending again and not knowing what to do it anything with it.

Thank you for mentioning this! And sometimes it can also mean that the person is having too much on their plate at the moment (finals, endless doctor appointments etc.). Sometimes I feel like such an awful friend for disappearing from social media and turning off my phone (thus, disrupting all contact) for a couple of weeks, but I do that mostly during major mood swings and other bad things that can result in me lashing out on my friends. And it can be hard to explain to some people... So thank you so much for bringing this up, it's really important to take this into consideration sometimes~

I recently due to quarantine pulled back from social media from everything really and as my mental health plummeted I decided to fix that and I knew the only way to fix it was to pull away from everyone... I fell into a depression without realizing it a few months ago. Due to it and not being able to openly communicate the symptoms to my partner, I unintentionally displayed all these signs to her. Evntually she left me, also without clearly communicating her fears and hurt to me. I feel so miserable having given her these signs although losing interest in her was the last thing I did. She's an overthinker as well. I tried to reach out to her again, but apparently she doesn't believe in second chances. I thought a lot about myself and how I feel and how I want to feel and your videos really helped me a great lot to deal with this situation somehow but I miss her so much. You can also accept feelings and situations change as you are not entitled to someones time amd affection constantly. And it often has nothing to do with the person you are. People are allowed to choose for their own happiness. And of you accept that this happened it means there is no longer the connection you want. You can move on and find a match that suits you. Dont become a vindictive dick where you can only move on when the other party "is someone who doesnt deserve you" its not strength when you think like that. But weakness as you put every "fault" on the other party.

OMG. I thought you were my ex for a second, but then you wrote that she found someone else(which I definitely didn’t) . From my point I can honestly say that I suffered from depression and anxiety, and my ex couldn’t deal with me not being as attentive. It’s hard, because I really tried, and although we co-ended it, it still felt like he just left me stranded in the middle of the ocean by myself. COVID just started, I couldn’t really escape, so I had to face my demons alone. The difference is that I admitted during the breakup that I’m not good enough for him because I couldn’t provide the attention he wanted. It’s a shame that your ex just held onto you for so long. I wouldn’t say fear, I’m going through a dark time. My ex left me prob bcs he fell out of love. He led me on thoguh which kinda hurt. But just learn to guard your heart and be your own best friend. Guard your heart and know that there’s always going to be many relationships that are going to make you learn.
