I love my E Niro (2020) even though the 12v battery isn't covered by the 7 year warranty ( Only 2 years cover). That said the car just delivers on range, delivers on practicality, comfort and functionality. It also has buttons !!!!

I bought a slightly used Niro ev 3 and just love it. Had a Niro hybrid before and knew I wanted to stick with a Niro. It’s a dream to drive and has all the safety features of the 4. I will never go back to ice cars

So glad you liked it. I'm a wheelchair user and just about to pick up my Niro EV 4 in a couple of weeks. It's going to be my first full EV Motability car ( currently on a Mini Countryman PHEV ) and due to my father in law having had a stroke recently we are going to be putting in the miles on regular visits to Wales. I'm slightly apprehensive therefore about my need to find accessible rapid chargers - although the 'super power' of the Niro top spec of being able to drive into a charging space while I am outside the car already in my wheelchair should mean that even in extreme circumstances I should be able to access 'normal' charging bays - so we'll see how that works out!

Congrats to your EV6, it's a very beautiful and nearly perfect car - love it. I am German and despite having no speed limit but seeing the climate crisis becoming more visible, I decided to decelerate my life and mobility. My leasing period was about to end in 2022, so two years ago I did a test drive with a Škoda Enyaq, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and a Kia EV6 GT. In the 2000's a colleague of mine bought a small Kia and I thought the quality was very poor compared to what I was used to, so my expectations were really low regarding Kia. (big mistake!) The Škoda, which is always the better VW, felt a little old school and is based on the recent shitty quality of parts from the VAG (VW & Audi Group) and little to no warranty. So I hoped the Hyundai Ionic 5 would be my favourite, but somehow I didn't like its interior and the preset of its drive assist was completely messed up for me to test some basic autonomous features. Then I drove the Kia EV6 AWD and holy cow that car fascinated me instantly, though I am not a car enthusiast, but I love technology and the pure power, the way it felt on the road, its safety features, the cockpit immediately defined the highest standard I have ever experienced and I have been driving some fancy combustion Audis, BMWs and Mercedes. I sadly also realized that all of these EVs were a little too much for my budget without having to cut down my many beloved hobbies. So I was looking for a compromise and since the cockpit of the Niro EV is very much alike that of the EV6 and I found a great Internet bulk deal with 2 year leasing offer with a fixed end price, plus the bonus from the German government and the manufacturer it suited my financial spot and since I read only great things about its predecessor, the e-Niro, it wasn't very likely the Niro EV would let me down. What I love about the Niro EV after 10 months real life use: - One Pedal Driving in the city is so very smooth and relaxing - perfect adjustment of the regeneration with the motor controller in iPedal mode - Highways drive assist (HDA) automatically sets speeds limit reliably/reads signs almost all the time - lane assist differentiates between orange and white line in construction areas, nice safety feature - highly efficient automatic stop & go takes all the annoyance out of every passionate driver - low power consumption despite its compact SUV shape - a well-designed cockpit (despite the use of piano finish) - seats relax position (sleep) is super comfy, though it's not disabled for the driver while driving :-) - has a frunk - no hustle with cables while stuff is already jamming the trunk - has been designed and produced with plenty of eco-friendly recycled materials - has been made in a free , democratic and humanitarian country - South Korea (not to confuse with scary inhumane China that is now building nice cars I must admitt, but would not buy unless their government changes its rules towards their poor own people and they establish a solid service network here in Germany!) What I don't like or miss on the Niro EV: - needs more acoustical attenuation in the rear - when you have zero motor noise, this matters at highway speeds - some software features, timeouts and logic are not very practical but could be fixed by updates - more DC charging power could not hurt on longer journeys, which I rarely do - 360° camera would be nice to have - is no expensive rocket science any more Overall it's a practical and very comfortable car, that feels roomy inside, even on the back seat its OK, but is very small on the outside when parking. I would not buy it for its official list price with its new current competition. Since I got it for under 70% of the list price when adding the leasing payments on top of the fixed end price, sure I would do it again under these conditions. Outside looks don't matter much to me, since I usually drive it from the inside :-) but I think it looks good in steel grey or white - am not a fan of the C-pillar in a different colour. The Niro EV definitely gets a 👍from me

