Why did you omit the part from Numbers 5:21 that the water would cause the guilty to miscarry? This seems to me like a lie by omission, but maybe there is a good explanation? Edit: he mentions it at 3:44 but I missed it!! I would still read up on sotah ritual. To me this video is more of an apologetic than giving good context.

You are completely right, YHWH wants to abort so called "illegitimate" children, that's the ONLY right way to interpret this passage. Christian HAVE to make up excuses to avoid admitting this FACT. Now we well know that YHWH is a child murderer, F.i. he slaughters 2000 of Egypts firstborn after he himself hardened pharaohs heart. Another example is that he murdered David's son, to punish David. The examples are endless.
@CRoadwarrior

@@Thesortvokter Yeah, and that's why practically NO Hebrew scholars argue for that misinterpretation.....LOL. So the people "making up" excuses are those who don't know Hebrew, never studied it, and who arrogantly think they know what they've never studied in any detail. Please.

@@CRoadwarrior @CRoadwarrior (aka The Christian Road Warrior) my reply isn't showing up for some reason. I replied thanking you for the time stamp but also that there was no to say "you did not bother checking". I did look at the Hebrew. So did the translators of the NIV. So did many who have studied sotah and interpreted it as miscarry. I think there are good arguments that the term does not refer to miscarrying, but I think that is worth discussing. Sorry for the other dude posting toxic stuff. Nothing to do with me :)

The text's here deal with sexual unfaithfulness since there is no indication a her being with child. See Exodus 21, 22 regarding another situation caused by two men fighting causing a pregnant women injury and loss os a child.
@LolaMarie0729
@LolaMarie0729 20 күн бұрын
In Exodus the verse you're referring to is about a married woman who was pregnant by her husband and they wanted the child. In the book of Numbers the husband suspects the wife of being unfaithful which could lead to an unwanted pregnancy and so this test would cause her belly to swell and possibly impact her ability to have children in the future. If this wasn't to induce an abortion I believe the woman's beauty would have been targeted instead. We see men throwing acid in the faces of their wives in hyper religious countries. I don't think much has changed. I believe that Numbers 5:21 describes God inducing a miscarriage on an unwanted pregnancy.

Well…. The text itself it sorta the proof. If u go read the Strong’s original text, it doesn’t talk about a pregnancy or a miscarriage specifically. And the NIV’s reference to miscarry could mean inability to carry a baby to full term in the future, rather than abortion of an existing pregnancy. So his explanation sorta makes sense. I guess that other stuff about this law being protective for women is not so clear directly from the text,…. But it’s plausible.

@@JC-gz9oy It doesn't have to mention abortion (not sure if that word even existed yet) it doesn't mention is because is not required, the idea is if the husband knows or JUST thinks his wife slept with another man then he basically can take her to a priest to have her drink what was obviously something like an abortion pill, weather she was actually pregnant or not is not a qualifier to do it or not, henz why it doesn't mention it.
@JC-gz9oy
@JC-gz9oy 7 ай бұрын
@@Hexsal I’m not sure if it’s “obviously” an abortion pill. To us, in our cultural context, we immediately think of it as an abortion pill. But like u said the context does not involve a pregnancy, only the adultery js mentioned. Later it talks about her ability to conceive if she’s innocent vs becoming a curse to the people…. I think it’s more likely that the potion is intended to rid her of her future fertility (which was a great shame to the women, the impact of which we can’t imagine in our society) as a punishment for adultery, and not just a once off abortion. Whether the potion would have had the side effect of aborting a newly implanted fetus…. I suppose it might be plausible? Something that can damage long term fertility theoretically can abort a fetus… but I feel like the text is not strong enough to support that as the main intent of the ritual.

You need to try to follow logical arguments. Key in this argument is the fact that the listed ingredients would not result in an abortion. Also, the fact that pregnancy is not even mentioned is an excellent point against the potion being an abortifacient. Of course the whole process is mentioned as a test for adultery. It was not to determine pregnancy or a means to kill an unwanted offspring. It is an excellent rebuttal to the "abortion potion" argument if you would just remove your bias.

There is nothing to explore. The Bible does not prohibit abortion, period. Christians in the civil rights era were actually in favor of legalizing abortions. The conservative party intentionally went out of their way to convince religious groups that abortion was anti-christian because they were losing voters in urban areas and needed to capture a more rural base. This explanation does not touch on the Hebrew use of thigh, or the biblical use of between ones thighs, which is often used to refer to in women, well, what is between a woman's legs? What's close to the thigh? Why would her stomach swell in a test for adultery involving diving intervention? Why does the bible use the word bitter? All of this was highly disingenuous, both scripturally and historically...I can elaborate if anyone is further interested.

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Romans 15:13 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love. John 14 14 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Ephesians 3:16-17 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. John 4 1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, 2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) 3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee. 4 And he must needs go through Samaria. 5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. 7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) 9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. 15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. 16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. 17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: 18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. 19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. 25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. 1 Corinthians 15:45 “And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.” Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. 1 John 4:13 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. ROMANS 8:1 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Psalm 82: [6] I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High 7] But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. [8] Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations 1 Corinthians 15: 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive Romans 6:11 “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. John 5 21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will JOHN 6: 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. ROMANS 8: 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 2 CORINTHIANS 3: 6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth

Romans 4 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved . John 12 41These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him. 42Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: 43For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. 44Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. 45And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. 46I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. 47And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. 49For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 50And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. 1 John 2:11 “But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.” 1 John 1 7 But if we should walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. Romans 11:18 “Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Colossians 2:7 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Ephesians 3:17 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, Mark 4:6 6 But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. Romans 11:16 16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. Isaiah 11:10 10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious 2 Corinthians 3 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you? 2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: 3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. 4 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; 6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. 7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: 8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? 9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. 10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. 11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious. 12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: 13 And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: 14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. 15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. 16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. 17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;” Romans 5:12- 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. 15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. 17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. 20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. Galatians 3 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster 2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” Isaiah 54: 17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.

I agree with you on most of what you said, however, if you read v28, and you claim this ritual has nothing to do with failed child birth, (i.e. abortion from God), then v28 wouldn't make any sense to be there. "But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, then she shall be clean and conceive children". This absolutely means the flip will happen if she fails the test. You even said that. Which means she would not be able to conceive children if she failed the test. Even if she became pregnant during the unclean sex (they didn't have pregnancy tests in Moses time). So your argument that the test wasn't performed on pregnant women has more leaks that the Titanic. By the way, where did you figure out that this test wasn't allowed on pregnant women?
