I grew up on the sands of Southwick, sand comes natural for me. Jeffery says anyone can ride hard pack, I struggle on hard pack tracks, it takes some time for me to get used to them.

Shoutout to RV for goinng and doing something he wasn’t comfortable with, herlings is a master rider at that stuff and rides it year round…tomac rides technical supercross like it’s nobodies business, it’d be nice to see some of these mxgp stars race an sx track so the world could better understand how different it is…think TG243 at monster cup, he looked good but his settings don’t work for sx and crashed out.

Man, been to Lommel couple times and I remember one day, Jeffery on a 250 and was doing 45min motos and Evgeny Bobryshev (he was top guy in GP at the moment) came on a factory Honda 450 and was doing 20min sprints. Guess what? Jeffery was lapping the guy in 20min. Not to mention he did like 3 45min motos.

RV smoked everyone on a 250 in MXDN in 2007. Cairolli and other greats were on 450s.

You're right, I was there, but you can't deny the Americans total dominance in those days to now, 2018 Red Bud being the best example. Euros have stepped up, and I don't think our top guys are serial killers like RC, JS and Poto were.... My $.02

@@ChupacabraOffroad I don't honestly think its as much Mxgp riders have stepped up as much as Americans just aren't as good as they were 10 years ago. A lot of the current 450 riders are getting beat by Ryan Dungey who's been retired for 6 years. A lot of those riders was dominated by Dungey in 15 and 16. Not a huge Dungey fan by any means but Dungey was never known for his speed yet can still run with guys 6 years later. Just shows maybe the competition in America isn't quite as good as some hype it up. On top of that the best Americans don't ever want to race denations. Now this could all change in a few years because there are a ton of good amateurs moving up in the next couple years

Seems like the sponsors, riders etc just don't care about MXoN like they did, if we aren't winning, not sure how we change that.

@@ChupacabraOffroad I've heard rumors Roger Decoster is a huge reason why teams don't do denations. Kawasaki a few years ago flat out said we won't do another denations until Roger is replaced. I'm sure star Yamaha isn't happy with Roger stealing their riders either. Be very interesting to see when he's not team manager if riders want to do denations again

Dude sand is a different game. I'm a decent C rider but I'm good in sand and whoops. I was in the Oregon dunes with some friends who are both A class and through the sand whoops I was faster than all but one of them. We had a group of 8 guys and 3 were pro class one almost made it to the big time pros and he was the only one who best me through the sand whoops and trails there. It's just a different style.

Dude gets hurt getting out of bed, he may be fast but I would put Tomac on the Geico 450 up against him anyday. Herlings is faster now I would say but Tomac's Championships say all that need to be said. Besides Herlings is a one series wonder the US riders are experts in 2 different disciplines of dirtbike racing.

Exactly, I wish more people understand that. US riders only ride moto from 2 weeks before the MX season starts and stop the day its over. All other time, probably 8 months is spent on SX. GP riders should be faster in the sand and moto. I'd love to see herlings line up for A1 one year, would never happen though, he's smarter than that.

Herlings should focus on competing in his own series from beginning to end instead of destroying himself every other season. Villopoto whooped up on the Euro's at the Nations a couple times including overall on a 250! Villopoto has nothing to prove. 4 time SX champ and 2 time MX champ.

Excellent interview Jace. I’m really impressed with Herlings not just as an overall rider but with his character and command of English as a second language. He really flows and is great at giving credit where he sees it is due. I for one will pay good money to watch JH and ET go head to head. To bring out the best of each rider it should be a neutral track not a Lommel or complete hard pack. South wick or Spring Creek? Keep up the great work this was a very entertaining and enlightening session. I’ve been a fan of the sport since 1976 and am still fascinated by the improvements of these incredible athletes. Thanks 🙏