Thanks for an interesting and entertaining review of the Niro EV. I am almost 5 years and 100,000 km into owning an e-Niro here in France and it has been pretty much faultless, only the 12v battery needing replacement. Servicing costs have been half what the Niro hybrid would be and I reckon to have saved €8,000 on fuel as compared to a fossil fuel car doing 50 mpg. We have done long hauls to Switzerland, Germany and Spain as well as our regular annual trip back to the UK and some long trips within France. Efficiency is 14.1 kWh/100 km...about 4.2 miles/kWh winter/summer average. Worst ever real world range was a winter trip on autoroute averaging 110 kph where the range dropped to 350 km....In summer on local driving we see over 500 km at 100% SOC. The problem as you point out is price...these cars are still about €8,000 more expensive than a similarly equipped hybrid version....but I think for me it's paid for itself now and the resale prices here in France are about €5k better than the hybrid.

I never owned the old version but have had the trim level 3 Niro EV for just over a year and really pleased with it. It's everything I was expecting. I don't do long journeys so don't need to worry about fast charging.

We charge our eNiro with a 3 pin charger using solar power for about 8 months of the year. We are retired so day time charging is fine. We use the 7kWh charger when we need a quicker charge.

The analogy works but is a tad complicated to explain. Filling a bottle with foaming fluid is better. Initially the you can pour quickly but as he bottle reaches 3/4 full and the foam rises near the top you have to pour more slowly to avoid spilling. The last bit will be extremely slow.

We've had one since last April - cracking car. Only real problems have been zombie mode (rsometimes efusing to engage drive) which KIA sorted with a software fix last summer, and the original tyres were noisier than those fitted to the eNiro - still relatively quiet though. The range is always over 200 even in winter getting 210- 230 - nearer 280 in summer, and I don't hang around on there motorway! Never had to use public chargers so the "slow" charging speed hasn't been a problem.

I had the Eniro for 2.5 years without heat pump and drove 47k km in that time. found it very easy to get 8km/kwh. great car wish I still had it. I have now the new Niro EV with heat pump for over 1 year and have 32k km on it. I find it very hard to get anywhere near the the same 8km/kwh as with the old model in all types of weather. that with the random power loss of 2-3%, when parked over night. the tailgate constantly rattles, even after the dealer fixed it. zombie mode with the preheat function problem. 12v battery failure, which I didn't have in the old eniro in 2.5 years. there are some great improvements over the old model, looks, headlights and kit inside, but a backward step with the efficiency.

I got one of these last year (with trim level 3) and really enjoy it. GOM shows about 280 miles range in the summer and about 260 currently. What that is in reality don't know as I have never let it go below 20% A great EV though and I recommend it.

After watching this excellent video I am reminded of the birth of the car in the US electric drive was the preferred option but once outside the big cities, there was little or no electricity to charge the batteries and so the gasoline engine flourished 170 odd years later nothing has really changed, charging is still the issue. Just before Christmas I looked seriously at the Nero, my diesel e class was getting harder and harder to get into and out of (both my wife and I are 75) so the time has come to buy that " family" suv. But here's the thing, on a motorway service station near where I live 12 charging stations 4 full, 2 out of order 6 available, fuel pumps 16 all working. Electric for me perfect the inferstructure pants

As an EV owner, even rapid chargers will not charge fully to 100% in an hour. The rate of charge at 80% drops so considerably to preserve the battery that, as a rule of thumb the time it takes to charge from 10-80 will take about the same time from 80-100. So, always charge on public chargers to 80% maximum, and be on your way.

Hi Pete Pleased to see you eventually drive the Nero EV, watched you for some years but this is the first time commenting, Have owned a Niro EV since Nov 23 as for range the lowest I have see is 244ml in winter and have seen 298ml in summer, no I don't race around but I do the speed where applicable. I do have some hills to contend with living just outside Matlock Derbyshire.

