Is the New Lotus Emira BETTER Than a Porsche Cayman?

Hey guys, quick update on the figures for the 2.0-liter AMG-powered Emira: Updated technical specs put the four-pot's output at 400 bhp (298 kW) rather than 360 horsepower, and 354 lb-ft (480 N-m) of torque. So, with these specs, it's packing the same sort of power as the V6, leaving the choice down to which flavor of power you prefer. Just wanted to make sure we had that correct (Lotus also puts the 0-60 time at 3.8 seconds, and again these are their estimates). Thanks for watching!

All US i4 will have the M139 with 298KW (400hp) engine and the center console will open. Already have a V6 manual and also have an i4 on order.

Exactly, I had a deposit for 2 years and cancelled it 8 months go. Had I kept the reservation I would get my car roughly 3 years from the deposit date, simply unacceptable. I’ll just wait a few years and pick one up for a whole lot less. I predict depreciation will be quite steep based on how quickly they are dropping on the UK market. It’s still a beautiful car with incredible performance and presence that I will have in my garage some day.

If I had 100k cash I would buy it now. It's at the top of my list of cars to buy. Hyundai Ionic 5 N is the 2nd at $70k. I don't see these depreciating much as the Evora hasn't. I don't think it will ever get below 50% depreciation, especially on the West coast where car prices are high, house prices are crazy high, and women are extra liberal. After I pay off my house in a few years, I'll consider getting a Emira/Evora GT.

It never ceases to amaze me how critics who complain about the 'paddle' shift speed of a dual clutch transmission (Lotus or others) are the same people who rave on about a manual gear change! Get real, people! While you are fiddling around wasting good time and engine revs pushing in a clutch, selecting the next gear, I've buzzed off into the distant future with just a small squeeze of a lever........

Nice review.. but Nathan has apparently forgotten about the various iterations of Lotus Evora, which this car replaces. It was a vast step up in civility, creature comforts and performance from the Elise and comparable to the Porsche.

Great color combo. But the six cylinder manual is much more tempting. This Emira version looks great, but seems to have lost the plot. If you are going to make a one trick pony, go all the way. The four cylinder seems pricey for what it is.

Would I buy this? No. Loved the Elise and Esprit I got to test drive years ago. This Emira version...not so much...I don't have a mid engine, rwd car now. But having owned an MR2-S, I appreciate the formula. I live with a car that does not have hydraulic steering. Or the styling of the Emira. Or a rwd mud- engine setup. But it too is a 2.0 L four cylinder turbo. And in every other way is equal or superior to this Emira version. For 1/3 the price. Hint: The manufacturer is known for having supplied engines for F1. Hint 2: This car set a lap record on the Nordschlieff, among others. Hint 3: Six speed manual. With three driving modes. Hint 4: Weighs about as much as an Emira. Hint 5: Individual number plate next to the shifter. Hint 6: 7,000 rpm redline. Hint 7: Holds four adults and has storage for weeks. Hint 8: Considered to have one of the best designed drivers seat- holds you on corners, but works for long drives. Hint 8: Mondo grip from the 245/30/20 tires. Hint 9: Interior can be had any color, so long as it's red. No prizes for guessing.

$100K??? Probably should be more like 50K. You could get so much more for that price ($100K). I predict that sales will be abysmal and depreciation will be super high. Not to mention the reliability and durability you will have to deal with. It does look pretty cool but I believe I would rather have a Corvette which would likely run circles around this thing.
