Soul Master is up there with Hornet, Mantis Lords and Dung Defender for one of my favourite fights in the game, mostly for the reasons that you described - it feels like you're dancing with them, making split-second decisions and countering with your own attacks. You've already gone over most of his move set and the fight itself, so I'd like to talk about aesthetics instead. When you enter Soul Sanctum, chances are that you've spent quite a while in City of Tears already, venturing through the crumbling buildings and sad blue walls all while rain and beautiful yet mournful music act as background noise. At a first glance, the Sanctum is no different - same rain, same ornaments and building structure, but something is wrong. A strange, twisted version of the main City of Tears theme plays in the background. The bugs here are more powerful and seem more tactical than the simple husks wandering the city - their jumping and charging is replaced by teleportation and strange orbs that looks like corrupted versions of Aspid spit. Forsaken spirits crawl around, hankering for release, and mysterious glasses jars full of something that you previously thought only you and the snail shamans could employ - Soul - litter the place, making you question what the true purpose of this area was. And as you crawl past the Scholars and ghosts, climbing up ruined walls and darting past strange mechanisms, you find a certain antechamber. The music swells into a glorious, horribly twisted and urgent version of the City of Tears theme as Soul Master rises from the background, and the fight begins. As both the music and the fight reach their crescendo, you really get the impression that you aren't just fighting some simple infected creature or cowardly maggot, but neither are you fighting someone with their sanity still intact like Hornet or the Lords before you, but a mad zealot who stopped at nothing to achieve his dark dreams. And as the fight enters Phase 2, you get to see the full extent of his cruelty and power - tens, if not hundreds of corpses litter the floor of the room. And so when you finally defeat him, put him into the ground for good, only one question lingers in your mind: At what cost? nah I'm kidding the first instinct of most people to go slam the crumbling floor for Crystal Peaks because it sounded funny

there is a 5th level to the dash, when you jump past him and do a sideways nail swing to his back followed by a fireball , which multihits (sometimes even 3x, if you get the right timing and positioning) giving you insane damage.

Nice analysis. And thanks for putting words to my frustration concerning the collision stuff. So many of my Broken Vessel and Lost Kin fights have been lost because I'm too slow to get out of the way of those big jumps:)

Thanks a lot for the kind words, Henrik! Man, those damn jumps... I don't think that's you being too slow at all, they're just not very well designed :'=) Thanks for the comment!

@@the_holland The way I see it is that you need to be aware of the jumps and play slightly more grounded than normal. Works for me and feels right (imo). Sorry if this seems argumentative or rude, I do not intend to be
@the_holland3 ай бұрын
@@devilsblade2543 No no, not at all, Devil! I'm so glad you threw in your two cents, and it didn't seem rude whatsoever :D I agree with you, and it's exactly what I do as well! It just also feels a bit weird that you have to preemptively know NEVER to be in the air when fighting a boss like Broken Vessel. So it's true, you can play more grounded and (almost) never get caught with your pants down, but still it seems like there's a piece of the puzzle missing - such as a telegraph before a jump. Thanks for chiming in!

5:50 secret level of response to his dash! (or what I ended up doing for a good amount of my first playthroughs) Level 3.5: you jump over his dash without pogo-ing, and follow by shooting a shade soul in the same direction as his dash, managing to hit him 1-3 times depending on how quickly you reacted and got behind him.

You can also use a vengeful spirit on the dash atack after one pogo , hiting him 1-3 times with it
@the_holland3 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, that makes a lot of sense! Because they would be travelling in the same direction, then?
@philipkoch75703 ай бұрын
@@the_holland yeah exactly, aslong as bosses move the same way as your vengeful spirit or take high knockback (like hive knight or moss charger) you can multihit them, especially with shaman stone, as it increases the hitboxs

I am amazed by the difficulty of the fight. It is so easy but so fun at the same time! When I got to Soul Tyrant, I was completely unprepared with my charms:I had compass and grimmichild, maybe something else but I forgot. And I beat him. In ~5 attempts. Despite all these incredible fast teleportations, the boss still gave me time to heal (it was during the attack I never knew how to dodge, the 6 soul balls). Also, I accidentally copied Soul tyrant in second phase, I spammed ddark lol.
