When we were giving Tilly ( Collie Labrador cross) a tablet we put some marmite on a piece of bread and squished it around the tablet.We would give her a couple of pieces of bread first without the tablet.Always worked a treat.

I think on the boat, he knows exactly what is 'in the boat' thus, safe, familiar and what is 'not in the boat' thus even if unfamiliar, he knows its out there and not really an issue. But in a house, all the sounds, vibrations and air movement will be completely different so he isn't certain any more whats out and whats in, so even if it seems like its a familiar sound to you, its totally out of context and hard to predict for him. Dogs are context specific learners, so they have to learn something in multiple places and practice it a fair bit to truly understand and generalise that learning to 'everywhere, no matter what' (and to maintain that learning too), whereas we humans are super generalisers, so we learn something in one place and can easily extrapolate to everywhere else. This does lead to a lot of confusion at times, with owners convinced their dog understands because they trained a particular cue, and the dog baffled because he hasn't generalised and the owner then assuming the dog is a rude or bad dog as a result. Sorry, dog behaviour consultant mode *off* I love Clive, more Clive content please, I'd like his own spin-off show really, 'Clive Live' perhaps... 'Clive Arrives' (just Clive arriving at various places)... thats it I am out of Clive rhymes.

Thank you for this! Makes a lot of sense 😊We just try and reassure him as much as we can in the house but he just needs to get used to it again over time. Rufus was also more reactive to the outside before we got the boat and when we lived in a house. So that hopefully also means he's just a little more chilled on the boat, which is nice! haha shall we rename the channel to "Clive Time" and call it a day 😂😂

@@BoatTime I suspect its a lot easier to tell whats what on the boat and so he feels very safe and secure there, it's a nice cosy den and a much easier space to monitor vs a house, if he didn't you'd definitely know about it as he'd really not be happy to stay by himself and very clearly he's a happy chilled boy at home! Honestly if I'd seen Clive I'd have taken him home and he'd stay out all year, I totally get attached! (I started making tiny teddies through Covid, with the intention to sell. I now have a house full of 'em!)

i think clive is a perfect christmas decoration for a small space like a boat.... i dont think there is any harm in keeping it. it doesnt look like it weighs much and it isnt a massive thing ❤ i love when you decorate for christmas and with such a tiny sized decorations box you make it look so lovely and cosy.... i am catching up on your vlogs finally. it hasnt been a nice day... today is the anniversary of my bothers death (he was murdered in 2020) and i have been to the grave to decorate it for christmas (he was autistic mentally between 11 and 15) and then to the hospital about my knee injury and wasnt the best news i have ripped the meniscus and damaged the mcl 😢 so now i am catching up on your vlogs to cheer me up
