2022 Mazda MX-5 RF Grand Touring owner here. If you can fit in the car and live with the storage and comfort compromises, this car is perfect. It's 80 degrees outside. Blue sky and puffy clouds. Perfect weather. Just went for a drive, top down, winding roads, all of the stress from work and life melts away with every short shift, redline run, and tight corner. For 35 years, Mazda has made the perfect sports car. And I daily drive mine, snow tires in the winter, and no issues at all. If you enjoy driving, if you consider yourself a car nut, you need one, new or used, doesn't matter. And you'll have a smile on your face with each top down drive. And I already asked my Mazda service manager...bad news...the 2024 infotainment system can't be retrofit into the ND1 and ND2 models. Oh well...

@PerryPapanier I know...I know! The system in our Mazda had to be designed and first built around 2015, and that makes it ancient. H And waiting 45+ seconds to boot up, detect my Samsung, activate AA, and start with music and maps on a daily driver...first world problems! It isn't the screen size that bothers me. It's the bad lag and slowness.

Mazda 2 ‘16 daily driver here (with the same infotainment as a MX-5 Miata ‘16 - ‘23). Just use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto? And if I’m not mistaken your dealer will update the infotainment when you come in for a service. Mine starts up in like 20 sec. and after that you just start using Apple CarPlay which works flawlessly (same as in my Focus ST ‘17)?

One of the best little sports cars ever made. It's not about the horsepower. It's driving dynamics reliability and styling. I don't think you can race a Corvette with this car but having a wonderful spirited drive though the canyons is where it's at. 81 Years old...finally got my second Miata, the first being a new 2004 M'Speed. Sold it a few years later with only 15 K miles...fun car but a bit tight. Bough a C 5 Corvette...Sold it 11 years ago, bought several turbo hot hatches, the last being a 2019 Civic Si coupe. Fun car, have had it 5 years, but Miata kept calling my name. Just drove back to DFW Texas area from Oklahoma City where I purchased a new ND3 Club. Most fun you can have behind the wheel, or in any car with clothes on. I still do SCCA and other club autocross events, and the Miatas have always been really popular in various classes. I did well with the Civic Si, hope to continue with the new MX 5 Club...

I am trying to understand if anyone has experience with long-distance driving in the Mazda Miata. How does it perform on long drives? Is it comfortable? Can you recline the seat, stretch while sitting in the car, and grab a drink or a burger without having to get out? Also how does the soft top suit colder climates, where temperatures touch close to zero or sub zero?

So I'm itchy to get another one even tho I wasn't surprised because I've been wanting an ND for a while now even before i gotten my NA, and now with this newly updated ND3 it will be my only miata forever. It'll be a secondary vehicle for me when I'm out enjoying the roads. I highly recommend that a Mx-5 Miata should always be a better source as a secondary vehicle. Your 1st car should just be about getting you from point A to B and ofc practical with more room than a Miata for your daily uses.

I love that Mazda continuously improves the Miata with updates every few years. With the extra long life cycle that this car has, these updates keep the car relevant and desirable, even 9 years on. I owned a early ND2 for a couple years and I still regret selling that little gem. I will definitely be picking up a ND3 before it goes away. I'm not necessarily against a hybrid Miata, but I think this ND3 is the pinnacle of what the Miata can be, if sports car purity is what you're into. It's light and nimble, naturally aspirated, RWD, manual transmission, easy canvas top, inexpensive... it doesn't get any better.

Hands down one of the most fun, easy to own, reliable, focused, sports cars on the market. And its easy on the bank account. You really need to understand that there is almost nothing else that checks all these boxes other than a Subie BRZ. Anyone who has actually put real seat time in one understands. I was lucky to have a chance to run an ND2 Club around the Nurbergring on a Tourist day and it was bliss. The shifter is brilliant. Heel toe placement of the pedals is near perfect. And you can break the rear loose if and when you want. Thank you Mazda!

Easy on the bank account? This same Miata in the video would be around $40k out the door 😂
@devilsadvocate25482 ай бұрын
@@worst-hd-player don't forget it is more than just about the purchase price. When it comes to running costs the MX5 is easily one of the most easy sports cars on the bank account. It's so light it doesn't chew through tyres and brakes very quickly, even on track days etc. When you need to replace tyres they are cheap. Being only a 2L 4cyl it doesn't drink a lot of fuel (relatively), even when thrashing the daylights out it. Being a mainstream brand it doesn't cost a lot to service. Being a simple car with no turbos etc you won't be spending a lot on repairs down the track because it is so reliable and easy to work on. Still being an only $40,000 car, it doesn't cost a lot (relatively) to insure. So yes, taking ownership factors/running costs in to consideration it definitely is easy on the bank account for such a dedicated sports car. There aren't many dedicated sports cars out there that are as cheap to run.

Yes, if they're soft. There's a carved-out "well" in the trunk that is somewhat deep. To compare, you can easily fit 2-24 packs of bottled water or 5-12 packs of soda side by side with room on top. I purchased a new REI large soft-sided duffel bag just for use in that car because it fit, and backpacks and another carryon will fit. The plastic tray that holds the tire inflation kit and owner's manual does get in the way. Don't try a hard-sided suitcase - the opening is too small. And I've seen luggage sold online made just to fit in MX-5 trunks.

The antenna kills me on that thing. There's gotta be a better way to have an antenna that isn't sticking out randomly on the side like its 1999 lol.

Love my '22 RF and you can rev the crap out of it. You can't drive this without a big smile on your face. Thanks for the review.

I’m on my fourth Miata. While this car was not really meant for long distance driving, it can certainly be done and, if you’re smart about it, done rather well: • The MX-5 definitely prefers curvy 2-lane backroads over long stretches of flat, straight interstates! It’s on a twisty 2-lane that the car comes alive and is in its element. Sure, she will drone down the interstate all day without complaining, but clearly that’s not where the car really wants to be. • It really helps to simply plan on making frequent little stops, say every couple of hours, to just get out, walk around and stretch for a few minutes. That said, the seats are quite comfortable, and the driving position is good. • On the interstates, noise can be fatiguing. Many MX-5 owners use earplugs or even noise-cancelling headphones to reduce or eliminate “the drone”. And noise is not an issue below 50 mph or so. Some diehards like it, but most of us don’t recommend driving top down at interstate speeds. Too windy, too noisy and too tiring. • Soft-sided luggage is your friend. Even consider duffel bags over carry-ons. • There’s not much spare room in the cabin. The two detachable cup holders work well, and you could conceivably fit a 6-pack of Coke on the passenger side floor under your passenger’s legs, but no, most “stuff” will have to go in the trunk. • The soft top is superb (as is the RF version); either work great in even the coldest climates, and the powerful heater (and heated seats) can warm up the tiny cabin in record time. Put a set of winter tires on around Thanksgiving and the little car, with its perfectly balanced 50/50 weight distribution, is virtually unstoppable in winter, in up to about 6” of snow. Yes, you will find yourself easily driving past spun out SUVs and CUVs on the side of the road! If you keep these things in mind, the Miata can be a fun and competent long-distance companion.

I just wish MAZDA would combine the direct injection with port injection to keep the intake valves clean. Why don't they add that? Its makes so much sense to do it. If one does purchase an MX5, one should buy a cat-back exhaust. It suits the car's personality!

A good competition to these vehicles is the S2000. Right now they're ranging about the same price though in mint condition.