Two points:- 1. Many Motorway chargers are now 350Kwh max. Esp at charging hubs such as Rugby on the M6 and the new hub at Gatwick Airport. Gridserve are installing many new points, whilst Tesla is opening up many of its newest chargers to all comers. 2. If you are doing the booking always ask about charge points on site. I have several times not booked at hotels that do not have a charge point. And have had a pleasant time at a couple that did, in Wales and the Lake district.

Hello Petrol Ped, I have the 2021 e-Niro 3 fully electric, my range during the summer is 260-280 mile range dropping to 220 in the winter, slightly less if I pre heat the cabin before use, i.e activate the cabin heater, window demister, heated steering wheel , heated mirrors and rear window for the 10 minute timer by phone app. Ive really enjoyed the car and I've extended the lease by a further 12 months. overall a really good fully electric car experience. I use a 7kw home charger, using the cheaper overnight tariffs so the charging costs are very cheap.

My 15 year old E Class diesel has a range that is three times that of the ENiro. In fact, I can tow a 7.5 metre, 4 berth, fixed bed caravan more than 1 1/2 times the solo range of the E Niro lol

The price point of the new Niro EV makes no sense with other competitors in the same price range. I just purchased a 2021 Kia Niro EV 4+, one owner, four services with 33k miles for £18,000! It still has 4 years or 100,000 mile warrenty. It has the same range as the new one and it's £23,000 less! I can't thank the new Kia Niro EV enough for having such an impact on the older version resell values, as I'm extremely happy with what I go for my money. It's a hard sell to spend the much more when you have so many options on the older Kia Niro EV 4+ available currently.

Good video showing an EV like the Niro is a very capable car. Hotels near airports should have their business heads on and have lots of destination chargers. As an EV owner I’d choose a hotel based on its availability of destination chargers and would happily pay a premium rate for the electricity. A hotel near an airport will attract a higher proportion of owners of newer and company cars. Because of the BIK tax benefits a lot of business travellers will have EV company cars. With 250 car parking spaces the hotel you stayed at should have about 40 destination chargers and allow booking with the room. 7kW chargers aren’t too demanding on their electricity requirements, especially on a commercial site. They might even be able to increase room rates with this USP if demand for rooms increases along with making a profit on charging.

After 12 months of using this car, I have never seen the range saying 200miles. Even in winter it shows 240 and summer 290 and it really does the range it says. It must have been thrashed to show a range of 200miles

Great video Pete. Bit late commenting on this one. My wife has an eNiro 4 (top spec) 2020 model. Done 35k miles. Super car, dog friendly, good range (same battery I think as new model - 64kwh) so agree with your range estimate - 240/250 is max real world range in Summer assuming "real" driving. Range in recent days with sub zero temps and motorway driving taking my daughter back to Uni kills the battery so again 200 miles is about right. Cayman GTS 4.0 parked up in the garage for the worst of the Winter with some Summer Euro trips to Swiss Alps and Black Forest planned. My sensible daily down to work in West London is a Seat Leon FR Sport - essentially a long wheel base VW Golf. Some great cars available from KIA, Seat and others which generally offer higher specs and genuine quality product in comparison to their premium priced peers. Keep up the great work.

We have been driving this Niro EV for more than 30000 km now. Ours is a level 3 trim. Generally we like it a lot. Decent consumption in the warmer period of the year of just over 15 kWh/100 km, resulting in around max 400 km of range. Good interiour space, good handling and great safety features (love the rear cross traffic warning). Great energy recovery pedals behind the steering wheel. We noticed some downsides though. It is a bit too expensive and the “vegan leather” doesn't look like leather at all. It's Android Auto screen uses only 2/3 of the screen (why??). The lumbar support could be better. Now the more serious downsides. In the winter the range drops considerably when you use the heater (close to 20 kWh/100 km) The previous eNiro came with a heat pump, which we dearly miss. Couldn't buy it as an optional extra, september 2022. Another big issue are foggy windows. Fortunately we have a second car on petrol, which we find more convenient in winter. Ergo: I would not buy a second EV without a heat pump. And never one without heated seats and steering wheel.

