Thanks! I had seen the full episode but forgot about the moringa discussion. Does anyone have any information on how to dose and get the most out of dried moringa leaves? A family member has been quite ill lately (recently diagnosed Celiac, Oral Allergy Syndrome, probably some other immune issues causing extreme fatigue). I feel they could benefit from upping Nrf2 but don't know how to go about it - they are allergic to most raw veg and also are averse to stuff that tastes bad. So broccoli sprout smoothies and my 'sulforaphane soup' (cooked smoothie - which seems to actually taste worse that the raw smoothies) are out, as is cabbage juice. I tried dried moringa leaf and had a reaction to it (I've also recently become very atopic - itching, hives, eczema, GERD, headaches, etc. - I think our health problems are due to a bad gut bug, some think it is due to mold exposure). Can moringa leaf powder be cooked and will it still have active moringin? Are there shelf-stable extracts out there (a capsule would be great)? Or should I just try getting Prostaphane shipped and hope it gets here okay? There are some other companies that have started selling Nrf2 boosters besides LifeAdvantage, some of which have other products that I've found helpful - but I don't want to plunk down a lot of money for something that either won't work or has a bunch of other plant-derived ingredients that could cause a reaction. If it works I don't mind spending the $$$ - wish the Prostaphane company understood that and set up a distribution/delivery system in the US (they could learn from Visbiome). Make money helping people get healthy - why not?!

I grew Moringa in my garden in Pennsylvania. The plants grew to about 7' tall. I harvested the leaves in mid-September, dried them and put them in the blender to powder. I had about 8 plants. I was amazed how well they grew and how tall they became in a few short months. That was about 10 years ago and although I don't grow it anymore, I still take two grams of Moringa a day. I also mix a 50:50 ratio of Moringa and Turmeric in my Labrador retriever food, 1/4 teaspoon 3x per day with a cup of dry dog food and moist dog food along with a 1/4 cup of aloe juice. The aloe juice is for seizures which works very well. I personally take 4 grams of moringa along with 8 grams of turmeric and 2 grams of Matcha powder per day. I buy the organic powders and put them in 000 capsules. I have heart issues and I also take 250,000 IU's of Serrapeptase.

Every house in the Philippines has a moringa tree. We put it in soups and it's very good. It doesn't taste anything so it's also good for kids because it doesn't taste anything when cooked. Post partum women are advised to take moringa soup to induce milk production and lactation. People just go outside the house and get moringa whenever they are out of vegetables.

Hi, I live in Canada, but we can always buy fresh moringa in the Indian and Chinese Store, I get the leaves wash it and put in container and freeze it then add on anything I eat and re-heat a little, make moringa omelette - yummy, adding to soup, make a broth, add chicken, green papaya and ginger then add moringa, if you have fever, you will get well. You add fresh moringa on anything you eat, the steam, i don't throw, I add to boiling water with turmeric, black pepper, dried dandelion steam and dried oregano, filter, and use the water for my coffee, plus a little bit of cold pressed virgin coconut oil, it's yummy coffee. My sister got covid-19, she just eat a lot of moringa and no medication plus some good supplement and she got well and she just stay at home. Moringa is the best vegetable in the world, where you plant moringa- no mosquito, i have a pot at home. You can also try sweet potato leaves and saluyot or molukhiya they are also the best vegetables. Japanese are planting saluyot everywhere they see soil. This is awesome! I couldn't sprout the broc seeds for some reason. We have a big tree in Jacksonville, Fl (north FL,doesn't have to be south) and make moringa powder for our smoothies all the time. We have tons of papapaya trees too, also an amazing plant, nutrient dense, the seeds and leaves are medicinal. I make tea from the leaves and use the seeds in smoothies or grind them up and drink them with water. If you don't chew them, they make an excellent gentle laxative. I saw moringa powder at Walmart, wonder if it's one of those bad brands.

Is the myrosenase present in the leaves still stable after drying and powdering, or should the leaves be eaten fresh - to get at the ITC, that is?
@matthiasstarkaudioundvideo8992
@matthiasstarkaudioundvideo8992 3 жыл бұрын
I guess there must be some myrosinase in it, at least in properly dried good quality leaves. I tried to use the same process of preparation as for broccoli: I powder 3 Tablespoons of dried leaves, pour boiling water over half the powder. After this tea is cooled down to 60°C/ 140°F, I stir in the rest of the powder (with the myrosinase in it) an let it react for 10 minutes, then I cool it down to room temperature. After an hour or more there is some slightly sharp taste building up. Though I can't proof it, I'm convinced it should be moringin. At least it helps alot with allergies.

What about getting Stevens-Johnson syndrome from taking moringa?!
@birage9885
@birage9885 4 жыл бұрын
I understand that moringa is high in oxalates, if so, not something one would want to consume much of, sounds like the same issue with turmeric, in which curcumin is extracted and negates the oxalate issue, same thing needs to be done with moringa.
@Crepitom
@Crepitom 4 жыл бұрын
birage No evidence of oxalate being bad for you. Too much could cause kidney stoned, and some nutrients binded to the oxalates are not absorbed. That’s it.
@birage9885
@birage9885 4 жыл бұрын
@@Crepitom It depends how you define 'bad', and how you define 'evidence'. Because of leaky gut, more oxalates are getting into the body, and oxalates have been found in organ tissues and joints, etc. In fact, people who had thyroid issues were shown to have oxalates that caused the problems, evidenced by ultra sound and other methods. And they are 'bad' for you if they accumulate. Consuming proper calcium in the diet will help prevent problems with oxalates, but I think it is still wise to not have a diet high in oxalates, it is just pushing the enevelope. Moringa should be enjoyed in moderation until we know more about how it will affect us.

@@MrAlipatik Yes, that is true, and that would help bind up the oxalates, so moringa probably isn't the worst oxalate food.

@FoundMyFitnessClips
@FoundMyFitnessClips 4 жыл бұрын
Moringin seems pretty interesting! Needs more research, but the overlapping molecular mechanisms sure would seem to suggest you're going to have some substantially similar effects. There's some pretty inexpensive moringa supplements too, though they're not usually marketed for their phytochemical effects (strangely). Kuli Kuli is one such brand.

After seeing the original interview, I went out and found a moringa tree near my home in San Juan, Puerto Rico, brought back some seed pods, so I now have some seedlings growing out of pots at my apartment. Dr. Fahey is right, it's not a pretty tree. Haven't tried eating any yet. Dr. Michael Greger at nutritionfacts.org recommends against moringa, at least temporarily, until he does a video on it.
