My point still stands, there are vets in the game, yes there are more youngsters. But the vets don't care either, it's not like this problem started this year. The Allstar game has been shit for years already. Giannis, Lebron, Currie, Lillard, Durant, Anthony Davis, Paul George, Kawhi all are veteran players.
@_calvinkao

The league valued all the younger players while pushing the vets out. Need vets in the locker room and create a pathway for the younger players and keep em in check. UD was important to the Heat and even retired players mentioned how having vets helped them in their career. There is hardly anyone the younger players can relate to since the oldest player is probably a couple years older.

Part of the problem is the media and fans have made it so only rings matter. Players do compete hard…in the playoffs where they feel it matters. That’s the natural progression of making all the other accolades irrelevant.
@neiko9251

Lebron started it. He was/is the face of the NBA. He was one of the first guys to star hee/hawing with opposing benches before games on a regular basis. The only time you saw that back in the day was if they’re was high profile rivalry and the cameras (NBA) wanted to see chatter before the game like Magic and Bird talking, or MJ and Shaq. If you look at many games from the early 90’s to the early 2000’s players would scowl at opposing benches, talk shit, keep to themselves, and concentrate on shoot arounds, now pre-games look like mini parties before tip off..Lebron and the 03’ class destroyed the dog-like competition in the league and made it more of a show and nothing mattered until the playoffs.

The NBA isn’t even producing half-baked stars anymore, they’re all microwaveable. No prep, no process, no trial & error, no ‘add sauce to taste’, just pop it in the microwave for 2 seasons and bam, instant superstar. Perfect example is Jalen Green, drafted and handed the keys immediately, yet anyone who watched the Rockets instantly knew Sengun was better. The only ppl who still think he’s better than Sengun only watch highlights.

@@09lowkey I think Jalen Green is a byproduct of AAU which i think KG has mentioned in an interview that it is a wasteland for cultivating young talent in the US. Compared to Europe culture, there's a process, growth, maturity. You have a point here.

@@carlosmontecillo9207 Precisely, the AAU pipeline spoils the kids before they graduate High School, they have talent but they don’t think the game. They adapt what they do in skill developing drills into games and it looks nice, but it’s devoid of application related to basketball IQ. Most of them can do all the moves but lack understanding of the game and the ability to simplify things to make them most effective. It’s more effective & efficient to score in 2 dribbles than to score in 7, most kids would ask what’s the difference.

Valid points sir. There is a systemic problem with the way they develop kids in AAU.

The problem started when players stopped playing for the love of the game. It's still possible to both play for the money and for the love of the game. That all star game was disrepectful to the game of basketball.

They be scared to get embarrassed instead of just hoopin. What these new all stars been doing the past couple of years hurts the integrity of the game. First half should be for fans, 2nd half its time for real ballin.

Paul Pierce said the exact point as to why players don't go all out in the All Star game anymore. Once All Star weekend takes place, its vacation for those who are playing in the game and even for those who aren't playing the game, its a 3-day vacation/break for the players. Players aren't going to go all out if there is no real competition involved because players dont see All Star weekend as competitive anymore. So why continue to have these All Star games when players dont see it as something that is competitive, they just see it as a 3-day break/vacation, which is similar to the NFL Pro Bowl. The NFL just completely got rid of the Pro Bowl because players, didnt see the Pro Bowl as competition, they saw Hawaii, and Honolulu as a vacation spot, so the Pro Bowl and the effort in the Pro Bowl got so bad over the last 6-7 years that the NFL finally said we are getting rid of this game all together since the players dont seem to care anymore. I think the NBA will eventually get to that point where they will just scrap the NBA All Star game all together because the players dont care about it anymore, and they dont see it as competition, once that competitive spirit comes back (which it wont), then things will change. Until then, we will continue to see in future All Star games what we saw this year in 2024

To me, the peak of any sports era in US history was the NBA in 80's and 90''s. For about a 15 year stretch, it was must see TV. Baseball fans will chime in with their opinion and I'll admit the NFL is on a great streak, but unless you lived during those times its hard to understand how huge just the Bulls/Knicks playoffs were.

They were spot on in this video. The players nowadays aren't influenced by the money and the few that are don't play enough in the actual all-star game so they just do what everyone else does go out there and give no effort. It needs to start with the top players the starters Luka and Jokic don't care about the all-star game that already sends the wrong message to everyone else, so i think they shouldn't start or they can start but if they out there bullsh*tting they barely get any minutes. Some young allstars are going to have to step up and set the tone for the all-star game to be played seriously on both ends to a degree. It could be Ant, Bam, Giannis, Tatum, SGA, Mitchell whoever
