Is it a BAD IDEA to buy a USED 2016 C7 Corvette Z06? - Raiti's Rides

When the C7 Corvette ZO6 came out on to the scene there was a mixture of cheers and tears! On one hand the car was now supercharged and could be bought with an automatic, and on the other enthusiasts were saying that it lost it's way. At the end of the day what we have is a top performing Corvette with 650hp and 650ft lbs of torque. Is there any reason to fear buying a used 2016 Corvette ZO6?

This guy never answers the question but I will. I actually own a C7 Z06 manual and the car is bad ass. Buying one used saves a lot of money and the car is unbelievable. I can’t say anything bad about it. Now I’m saving up for a used C8 Z06 when I can get one.

Love my 2016 Shark Grey Z06. I added the black racing stripes. Couldn't be happier with the look and performance this car has! The sound the supercharger makes when you get on it is music to my ears.

Another terrific Raiti review. I'm not a C7 fan, but that's a good looking car. Your comment about the 84-96 C4 hood did not go unnoticed. I wish all front engine sports cars would do something similar as access to the engine compartment was unprecedented.

I've had my '17 Z06/07 for going on two years now. I absolutely love it. It has been bulletproof and is incredibly practical. I drive it all year long up here in Saskatchewan Canada with studded winter snow tires on it. It's amazing how planted the car is. I have no problem driving on snow and ice covered roads with it, and that is where the automatic transmission really comes in handy. The transmission switches gears so quickly in automatic, and changes just before 2000 rpm so you're always hooked up. You just lightly press the gas pedal and the car is constantly accelerating regardless of the road surface. I could never change the gears and keep the car in the traction like that with a manual transmission.

The supercharger is not inverted. Idk why he says this or where he got that from! Its a roots style supercharger not a centrifugal one for instant boost and power, no waiting for boost here, its almost as if its naturally aspirated. Only give away is the whine!!! I have a 2015 CTS-V coupe and a 2019 corvette Z06 love them both and both have around 800hp now.

I love Chevy muscle cars I have a Camaro SS. I love it really I could not get out of the corvette so got the Camaro. I had years ago a 1985 IROCZ and thought that was fast.What a difference the 2018 I have now is 455 HP 🚀The supercharged corvette is a rocket as well as the Camaro ZL1.Great review of the car 👍🏻😎

Love to hear you announce that if anyone has a Vette for you to review you will. Great review of the ZO6. I would prefer the racing seats and like you, unless I need a hip or knee replacement, I want a manual transmission. Now for your trivia question and it's easy. What was the first year disc brakes became standard on the Corvette? Keep Tom well fed and buy him a gym membership a a gift card for GNC. He needs his strength. lol Save the Wave.

You are correct, '65 was the first year for disc brakes. As to what ended? If I understand your question correctly, the fuel injection option ended with the '65. If your question is as to what was no longer available on a '65 from previous years, I don't know.

You are correct. The 396 was a one year only in the '65 Vette, but very late in the production year you could have gotten a 427. These are very, very rare.

I have the 2016 with the same color, and the added side skirts, stage 3 front side winglets, black leather interior, stage 3 rear spoiler and bottom diffusers on the back side, I love that car. oh and painted all the red and orange reflectors with plasti-dip .

I test drove a manual 2015 ZO6 in sport mode yesterday, not in "weather" mode as the roads were damp on the drive. At 50 MPH, I gave it a little throttle blip (as a car was on my ass), only to experience the rear end spin the car counterclockwise by about 15 degrees. Wasn't expecting the rear to move out from underneath me so damn easily. I just let off the gas and let the steering straighten on it's own. Kind of scary, as that could have gone into full spin out and possibly a roll. The 4,000 mile car had nearly bald tires. Lesson learned: Control that power!

This color is Shark Gray not Watkins Glen Gray. The WGG was not introduced until 2017 and this car is a 2016. The WGG is darker and also has an iridescent quality changing from gray to black depending on lighting.

I bought a C7 2019 1LT, 7 speed manual with only 8857 miles in May of 2022. It’s in Red, I traded my Mustang GT 2019 manual with 7700 miles. Mustangs are cool, but the Corvette is a different breed, I’m extremely happy great car!

