He makes several good points about the legitimacy of the Gospel story. One I like is the fact that the first witnesses to the resurrection are WOMEN - this is at a time when women were not even legally allowed to testify in court - basically, women were considered disqualified to serve as witnesses for ANYTHING. If the Gospel writers were making the story up, then there's no way that they would have CHOSEN to present women as the first witnesses to the resurrection - the only logical explanation for Mary being presented as the first witness, the first to speak with Jesus following his resurrection, is that...it's true, that's the way it happened.

These things bear out that these folks existed and the non-magical human level story contains some historical truth. But this does not refute that the story has magical myths added into it too. Narratives get embroidered. That's always why history needs direct evidence for each specific narrated event.

@Papalopie
@Papalopie 2 жыл бұрын
@@blackhokage1744 Here's the several issues with what you said. -"It's not real" -"There's no evidence he died" What's not real? Are you saying Jesus wasn't a person? Well, there's an issue with that. Here is a list of Secular, Atheistic Scholars and Historians who agree the consensus is that Jesus Christ was a real person. Graham Stanton, George Wells, Bart D Ehrman, Robert E Van Voorst, Robert M. Price, Michael Grant, Maurice Casey, Mark Allan Powell, James L. Houlden, James Dunn. The majority of consensus is that Jesus was real. Whether or not he was the son of God is the only aspect of his existence that is up for debate. There's historical records of Pontius Pilate's existence, and the execution of Jesus, which was documented and commented on by a secular Roman Historian, Publius Cornelius Tacitus who claimed "Chrestus / Christ was executed by Pontius Pilate". So yes, Jesus did die for what he believed in, atonement for our sins. When the Bible says Jesus died for your sins, what this means the SINS OF HUMANITY as a COLLECTIVE. Because we are all accountable for eachother. Accountable for eachother's actions, Accountable for eachother's safety. You can't sit there and pretend you've never lied, lusted over another man's wife, lusted over another woman while in a relationship, stolen, cheated, gossiped about another person. Furthermore, Jesus' death on the cross was not to prevent sin. But to pay the wages for sin we have little to no control over, that God is obligated by his own admission to impose upon us, otherwise he wouldn't be perfect. You are a sinner. Every time a child dies of hunger. Every time a person gets shot in an alley. Every time someone gets executed by the cartel. Every time A man beats his wife and children. Every time someone shoots someone robbing a store. Every time someone steals from another person. Every time a young child's life is taken by some unfortunate circumstance, it is a sin of humanity, that we did nothing to prevent this. Sitting behind our phones and computers. You can pretend all you want that God doesn't exist and that we are just monkeys, that's on you. But then you are adhering to the idea that evil does not exist, and it is simply a perception. YES, sin is real. And yes, Jesus died upholding the commandments. The only man who ever could.

@@blackhokage1744 " the letter J was invented 400 yrs ago, so how did a Jesus died 2000 yrs ago?" Jesus' original name was Yeshua. It wasn't originally Jesus. Many people still call him Yeshua. "all the secular people u r referencing are forge documents" This is an immature, baseless opinion. You're wrong. Very, very wrong. You're making this up as you go, and that's silly lol. If you think you can debunk every scholar I've mentioned, all I'm going to do is laugh as you try. These are college educated historians. Unlike you, who are just an uneducated person, with a very poor perspective. I don't think you're well versed in history. All of Israel knew about Jesus, all of Rome, and all of Syria. By 300 AD. If you're asking why Jesus wasn't popular during the 30 years he was on earth, it's because historically he was incognito. Quite literally concealing his identity so that he could finish his work, because the Pharisees were actively trying to kill him. You clearly don't know enough about history OR the bible to scrutinize it properly. There's 500,000 fragmented manuscripts and epistles that comprised the first Biblical Codex, and over 20 relatively contemporary Roman and Syrian Historians and Political figures that attested to Jesus' existence and his miracles at the time, so yes, plenty, plenty of evidence. Plenty. It's merely your unfounded, baseless opinion that there's no evidence. And how do you know Jesus isn't in the process of revealing himself? To prove the existence of God 100% would disrupt the purpose of having faith to begin with. So no, Jesus should not definitely prove he exists on a massive, universal scale. At least, not yet. " how does n*iling a man to a cross save mankind from sin" Because the God of the Old Testament demands blood to pay the wages for sin. In the Old Testament, and in history, the Jewish people had to sacrifice a blood atonement for our evil deeds. So Jesus symbolically sacrificed his blood instead. You can deny God exists, and you can deny sin exists, that's your prerogative, I don't care. But Jesus was a historical person. All secular scholars who aren't even Christians agree he was a historical, political figure. THAT is not up for debate. Period.

