Exactly! And if you think about it, everyone says something is wrong with every type of food and diet we eat. Folks say apples aren't good for you because they have pesticides. They say eat organic. Come to find out organic foods are treated with organic pesticides. They say eat fruits and veggies more often, then say stay away from broccoli because wits goitrogenic, stay away from soy because it's estrogenic, stay away from high glycemic fruits because it contributes to diabetes. So then, you severely restrict you food intake to stay mostly on healthy veggies. Then they say a veggie only diet is not good because it lacks B vitamins. So then you do mostly high protein, and now it's animal products contribute to animal suffrage. So then you go vegan, but the amount of animals that die from more people becoming vegan is starting to outweigh the non-vegan diet. All the wild hogs, squirrels, rabbits, and other small mammals are dying from being poisoned in crops. There is no winning. The ta t of the matter is you gotta eat at the expense of cellular respiration. Every doggone time you eat you die a little more due to the consequences of cells have to expend energy to metabolize food. Honestly, it doesn't matter what kind of diet you're on. As long as you are doing the best to promote longevity as you near your life expectancy then all the fuss over "what is the best diet" is obsolete. It only matters depending on your personal goals, creating balance in the ecosystem and what kind of ailment you have. Otherwise, people debating over diet fads is ridiculous.

Alot of doctors will not want you to do keto because once diabetes is reversed you will no longer be their patient. Not beneficial to them. I feel that a great doctor will join in the band wagon and assist you in successfully maintain yourself healthy. Including educate themselves to educate us about how our body actually work and how to maintain it. Just like Dr Berry! My husband (who is 68 and declared diabetic for 12 years) also reversed his diabetes....His endocrinologist at first was not too happy that he went to see a metabolic doctor. They educated and helped him during the process of reversing it. It started with a complete blood workup, detoxifying his metabolism, starting him on certain vitamins and supplements that his body was deficient in, removing certain foods, and reintroducing the food watching for any reaction to that food. He found that he was allergic to casein. At that time, the metabolic doctor did not know that I had been on keto for 9 months and the information I received and applied to me I applied to my husband... The proof was that in two weeks my husband had stopped all his meds and on his next Endocrinology appointment his A1C went from 7.5, 8 to 5.5. Dr. Holt could not negate the truth. Keto is a positive result for my husband and me. Thank goodness for true metabolic health educators who want to use their gift to healing others. These are the true doctors!

I love Keto. But... just this past Friday I had to go to the ER because I was peeing blood, throwing up, and in the worst pain I have ever been in. The diagnosis was renal colic due to kidney and bladder stones caused by high uric acid levels in my urine. The high uric acid was caused by my high fat, high protein Keto diet which I had been following for about 1 1/2 years. The report I was given says to avoid high fat diets, avoid high protein diets, and avoid food high in purines. So, maybe it is true that Keto adversely affects some people? I have pre-existing stage 4 chronic kidney disease. I have been doing keto for six months. I just saw my kidney doctor and got the results of my latest labs. My kidneys are currently stable and I have even seen some improvement in creatinine clearance. I told my kidney doctor that I was doing keto, and he says that is the diet he is on as well. If it was bad for the kidneys, he would know. He said the only way the protein you eat is bad for your kidneys is if you combine it with a high carbohydrate diet.

@@vicki7807 I will be on keto the rest of my life. I have as much fat and protein as I want and less than 20 carbs per day, 10 if I can swing it. I eat any meat, eggs, small amounts of cheese, and a very few non-starchy vegetables. Animal fats only - no vegetable oils. Inflammation is your enemy, and oils are highly inflammatory. No grains. An occasional rare baked good made with almond flour. But some people are sensitive to nuts. Try to do OMAD most days. But a typical day is coffee only for breakfast, sausage and eggs at lunch. I was on keto/carnivore for over a year until about last April when I had a drink of alcohol, which spiralled into about a month of binge drinking, followed quickly by all of my bad food cravings of old! I managed to get back on the carnivore diet in late June. In July, I started getting pains in my lower right back which later proved to be kidney stones. I don't blame the carnivore diet. I figure the kidney stones were a delayed effect of my horrible eating and alcohol while I fell off the wagon. It was night and day. Sick eating poorly, well eating carnivore. Kidney stones are now done with, although I've yet to get a CT scan, as advised by my doctor, to verify the situation.

Would love to convince my parents (64 & 63 respectively) that low carb would do them a world of good. Both of them were born in the 50's and have believed the grains/fat/seed oil lies all their lives. I have lost 110 lbs doing low carb (carnivore now), all bio markers have improved, dropped 4 pant sizes and 3 shirt sizes while they keep getting bigger and bigger. This weekend my mom told my brother that she is worried about my dad. His memory is going and he has trouble with mental processes at times. The man hasn't been able to look straight down and see his feet for decades. We told her about needing to change their diet and she just shrugged it off with a "Well I don't know" mumble. Even showing her where doctors are now calling alzheimers/dementia type 3 diabetes didn't phase her a bit. All the while they keep telling me that I need my carbs and that I need to be careful because I am probably doing irreversible damage to my body. Four years into this lifestyle and they still act like I'm crazy. 🤦♂️

Basically, the keto diet is what I grew up eating. We were very poor, but we had gardens and my grandparents and uncles had chickens, cows, and pigs. We always had healthy foods. Desserts were only special occasions. We did eat sandwiches, but that was the biggest exception. It wasn't until 1993 that I started stress eating, which included sodas and everything else I could get my hands on. And I can tell a huge difference. I believe that, like cigarettes, the chemicals in processed foods are highly addictive, making it difficult to get away from them. But I'm trying... to me, keto is mostly old fashioned eating - veggies, meats, and whatever fruits are in season. I have a friend who is type 2 diabetic and her doctor has her convinced she needs carbs - from wherever. That a low carb diet is bad for her. I've tried to show her proof otherwise, but.....

My GFR became 75%. About 2weeks ago, I checked my kidney function again , it's now 88%. I will say that I have now become very conscious of what and how I eat. It should also be noted that clinicians who use ketogenic diets in their practice usually tell their patients to limit their protein as well as their carbs, as extra protein can be converted into glucose. A ketogenic diet isn't necessarily even a high protein diet. This "keto kills the kidneys" news report is confused on multiple levels.

Protein waste like creatinine raised from 14.4 to 28.8. Urea went from 1.4 to almost 3. I lost 30 lbs. similarly dropped from healthy kidney function to a stage 3b in 40 days. Animal protein was the sole cause of my kidney decline. Your evidence is the raise in creatinine levels in the blood. I glad you aren’t my Dr.