Our Niro EV is wonderful! We had 3 Nissan Leafs (or is it Leaves!) since 2014, and the Kia is better in every way. The Forward Collision Avoidance Assist has saved me twice (I'm embarrassed to admit), but it's an example of the great tech in our '4' version. Going to a petrol station to only buy milk is something I don't want to change, so we'll never go back to petrol or diesel.

I’m a driving instructor and it’s on my radar to replace my Hyundai Ioniq 38kWh. Surprised about the range and efficiency as the previous Nero was close to a 300 mile car, I can’t imagine the tech has got worse in the new model. Is it a case of the car using the historical driving style of the previous driver, and they’ve ragged it, so it’ll take a while to ‘reset’ and show a better range in the GOM.

I own e-Niro (4+ trim) and an EV6. In my opinion they made e-Niro unexpectedly too good. 64 kWh battery gives me better range than 77.4kWh in EV6 (both driven mostly in Eco mode). It's a shame that Niro EV doesn't follow e-Niro's effeciency plan.

I’m a driving instructor and have been running EVs for 5 years. You’ll find that because your lessons through the day are varied you get much better fuel economy in an EV. The lessons where you spend time parking or starting with a new learner don’t use much battery because when your stopped the motor is stopped as well and at low speed consumption is good. Around town EVs are economical. My previous 2 cars were Nissan Leafs and achieved 4.3miles/kW as a long term average. My current Model 3 runs at 4.8 miles/kW. I don’t notice any drop off in winter but I live and work on the South coast where temperatures rarely hit freezing. Pedro had a press car so the GOM will be all over the place. A better estimate of range is to use your miles per kW against the battery capacity.

@@EVinstructor I got around 4.7 m/kWh on lessons last week, and temperatures were around 2-4° for most of the days. Live in Stoke-on-Trent, so it’s a bit colder than where you are. Last 5,000 miles, so a few months worth, it’s averaged 5.1m/kWh. Stoke to Rotherham and back yesterday round trip of 160 miles, A50 dual carriageway & M1 doing ‘normal’ speeds (65-70), and it returned 4.8 m/kWh and it had 25 miles left.

Great car, Niro (mk2)! Shame it perhaps didn’t make a bigger jump over e Niro (mk1), which remains a very credible used option, and that £40k+ pushes it into more competition, but it’s still one of the better choices at a lower budget.

Comparing your description of everyday use with my used Jaguar I-Pace, the only advantage of the NIRO that I can see is the warranty. 2 year old Jags are now less than the new NIRO. Up to 100kW charging there is no difference in speed my car will cover 220 miles in the winter. Performance is better in the Jag. I am struggling to see what I would be me next car

But the back of the car isn’t as great to look at, but it obviously has an aero aspect that only its mother can love. 😂

I'm not sure about the front charge port, our charger is in the garage on the side wall. Most garages are very tight, I would have to squeeze down the side and front of the car to get to the port when home charging. This would make it a no for me.

Best value is to buy an original Kia e Niro 3yrs old, still with 4 yrs warranty on it and around 25000 miles for less than half the price of a new one. I don't see the new Kia Niro EV as being a better car although I agree it looks a bit prettier, it has the same battery and power unit and from your figures the old one seems to have at least as good or possibly even more efficient battery range of 280 miles.

I have owned the previous e-Niro and now the current Niro EV (both with heat pump}. Strangely the previous version was more efficient- I used to get up to and even over 300 miles range in summer driving and rarely less than 220 miles in winter. With the new one it has been c260 in summer and c200 in winter. Not sure why the difference? The newer version is better looking and has improved interior/ equipment. My first one cost about £34k but there was a Government grant of £3k included. I sold it for nearly £29k after three years so depreciation was unusually low. The new one cost just over £40k and I would expect it to depreciate a lot more due to changes in the wider EV market. As a private buyer that means I am more likely to keep it longer than three years. It is a practical car to own, not too big but enough space for a family. Running cost are low and as I do most charging overnight at home at 9p a kw or using my solar power, it is much cheaper than a petrol / diesel car. Yes longer journeys need a bit more planning but unless you are reliant on public chargers a lot, I try to build in a meal stop etc so you don’t notice the 40 mins needed to get to 80% charge. When I bought my first e-Niro there was little choice in the market. The Tesla model 3 was one I drove but not good for getting in and out of with kids / bad back etc (the model Y is probably a better bet now). I grew to love my e-Niro and it was an easy choice to go for the new one when it came out. There is a lot more choice in the market now but if you are looking for an EV (new or second hand) the Niro is definitely worth a look.

