The 800V battery architecture means even though the range isn't as good as some rivals, it charges REALLY fast on a 350kW DC fast charger.

Note on your comment regarding regen: If you hold the right paddle for 3 seconds, Regen goes into "Auto" mode. This adds half steps between the user selected regen method. It also will automatically adjust the amount of Regen to traffic conditions and give a much smoother and integrated feel.

In my first year with my Ioniq 5 AWD LImited, I put 19,500 miles on it of which 11,000+ were out-of-state travel. Without question, it's the best road car that I've owned in the last 50 years of going down the road. It's quiet, comfortable and the HD2 takes a lot of the stress out of driving. True enough, the Tesla Supercharger network is far superior to the CCS hodgepodge. It takes more planning to do CCS road trips, but my 5 makes it worth the effort. Besides, its fun to pull in to charge in places where the superchargers are next to CCS (such as Tallahassee), plug in, charge up and leave while the Teslas that got there ahead of me are still charging.

My 2023 Ioniq 5 Limited AWD is EPA rated at 266 miles. I make trips from Baltimore to New York often. Try to keep the speed around 60. On a full charge at 100%, I could make it to New York with 75-80 miles of range left. I was told that if you do over 65, you could get about 240-250 range. This is equivalent to about 45-50 miles of range remaining. This bus awesome !!!

If CCS charging were reliable, the Ioniq 5 would smoke everything in its class.

My 2023 RWD Ioniq 5 only gets 265 miles on a full charge if I drive at 70 mph, pretty much the speed limit on a road trip.

I wish manufacturers would have to give city and highway range rather than the combined number

Tomorrow my 2023 Ioniq 5 goes to a broker, after 7 months of no Fast DC charging they finally fixed it, love the car (but very bad warranty experience and I have soured on owning it) but here in Canada there is no support for CCS charging, on the VW Diesel Gate the federal government did little to nothing on insuring that VW's Electrify Canada was rolled out on our only one major route from east to west the Trans Canada Highway (they love to coddle with big corporations as they are giving VW billions of $ of our taxpayer money for their new Ontario battery plant but little to nothing for consumers other than a small rebate on new low cost EV's), currently EC has only BC to Calgary, AB then a wasteland till well into Ontario. They subscribed to Petro Canada for their version of Electric Highway and many stations are either down (The company even admitted they failed miserably but then they doubled their charging price), limited to 35KW during colder weather or complete outages on some stations that are 100+KM apart, and maybe one station operational, absolutely not acceptable! So on Sunday I pickup a 2023 Tesla Model Y AWD, we look forward to many road trips ahead and maybe in 5 years Canada will maybe, just maybe have the CCS DC charging acceptable for none Tesla cars to do a reliable coast to coast trip, simply hopeless. I will miss what may have been the best EV I have ever had, oh well I'll settle for Model Y as I can depend on their Superchargers working 99.5% of the time.

I actually just got rid of my Polestar and got a model 3. It’s hard to beat the supercharger reliability.

A lot of what you say about the charge network here in Canada is true but in reality we have not experienced it being so horrible. We put 48000km on our Kona EV Ultimate trim in 10 months...so lots of road trips. Both in Canada and US. Our Ioniq5 AWD Ultimate now (8 weeks and 9000km) is amzing. I will totally agree with you that Petro Canada Charging network is the worst! 😂 In any case, we travel a lot, in 8 weeks we are leaving on a 14000km cross country trip over 6 weeks with the Ioniq5 and are really looking forward to it. Yes the Tesla charging network is the best, no doubt about it but I cannot say I want a Tesla. My neighbour has a very nice Model 3, to be honest after driving that compared to the Ioniq, no contest, Ioniq comes out on top - for me. But we all have different needs, wants, etc., so I get it...what is important is that we get EV's out there. Charging network will catch up...just a matter of time.

The Model Y dual motor long range is now $52,000. And you get an incredible infotainment and navigation system, but more importantly the Tesla Supercharging System, which is the only reliable fast charging system in the US. ... And a little digression. Tesla is making over $9,000 profit/car, while Ford is losing $30,000 per EV. No one else is making money on their EVs except BYD and Porsche. Ford hopes to be making 8% profit margin in 2026, but Tesla is not standing still and is continuing to drive their costs down, and their prices as well. It costs Lucid and Rivian about $200,000/EV. None of this bodes well for EV makers. Not all of them will go out of business, but I know Tesla will be around.

Any car that depends on the awful CCS charging system in the US is not the best road trip EV.
