That last level is the problem with bad level design. There were no coins for the bomb ladder or the ground pound spring jump, no arrows at the blind jump at 13:18 and something I personally dislike: hidden blocks preventing the path. Such a shame, because it would have been a really good level with some indication. Props to Ryu for beating it quickly after that! Just shows how good he is at the game.

That's my gripe with so many of these "super expert" levels. Most of them are only so impossible to clear because it's something you have to memorize, not because it necessarily has a high skill ceiling. Many of them do take skill, but it would be so much more fair if parts of levels were better telegraphed.

@kilameidairwantoro40325 жыл бұрын
A super cool trick you can do with no dmg stages is to use Mario's size as an obstacle: if you consume a mushroom, flower or any other kind of power-up, you can make it such that Mario cannot progress through a one-tile spike passage or a similarly devilish obstacle. In this manner, you can use no dmg stages to turn powerups into an obstacle.

what were they thinking only giving you 30 lives for an ENDLESS run?? let alone 100 for just 6 levels
@sirmoonslosthismind5 жыл бұрын
nintendo realized that when players play at their skill level, they earn as many lives as they lose. that's the essence of an endless run. thus, you don't need all that many lives to start with.
@samuelh.21185 жыл бұрын
@@sirmoonslosthismind Maybe for Easy through Normal. Super Expert should start at 50, at least, considering it throws the levels with the lowest clear rates at you. Once you play enough of them you'll realize at least half are troll, glitch, or precision levels. You will lose FAR more than you gain, even assuming you hit the cap of earning 3 lives per level.. Even someone as good as Ryu gets his runs ruined *(frequently)* or takes 30+ lives because of this. Now imagine those as your first level in Endless Super Expert. It's terrible. 50+ to start, imo. 30 for Expert. More than fair.

To be fair, it started getting to the point where 100 lives for 6 levels could be cleared MOST of the time. After 69 goes, that kills the suspense a bit. Nintendo wanted to up the challenge. Nintendo just, naturally, doesn't know how to balance challenge and went overboard with it.

The "Speedrun" tag in the Japanese version uses タイムアタック (taimu atakku) "Time Attack". No wonder they are putting スピードラン in the title, though タイムアタック *is probably another to look out for* for speed runs. I find it a little odd SMM2 do this.
@OmniscientWarrior5 жыл бұрын
@@StudioKonKon Time attack can also be for having to do stuff that has timers, like P switch, before you cannot complete.

@@OmniscientWarrior I guess that makes sense. Still seems odd the English version uses "speedrun" and the Japanese version uses "time attack". I've always seen the two as two different things.