The battery pack, motor and cabling are all designed to be waterproof. They are IP rated as such.

Having just sold my Kia EV thank god. I am back driving petrol now. The constant trepidation on worrying about finding a charger not in use is now gone. The constant charging between 20% to 80% to preserve battery longevity is gone. Put 50 euro in the car today and three quarters of a tank reading 553 klms. Heating on and no big drop in klms. Bliss. Fair play to people that have a great EV experience but I never did. Never once on any trip I took did I drive up and get a free charger, for some reason I cannot live with this. Shame.

Really nice car apart from the price. I have a 23 ex demonstrater stonic mild hybrid GT Line very pleased apart from all the Beeps and Bongs like you their constant. But I'm really impressed how far Kia has come.

Hi all I have the Kia eniro 4+ and have looked at the new model but ! Mine came with a heat pump as standard on the 4+ trim level and not a cost option as the new model , so it's January now and single figures on the thermometer 80% charge still shows as 210miles range plus, looking at Kia web site you only get 2 map updates free ? My old 4+ model updates it's maps on the fly or am I missing something, anyway I'm sticking to my 3 year old 4+ with over 40,000 miles done and no issues.

the problem i find is that kia made a mistake by not including the 800v charging technology of the ev6 but also the version you are driving is touch 44k so would it be better to go for the EV6air which is around the same price

I am German and despite having no speed limit but seeing the climate crisis becoming more visible, I decided to decelerate my life and mobility. My leasing period was about to end in 2022, so two years ago I did a test drive with a Škoda Enyaq, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and a Kia EV6 GT. In the 2000's a colleague of mine bought a small Kia and I thought the quality was very poor compared to what I was used to, so my expectations were really low regarding Kia. (big mistake!) The Škoda, which is always the better VW, felt a little old school and is based on the recent shitty quality of parts from the VAG (VW & Audi Group) and little to no warranty. So I hoped the Hyundai Ionic 5 would be my favourite, but somehow I didn't like its interior and the preset of its drive assist was completely messed up for me to test some basic autonomous features. Then I drove the Kia EV6 AWD and holy cow that car fascinated me instantly, though I am not a car enthusiast, but I love technology and the pure power, the way it felt on the road, its safety features, the cockpit immediately defined the highest standard I have ever experienced and I have been driving some fancy combustion Audis, BMWs and Mercedes. I sadly also realized that all of these EVs were a little too much for my budget without having to cut down my many beloved hobbies. So I was looking for a compromise and since the cockpit of the Niro EV is very much alike that of the EV6 and I found a great Internet bulk deal with 2 year leasing offer with a fixed end price, plus the bonus from the German government and the manufacturer it suited my financial spot and since I read only great things about its predecessor, the e-Niro, it wasn't very likely the Niro EV would let me down. What I love about the Niro EV after 10 months real life use: - One Pedal Driving in the city is so very smooth and relaxing - perfect adjustment of the regeneration with the motor controller in iPedal mode - Highways drive assist (HDA) automatically sets speeds limit reliably/reads signs almost all the time - lane assist differentiates between orange and white line in construction areas, nice safety feature - highly efficient automatic stop & go takes all the annoyance out of every passionate driver - low power consumption despite its compact SUV shape - a well-designed cockpit (despite the use of piano finish) - seats relax position (sleep) is super comfy, though it's not disabled for the driver while driving :-) - has a frunk - no hustle with cables while stuff is already jamming the trunk - has been designed and produced with plenty of eco-friendly recycled materials - has been made in a free , democratic and humanitarian country - South Korea (not to confuse with scary inhumane China that is now building nice cars I must admitt, but would not buy unless their government changes its rules towards their poor own people and they establish a solid service network here in Germany!) What I don't like or miss on the Niro EV: - needs more acoustical attenuation in the rear - when you have zero motor noise, this matters at highway speeds - some software features, timeouts and logic are not very practical but could be fixed by updates - more DC charging power could not hurt on longer journeys, which I rarely do - 360° camera would be nice to have - is no expensive rocket science any more Overall it's a practical and very comfortable car, that feels roomy inside, even on the back seat its OK, but is very small on the outside when parking. I would not buy it for its official list price with its new current competition. Since I got it for under 70% of the list price when adding the leasing payments on top of the fixed end price, sure I would do it again under these conditions. Outside looks don't matter much to me, since I usually drive it from the inside :-) but I think it looks good in steel grey or white - am not a fan of the C-pillar in a different colour. The Niro EV definitely gets a 👍from me

