Crash helmet mirrors, as jokingly/notjokingly suggested by @thighsclub Alex Dowsett, at TDU 2020. This just before Alex's teamate Ben, whom he had been discussing this with, smashed his shoulder up in a crash on the next stage.

When featherweight bikes and riders that blow away in a gust of wind are occuring, you have a HUGE safety issue. Not to mention pushing athletes into doping so they can get their 'incremental gains' that translate into cash for the teams. With their staff of ex-riders GCN could be a great instrument in exposing this...

I swear the roundabouts and traffic medians that come out of nowhere seem to be a nightmare for the pro races. Everyone narrowing down to half the road width, if someone isn't paying attention there, and it's near the end of a race, seems an avoidable danger. Stops the teams from sprinting to the corners and obstacles too, thus extending the danger zones. There's also more on the line for races now, winning could mean a bigger contract, losing could mean you're home eating cinnamon toast crunch watching the race on tv.

The trouble with Ollies hour record run is you and most "cyclists" are forgetting about the way the greats rode long ago. Getting lost in training and numbers, 20 miles in the back room on zwift and all of them never replace the real thing to build absolute strength and endurance. Biggest danger is inviting and letting another non UCI world tour teams on pro peleton. They lack experience and close quarter riding with a bunch over 150 riders. One small mistake and boom, 20+ riders down.
@GC_4204 жыл бұрын
That is an excellent point. I would add on to that with allowing over zealous fans too close to riders being another issue UCI needs to address.
@oneiilldashuffler4 жыл бұрын
@@GC_420 I think they are trying but can't enforce it. You can always put a limited amount of safety rails. But that won't hold them. Plus a stage over 100km and open roads and on top of that like a race of 20 stages, imagine logistics and assembly... Highly unlikely anything will change for now. Sadly :(

Lighter / aero bikes means faster riders means more potential dangerous situations. Spectators taking more risk trying get that exclusive shot their internet / social media pages. Riders becoming leaner so less fat means their bodies become more prone to the dangers / consequences of impact.

Remove the computers from the bikes, ride soley on feel alone and never looking at a screen. I’d allow power meters to be used but the data not seen until after the race when it could be downloaded and used as a plan. Give everyone a radio to communicate, that can also be overridden by race control as in the case of the road blockage during the last TDF.

Gcn you read my mind with the headline news there about the crashes. I had been watching Dan give the race recaps this week of tdu and the San Juan race and I was thinking someone could create a cut and paste of all those crashes and Dan's different reactions 'oooo, ehhh' etc, and it would make a great case to not race your bike. Personally, still timid from a crash last May, I'm really not sure about putting myself into this dangerous sport. Good summary guys: race organizers should do better to cut down on the crashes. The little footage of San Juan, gave me the instant impression that it's a dangerous place to race. It just seems more disorderly than the typical European racing that I see.