One mocks the fact that people believe in things that are not only totally absurd but that are without a scrap of sourced corroborated record, they are without verifiable, irrefutable, undeniable indisputable, conclusive evidence, gods in over 6000 years have never been able to be verified to existed, for over 6,000 years people have been attempting to argue them into existence, and every arguement put forward (has in most cases very quickly) been thoroughly discreditted, if anyone had evidenced a god to exist it would be common knowledge, there would be no such thing as god belief systems because the evidence would be there that was Irrefutable, undeniable, indisputable, empirical,and conclusively unfalsifiable, there would not be god believers or unbelievers. @Jared-Cruz
@Jared-Cruz 4 жыл бұрын
@@jacoblee5796 Hey Jacob. I appreciate you asking questions and being open to have a conversation. Faith is an integral part of the Christian life, but I also believe that there is tremendous historical evidence that factually backs up everything that the New Testament and Gospels have to say. Here's just a few examples. To date, we have in our possession approximately 5,800 copies/fragments of the New Testament in the original Koine Greek. Of these 5800 copies. about 250 copies date within 500 years of the original documents, and a handful of them date within 100 years of the life of Jesus. For example,. we know from extrabiblical sources (historical sources outside of the Bible) that Jesus died in 33 A.D. There was recently discovered a fragment of the Gospel of John (P52) that is dated to be as early as 125 AD, within 100 years of Jesus' life. Keep in mind, P52 is a copy of John, so that means that the original Gospel account was written earlier than 125 AD. The same can be said of the other 3 Gospels and the rest of the New Testament. The idea that the NT was written long after the life of Jesus or that the Gospels were written hundreds of years after the fact are just not historically accurate. There's strong evidence to back what the New Testament says about the death and resurrection of Jesus as well. We know that Jesus was a real man who lived 2,000 years ago. This is a fact of history. We also know that this man Jesus died by Roman crucifixion in AD 33. All 4 Gospels record His death by crucifixion, but set aside what the Bible says, extrabiblical sources of the 1st century corroborate this and also record Jesus' death on the cross, and that He was killed because of His claims to be God. Atheist historians openly agree that Jesus was a real man who really died on a Roman cross. You can look into a book called The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus by Gary Habermas that delves into this in much greater detail. One last thing that I will say is that if we know that Jesus historically existed, and that He historically died on the cross, then the last question is, "Did He Rise from the dead?" If we can answer this question, then that will determine if Christianity is true. The Christian faith hangs on this one single question. The early followers of Jesus claimed that there was an empty tomb, and they were ready and willing to literally give up their lives defending this claim. The early church had zero motive to put their lives on the line for something of such importance to them if it had not happened. But if Jesus really did rise from the dead, and the disciples saw it with their own eyes, that would explain why they were so convinced that He was God and consequently traveled the world to spread the news and ultimately die for their conviction. They simply had nothing to gain if it was all folklore and legend. I know that was a lot, and there's more I could say lol, but I'll leave it there for now. If you wanna chat more I would be more than happy. Thanks Jacob.