Blackout badges are an option on any Stingray or ZO6. Also flat bottom steering wheel went into every Stingray and ZO6 from 2016 forward. I don't feel like you did your homework before you did your review

Here's an actual opinion for those that would like one since the clickbait title doesn't offer it. Friend just sold a '17 Z06 Z08 pkg with 6k on it. Sold it thru CarMax. Potential buyer looked up my friend (as noted on the History report) on the interwebs and politely asked him if he would mind sharing some details about it. My friend, who loved this dream car, gladly offered the history on it and chatted about it with him. Used almost exclusively for track days running oversized slicks, noted when new brake pads had been installed and tire change mileages, no noted issues other than a tendency to heat the oil pretty hot on track days if it wasn't a fresh change. Even sent him some track day photos we had. So reach out...these are a dream purchase for most and we all love to talk about them. And, if you have that kind of accurate history, it will add value when you go to sell it.

Should not be concerned about value... all cars are based on how much they can steal from you... ?new cars are a luxury.. thats it... there a.big loss all the way through till the depreciation slows down . A three year old car is about your best bet, just have cash ..its the best bargaining power... good luck with your purchases.

I love the C7 Z06! Great looking car, lots of power, handles and stops well....what more do you need? If you can find one used with low mileage and well cared for, it could be a good buy. Sounds like you need to stay away from LBJ Media's car though. :)

Weird title to the video. Plus I think the back tail lights are one of the best things about the Corvette. I love the taillights square and are supposed to emulate the Chevy emblem and they’re clear.

Yea and no, the Camaro Zl 1le. Has been clobbering the twice as aexlensive if not mors Zr1 In track test. Stock. And most anything else. Sore street emissions legal and wven Ckfonia emissions legal the zl1 1le colbbers everything on track and easy and cheap to get 2000 Rewhip on it and be much more powerfull that Zr1 corvette lime 2ook super car. All great cars. Just the Zl1 1le as far ad track you can have more power how you need it. Much cheaper, and I love all the GM card lime this. I think comaro Zl1 1le is just insane even stock. Price wise, vs corvette much more overpriced models. If you are doimg toad racing better, if you want to drag, easy to get into 800.hp to 1000 Hp range. Just an unrivaled car. I love vetts but foe normal LT1 in say grand-port so Much more expensive, even 1lz without like luxury bullshit that weighs it down. And with the Z07 performance package with Carbon Ceramic breaks on corvette grand sport getting close to 100k for an Lt1 good engine and power ain’t everything but for same frice you can have Zl1 1le and no carbon ceramic breaks and certain other stuff but loaded out 70k car with will absolutely demonlish a corcette grand port and maybe current Zp6 again without 150k car for z07 package for carbon ceramic breaks and marginal upgrades. I think all are amazing cars for what they offer. Just the camaro’s are doing better in terms of performance for the price by a lot... recentlyz. Love betted and they are still superb cars. Just like I think a little over priced compared to comaros ATM delending on what you want. They Are two veey different cars. Just for price and performance vetted need to be bumped down in price in my opinion. It is the halo car and marketing plays a role but unless you are hardcore into fairly heavy modification which then makes them More expensive at that IDK if it’s with it. Love both. I think superior to mustangs. The Cmaro’s are raping mustang performance and price wise and corvettes are just very special cars. Even if I think can be overpriced. Then Again if you are settling cor the death of grat options on On betted and not looking for line extreme suspension and other great GM offerings lime carbon ceramic breaks, the low trim levels more toward purism snd not luxury, hard to go wrong. Just think pricing is a little absurd, then Again C7 Z06 vs whatever ford has to offer in like gt359 with markup putting into range of Zo6 vette lucky enough to drive both. Different but gt359 and future Gt500 Are nust mustangs. And if t You need emissions legal Zo6 new now that overheating issued solved for most hardice track usage. A better blower on LT4 engine as far as engine bay temps fir cinservstice tunes you can easily have 800 Hp/torques. Never been a Ford guys guys they are much better than they were but Camaro much better performance and handling. Corvette is just a proper sports and bordering on shoer car or even lower power just a savage car in any trim, Lighter. Much better than mustangs for price. Ford has done a lot of good things but just alls behind. IMO... the Mustang halo car and they just keep releasing More expensive and not really Much better mustangs in terms of performance real performance. I mean Just my two cents over camaro now and vettes are in a titally different class from mustangs. IDK. I just wish the vettes and even Camaros would be a little less pricey or at least offer more more stripped down cheaper performance options for cheaper. GT350 is amazing car for daily driver formme. With no boost. Just not for 70-80k new for markup...and comaro ss 1le, just minimal Modifications shits on Gt350 Performance wise with no forced induction ebven very cheap more than it already does. Imtersting car world these days. The new 2019 Mustangs with all bloat and optioned out for performance is kind of a joke price wise without all the convenience options. 60k mustang GT is in lrice range of camaro Zl1 which just comes loaded with features I see as not what i’d want but basically it is optioned out at the price, power gain and everything much better and 650 h0 and torque at crank at least vs like a 60k Mustang GT. Like what the hell. mustanf inferior to just normal Ss camaro but then in orice range of Zl1 especially mustang bullet. I can’t understand why you would want 69k Mustang GT or Bullitt vs Zl1? Maybe I’m biased. Gt350 is a special with special engine without markups and I can get why pole would want that and I love it. But price wise and other than that which is no markup pricewise the same as new bloated crazy mustangs other than styling brand loyalty and personal preference to me inferior cars to what GM has to offer. I mean you can get ls7 z28 camaro barely used i. The 30k’s now. Sorry but that simply obliterated mustangs other than gt350R. And Driven it and it’s just sooo bad ass. Not a daily driver for most but for that price now, you can get whatever amount power and upgraded handling and the thing is a tank. I lcd LS7 and ls7 Zo6 corvette wicked fast NA, again so affordable now and cheap upgrades for perfromance and handling and if you really need absurd performance in terms of engine power you can get that two for pretty cheap and again bullet proof. Just crazy to me that a c6 Camaro 1ss 1le is a better driving and sports car than a bmw m3, M4 stock M4 overpriced snd watered down, excessively heaving and 80k. Base price. Zl1le which cheaper and a track and even drag beast factory just totally dominated anything close.