1700 kilograms sounds like good packaging. Even the previous model was shown to do 300 miles. I wouldn't bother with the Chinese cars mostly due to data privacy.

Also I recently found out there’s a new Niro 2 Ev out called exactly the same as previous 150 etc but with NAV on the end of the description which in the UK trim level 2 new ones are coming with SatNav and Kia Connect and both screens are now 10.25” Has anyone else heard or seen this? My neighbour got hers mid June last year and told me she isn’t happy now they’ve brought the Nav spec out with Sat Nav. Dealership never told her to wait or anything!

If these very average EV cars are, for the most part, hitting close to, or above £40,000, new car sales will drop significantly. The majority of the British population can not push their budget that high. I have no idea what but something is going to break very soon.

14:19 "Pheasants are sooo stupid..." This is why I'd be dubious about a car with a front charging port, like the Kia. My current car was damaged by a pheasant who thought it would be a good idea (it wasn't) to wander across a four-lane motorway in front of me. For me at 70mph in one of the middle lanes I couldn't easily change lane and I couldn't exactly slam on the brakes either. Result= damaged front end (plus it wasn't a good day for the pheasant). But at least I could still refuel the car. Front charging ports just seem like a recipe for expensive damage from idiot wildlife that could be a major inconvenience.

The range klls the idea of me owning an electric car. My Hyundai i10 has a 400 mile range which I rarely need. But when you occasionally need to go the distance the car will do it with no compromise.

You can now pick up a used e niro (old shape) with low mileage on a 21 or 22 plate for less than 20k. That's nearly half price compared to brand new. Having bought a new one two years ago, I now wish I had waited a while. Having said that I love the car and have no intention of selling for at least another 5 years.

200 miles at 100% charge is abysmal. Even in the winter. Summer range in my MY22 e-Niro gets to 342 miles. 278 in winter.

@@PetrolPed just wasn't very accurate on rapid charging. Couple of examples, the charge to 100% would take much longer than you suggest as 80-100 takes as long as 20-80 on these cars due to the charging curve. 350 kW wouldn't be ANY faster than a 100kW charger because its going to peak at 80 anyway. Niro EV does have a slight advantage over the old e-Niro because it can preheat the battery.

Hello Peter! Well…a good car but I was puzzled why the range has dropped compared to the previous model…..marketing decision perhaps? Your concerns about having to park at an airport with a low battery and then hang around ages charging up when you get back are very thought provoking. Time was when I was often flying to Switzerland so 120 miles to Heathrow then arriving back there at 10pm onwards and then searching for a Charger erc.would have been a real nuisance! I just cannot decide what to do about cars but am tempted by a three month old Discovery Metropolitan D300MHEV which is cheaper than an RRS and lower than a Defender plus is the only one Hilary can get in fairly easily. Is that a good idea though..diesel and JLR are both seriously out of favour right now… Hmmm…..time to give the D Sport a good tidy up and…..well I might go and look….🤔🤔🤔🤔😬😬😬😬

Someone's been driving that press car like they stole it if the GOM is only showing 200 miles! And you entirely underestimate the likely range.