Lol at the scoffers who think themselves wise, of course the biblical message is foolish because god intended it to be that way, so as to mock the self proclaimed wise of the world. Just because it is foolish doesn't mean it isn't true. 1 Corinthians 1:18-21 "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” 20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

@@JamesRichardWiley Why would Jesus's prophecy about the gentile control of Jerusalem and the rebirth of Jewish control of Jerusalem, come to fulfillment in our time, if he said he himself would return in his own generation? Why would he say that the end wouldn't come before his gospel was preached in all the world, which is happening right now through internet, if he supposedly was to come in his own generation? You have misunderstood what Jesus meant about "This generation". Jesus proved that he knows all, can all, and is the only truth, by rising from the dead. The evidence for his resurrection is staggering and convincing for those who really seeks the truth. Since we know Jesus rose from the dead based on compelling evidence, then I can say 100% you have misunderstood what Jesus meant about "This generation will not pass away, until all is fulfilled".

There are historical events with far less evidence that don't receive this much criticism and yet they are accepted without question. The idiocy of people like Bill Mahr is his deliberate whitewashing of the facts and misrepresentation of the enormous historical documentation on the subject. The bottom line really is, that to acknowledge the truth means he has to give up his own bit of godhood. Suddenly, he is accountable to someone greater than himself. Nothing Jesus says in the Bible was said by Jesus. It was written decades later by folks who never knew him - a lot of it was written by anonymous authors using fake names. For example, Matthew Mark Luke John Peter did not write those gospels. Also, it took 360 YEARS to canonize the New Testament. What kind of 'divinely-inspired' book takes 360 years to write??? And in the end they still got slavery wrong: Ephesians 6:5 “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.” Leviticus 25: 44-46 “You may purchase male and female slaves from among the nations around you […] You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance.” Exodus 21:20 “If a man beats his male or female slave with a club and the slave dies as a result, the owner must be punished. If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken for he (the slave) is his property” Exodus 21:2 “If you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve for six years, but on the seventh shall go out as a free man without payment” Exodus 21:7 “When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are” 1 Peter 2:18 “Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.”

This from a book that has the Tower of Babel in it, where God gave humans all different languages to confuse them so humans can't work together to accomplish things. Then compare that against the Age of Enlightenment where the phrase it used was "Dare to Know." Which do you want, a book written in the ancient world telling you to not try to know things, which comes from ancient religions so humans don't progress and religious leaders stay in power. Or the Age of Enlightenment, where humans are encouraged to learn as much as possible from Nature, to learn about Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Astronomy, etc.. That we learn how to do business and economics so humans can create wealth, instead of giving away your wealth to the poor as Jesus of Christianity said to do. The world is past your ancient world story Gods. Come into the modern world. It does take some effort to learn from history and philosophy, but I know you can do it.

The question is not what christians actually believe, the question is what actually happened. If jesus actually have lived 2000 years ago and Mary was indeed his mother (doubtful, but for the case of discussion): what's a more reasonable story: 1) she cheated on her fiancee, but feared the (potentially deadly) consequences 2) she got pregnant from the holy ghost. Who choose an unknown girl in a retarded part of the world in forgotten times without nowadays communication means. And no one around to check the facts about the angel telling her she was the chosen one. Is that a way to tell the world how god wants to save humanity? I tend to go for option 1), no matter how many books are written about this fairy tale.