In Formula 1, the last time a car started with manual was in 1994. Lambos, McLaren's and even Porsches are not produced any more with manual but half-automatic with paddle shifters only or DCT. The manual shifting takes simply too much time. Why should a sportscar company produce top-modern engines, suspensions etc. but equipe the car with a manual, which loses 0,1-0,3 seconds each time at a gear change?

@ Ralph: Look, in IMSA, in Formula 1 and even in all kind of Rallye Races NO ONE drives any more with a clutch pedal, simply because it is too slow in comparison to sequential transmissions with paddle shifting etc. If you belong to those racers, for whom time is not the most important, then it's up to you ("just for fun") but I am the type, who want to win races and therefore I appreciate the quickest gear changers and this is definitely not a 3 pedal/manual ...

Joe, this is definitely on my bucket list and has been since I have been five years old. I want a C7 Corvette. I ache when I see one on the road which is not an every week event. These things are somewhat rare or maybe I should say; hardly any of them are Daily driven. If I had a 7 speed manual Vette I would daily the Hell out of it. My Corvette is going to have 150K miles on it after 7/8 years. I’m not “saving “ it. Cars are made to be driven not tucked away in a garage... ( said the hypocrite who has a 32 year old Mustang GT growing hair in my garage) But that’s another story... Anyway, yet another fun and informative RR review. I think I need a shirt. Time for some free advertising for my boy RR. How about getting your better half back into the mix? Not only is she very comfortable in front of the camera and well spoken, she is also a hell of a lot easier on the eyes than you are Joe. Just ribbon’ ya bruh that was too easy 😂. It will overheat on the way home. Up until 2017 the Z06 had big design flaws, hence all the class action suits against GM.

Preowned is the only way to buy a vette. They depreciate quickly thanks to all the people who sell them within 2ys of owning one. I don’t know who at Chevy approved that color red for the interior. It looks terrible. The red in my 2016 Mustang interior looks so much better.
