What I usually do is to put these free streaming apps on my iPad, select the TV show or movie, play it and screen mirror them on my Samsung 65 inch smart TV easily and with no loss of sound and picture quality. Based on your recommendation I will start using Plex. For the two years, I used Pluto but the TV shows and movies have not changed much. As I am a regular time share owner for two weeks in Mexico each year, I have used Pluto TV regularly for TV shows, Movies and Music Concerts which I screen mirrored to the 50 inch TV in my Suite. And they are in English while the regular fare in my time share resort is mostly in Spanish. Great free entertainment while on vacation.

Plex has been getting considerable use from me. Sometimes it's just nice to kick-back and watch some of the content I grew up with or check out content I haven't come across elsewhere. They have a ton of channels.

Love my Plex. Besides what you mentioned I hook up my hdhomerun and get local tv channels plus free dvr and Plexamp for my own music library (all the songs I like, none of the 40 million I don’t )

I was hoping you'd mention the search feature, and compare it to other searches. So far in my quest into cord cutting, finding a particular show or movie I want to watch has been the biggest challenge. Fire TV doesn't mention other available sources if they have your searched program, but Plex does, so I get to choose a more preferred source if I'd like. Thanks for all your great reviews, looking forward to discussion about cross-supplier search options. ❤

The lack of an easy to use, all encompassing, "TV Guide" is the biggest barrier to getting my family to switch away from our Dishnet service. They are creatures of habit and, trying to get them to use our Apple TV (box, not service) or even the built in Roku on our two TVs is trying at best. They just want to have a "channel listing" they can scroll through and pick what they want to watch at that point in time. Like TV when only antenna and cable were available. Well, except for movies. Then they are willing to open up Netflix and poke around for a movie to watch., Try as I might, I can't get them to adopt to the literally tens of thousands of other offerings. Including Plex which I too took the Lifetime Pass option a while back and put our collection of more than 400 music CDs on so we could listen to them without having to load and unload a player. I am now adding our smaller collection of movies and shows DVDs. And, I had planned to add my 300 or so vinyl records that date back some 60 years but, burglars took that option away from me. 😞

It does a great job! When I lived in Abu Dhabi, I could go to the US on vacation and still watch the media on my laptop next to my TV back in UAE.

Plex tv is now showing the tv series "Breaking Bad" for the last several days I've been watching it on and off because of work. This pass Friday I turned it on again and for some reason I am not able to watch it anymore. The APP is on the Roku and I'm not sure why I am not able to watch the channel that Breaking Bad is playing. I can watch every other channel but not that one. Does anyone know why or have a solution?

Plex is without a doubt number one on the scene right now. They are now up to 466 channels. The on demand depth is as good as it gets. The only thing they don't have that Tubi and Roku channel does is originals, but my guess is they are probably coming eventually.

Seems like a lot of "old" content & reruns? What about local channels? I want to get an antennae for local channels, possibly go through HD Home Run, and record my show series just like I do on Spectrum. Can you offer a webcast in how to set this up with Plex? Apparently, I have to pay $5 month for the guide to be able to record on the HD Home Run but if there recording is just like FUBO TV or Specturm I am golden. I want to run from FUBO TV since all I watch is local channel recordings and they have gone up stating that sports channels cost more. So, take sports channels off and they say others want it. I don't mind having it but I don't want to pay for something i don't watch. A podcast on how to setup free locals national TV, record like FUBO or Spectrum would be wonderful. Thanks

it's tough watching a movie on Plex however... 5 minutes of movie, 3 minutes of commercials, repeat. The commercials always have streaming issues and freeze frequently. The seconds lost when frozen accumulate so that the endings of movies are cut off because another film is timed in the queue to start. :-/

The personal media library feature of Plex is 99% of my use for Plex. After several weeks of adding my content and customizing Plex I purchased a Lifetime Plex Pass. I sincerely hope that they maintain and hopefully expand this feature. I have on occasion explored what Plex offers on their "free TV" channels. I did watch a few movies. I've also explored their new "Discover" feature to find content that is provided by other services and put several on my Plex "Watchlist." I hope the folks at Plex don't overestimate their growth potential. I'd hate to see Plex go the way of LoCast.

Don't forget that you can make your own PLEX server for hosting your own content (movies, videos, photos, music) and be able to stream that content anywhere. You can also add other users, like your family and friends, to give them access to it as well.

A lot of the movies for me say “ add to watchlist “ but when I was using my friends account ( who I’m no longer in contact with ) all her movies were available….. what do I do 😭 I pay for it monthly as well

As a media manager/server it’s pretty temperamental - my servers spend more time offline than on. The FAST side of it generally works just fine, though, and it does offer the ability to easily add stuff to watchlists.

I’ve never had a problem with the media server since I made sure configuration is correct. You must have an issue with either your config, router, or firewall.

@@FlamencoOz I've been using Plex almost since it began. It's none of those things. Near as we can figure it out, I've actually managed to crock the database by having a plethora of very dense libraries. Now when I add media the software goes into a coma. It's not crashing (well, anymore), just unavailable while doing all the processing. Turning off detect intro/credits and sonic analysis can help. I'm probably going to need to get gruntier hardware. Or delete about 50k albums.

Yes Plex has interesting contents, but their app is horribly malfunctional, it's almost unusable let alone the unbearable influx of ads you will encounter with every show or movie , tubi is clearly a better pick

There are two websites out there (that I know of) that can help you locate specific content on the various streaming outlets that exist. One is Decider. The other is JustWatch.