Hey just asking a genuine question here, but evidence according to Merriam Webster Is 1 a: an outward sign : INDICATION b: something that furnishes proof : TESTIMONY specifically : something legally submitted to a tribunal to ascertain the truth of a matter 2: one who bears witnessespecially : one who voluntarily confesses a crime and testifies for the prosecution against one's accomplices. Now Jesus was actually crucified and that was recorded by actual roman historians. Jesus was actually facing a tribunal he was accused by many to have committed in their eyes a crime and was put on trial before he was crucified and that was recorded in history not just by the disciples, but by other historians as well. Now here are a few types of evidence (demonstrative, real evidence, testimonial, and documentary) demonstrative evidence is evidence that demonstrated the testimony given by a witness. This is typically done using diagrams, maps, animations and other similar methods. Real evidence is defined as a thing, of any kind, that was present or used in the case being presented in court. Real evidence can include bloodied clothing, a mangled vehicle, a gun, a knife,(empty tomb hint hint why an empty tomb well because Jesus was buried and his tomb was found empty this does point to the fact that something happened to Jesus body but what BEST explains what happened to his body?)and many other items. Testimonial evidence is viewed by the court to be the simplest type of evidence. It does not require any other piece of evidence to support it or make it legitimate. Testimonial evidence is typically that of any statement made by a witness or other person during the course of the trial now this obviously includes some of the gospel writers and other historians who agree and confirm the events written down in the gospels. Documentary evidence is most often considered real evidence. It is any type of evidence that helps to document the issue being discussed in a trial. Now my question is based on the diverse forms of evidence don't you think that this is more then just a hearsay or he say she say type of situation? there are people throughout history who acknowledge Jesus and his crucifixion as an actual historical event. Even the people who hated him or who were neutral meaning they weren't followers acknowledge he was real and that his followers believed he resurrected from the dead and that his followers believed they saw him alive and died for that belief,if rome wanted to put an end to Christianity (and trust me they did) all they had to do was parade the dead body of Jesus around and no more belief in the Messiah. Now I brought up the different types of evidence not to say that oh your wrong and christianity is true (though I know it to be true, but I respect if you disagree) but I brought it up in the hopes of illustrating that maybe there is more to the gospel then just hearsay or he say she say maybe we should look even deeper into the facts around the gospels. I also brought up the different types of evidence to highlight the point that evidence isn't just something that is solely black and white alot of cases in court are solved through deductive reasoning basically taking general facts of a matter to come to a specific conclusion science even does this alot. There are many different types of evidence that are considered in a court of law and the ones I listed are a few. I listed them in the attempt of illustrating that some of the things surrounding the gospels might actually be considered true even in a court of law based off of what is considered to be evidence. Also sorry for my poor grammar and or punctuation or spelling. I typed this pretty fast and was trying to express as much as I can lol in the comments it's sometimes hard to fully express something because somethings you can go further into detail but you feel limited so I tried to keep it very brief so sorry if some of what I said is confusing or a little off lol.
@albanan1
@albanan1 4 жыл бұрын
@@perspective687 I would suggest that you have a look at the Paulogia videos on KZbin, which address all of your points in detail. In brief, there were no Roman historians who mention Jesus or the crucifiction or any other details of his life. Josephus refers to the Christian sect, but offers no evidence as to Jesus's life. The Gospels were not written by eyewitnesses. Testimony about what other people might or might not have said is "hearsay" and is generally not admissible as evidence in court. There is no contemporary documentary evidence of Jesus.

@@albanan1 you should watch cold case christianity many of your points are false and even bart ehrman (who is a skeptic) admits to the historicity of Jesus and yes the gospel writers were witnesses of jesus crucifixion there was a historian who even acknowledged james to be the half brother of jesus it's kinda hard to be the half brother of jesus if he never existed. Tacitus is just one example he mentions Jesus and the early churches. He admits that Jesus was crucified died and mentions how pontius pilatus sentenced him he admits this to be an historical event so to say no roman historian mentions Jesus is not true.

The Jesus story is weirdly right on point in describing certain aspects of the human condition - like a perfectionist psychological dysfunction, which includes the resulting feelings of guilt and needing to be punished. So we created the ultimate perfectionist, the CONDITIONALLY loving father, whose penalty for not being perfect is death and eternal disownment in a horrific environment. But, of course, this idea of reality was completely unacceptable to our psychological well-being, for those who believed in this sort of god figure at the time. Therefore we desperately needed a way for our perfectionist "parent" to accept us, even though we're all normal, naturally flawed human beings who cannot live up to the impossible standards of perfectionism. And along comes Jesus to save the day! He is tortured and murdered in our place by the design of his vicious father in order to placate his need to brutally punish at least someone - to pay the price for all his normal children not being perfect! Now God can accept his imperfect children, warts and all, and he won't have to spend eternity all alone. So, yeah, the whole story is pretty insane. But, then again, it makes "perfect" sense in a perfectly warped psychological, human way.
