The only thing keeping Jake Paul from boxing a boxer, is finding someone at his level that will draw a crowd. Big name boxers are either in the top ten or they are legends. Big name mma guys are popular, yet within a skill level he’s able to win against. In boxing, that is.

That’s very true, @@andrewvela6312 and professional boxing is and has always been a show biz. A quite corrupt one, I might add. Personalities, either with great charisma or who for other reasons have shown to be marketable have always had huge advantages when it comes to getting paid well and getting the fights they want or need. So nothing different here. He has still proven to win against opponents that at least mma fans think will win against him. Just randomly I watched Demetrius “Mighty” Johnson’s KZbin channel, and almost 80% of his poll voting viewers thought Perry would win. 45k participated. His viewers are among the more educated ones. At least to a certain degree. Mighty has always tried to have a rational approach to the fight game.

Of course he is a real boxer. The problem is that he only fights people with no real experience within his ruleset. Or over the hill. Or underweight. My favorite take on this is Chael Sonnen who points out that your skill only last the 1st half of the fight and after that your instincts as a fighter got to be there, your ability to dig deep, take punishment, stay focused, and still get the win, which is what Jake has proven he has the ability to do.

Not only would it legitimize this whole thing, he could play the benefactor angle by bringing big money to fighters with no name. I will point your comment out to Gabriel as I think that would be an interesting video. As parents or a family, you do not want to be braggy about your kids/or brothers accomplishments - no one wants to hear that kind of stuff, it just comes off really wrong. A number of years back, the front page of the sports section was an article about Gabriel winning his first pro world title. The comment I valued the most was our next door neighbour of ten years saying to me "oh- I did not know your family did martial arts...." It was a new experience for Gabriel to have complete strangers come up to him and say hi / congratulations/ good job and ask for an autograph. Gabriel is a really quiet, humble guy, but he is very polite as well, and he always would answer questions and spend time or do a photo. It would be a different experience again to be someone like Ali, Mayweather, McGreggor..... truly world wide famous people, who could not go anywhere without someone recognizing them. Up until now he has had really good experience and has shown his power and new skills but he will be limited in what he learns unless he puts himself in there with someone who doesn't defend themselves with their face. I dont think that is the point of the critique. The issue is that Jake Paul largely takes fights that largely favor him without having gone through the ranks of fighting like many boxers have and still are going through. He lost to a person that was trained as a boxer but he often picks those within the MMA community to box. I will give him credit in this fight though but ultimately he isnt a boxer; he is a boxer that never had to work to achieve that level of fame and basically bought his way in. Is that diminshing to his potential talent? No... but he has yet to fight boxers that are trying to make it up the ladder and that is the point. If he truly wants to box then he should start like most fighters who fight up the ranks.

What they mean is he doesn't fight real boxers, unless they are much smaller than him. And in boxing you are supposed to compete against other boxers that are the same weight as you. Boxing against old MMA competitors that are much smaller and don't really have much skill or experience boxing isn't really all that fair of a fight. So yes, Jake is a real boxer. He's just boxing smaller, older, guys without much boxing experience.

If the question is, is Jake a boxer, the answer is yes, obviously, he's going into the squared circle to box. If the question is, is Jake Paul on his way to a heavyweight championship, the answer at least for now is no. Jake doesn't want to work up the ranks he wants to take short cuts. Mike Tyson fought 15 professional fight in 1985 alone, more fights than Jake has had in his lifetime. If Jake had started even at 20 and started in amateur leagues and worked his way up. Sure a super rich kid can hire trainers and become a relatively ok Boxer compared to a "regular" guy but to become a contender takes years of dedication and 4 or 5 years of even high level training won't compare to a fighter whose made it his lifelong goal. Period. As has been stated before, when Paul went against a guy his size and weight in Fury he lost, does he think he can beat Tyson Fury now? Just silly. Canello would make very short work of Jake.

I think it's a bit disingenuous to attribute people's problems with Jake Paul to his not being competitive in the top 10. That in itself means nothing, Emmanuel Augustus never was in the top 10 and people love him to bits. Jake Paul put a lot of effort into learning boxing, but only ever fights people who are either less experienced than he is in it, much smaller than he is, much older than he is, or a combination of the above. That and any time he wins he talks smack like he's defeated Roy Jones Jr or Ali at their primes. The fact he's probably also juiced to the gills is up for debate, but the massive, gaping chasm between his ego and his actual accomplishments isn't.

The way the term “real boxer” is misused, is just as stupid as how people misuse the word amateur boxer. If you box, you box. If you fight, you fight. Is he good? Compared to what? He’s decent enough to easily outbox a bunch of mma legends. Silva was good enough to beat Chavez jr. Does it make him great? No. But he clearly isn’t just a KZbinr anymore. Diaz, he fights when he wants... Perry, he usually fights at 170's, not 200! I don't call that guy a legit boxer! Anybody that thinks these fights are real, I feel sorry for them. Mike perry is one of most aggressive fighters in bare knuckle. Now all the sudden is timid throwing punches towards Jake Paul. (with gloves on) Jake Paul fights reminds of me of the old days of mma in Japan where fighters were taking dives for the paycheck. It really is a shame to see combat sports go down this road as Ive been a huge fan for years. Im glad I never paid to watch these fights.

It depends what you mean by “Real” Real in terms of having real fights sure he is, Real in terms of actually fighting other competitive fighters like a “Real” boxer does, Definitely not and never will be, He has no intention of fighting boxers who have actual boxing experience who have had amateur fights before turning professional, He’s completely fine with what he’s doing, he’s making more money in one fight that most “real” boxers do in their entire career, Jake has no intentions of fighting his way up the rankings and become undisputed champion and he doesn’t have to, He’s clearly boxing because he likes to fight and make money, Not for the accomplishments, Why would he not keep doing what he’s doing the fact that he’s got to where he is right now is crazy, there has never been anyone like him, Undisputed champions don’t bring in crowds like him, He’s a showman out and out and that’s all he ever will be, and that’s completely fine
