But then, thanks to Pope Benedict XVI, I read the VII declarations as he implored and found that secular media, and many priests, bishops, and religious teachers were utterly incorrect in what the Council declared. @@richardgreene6810 Exactly, there’s a mythology that’s been built up over the years about Vatican II, Novus Ordo and the state of the Church before Vatican II that’s just not correct. People take up and add to this mythology to justify their own opinions about the current pope or the state of the Church, which is like being a Catholic Protestant. That’s not to say that Vatican II was perfectly crafted articulated and executed but it’s not what people think it is.

As a disillusioned Catholic, Trent’s final statement has given me hope. Edit: thanks for the kind words and encouragement everyone. I am working my way back to communion with God. Reading the rational Bible, Dennis Prager says “if I disagree with something in the Bible, I must be wrong.” I’m taking this mindset forward with me. I don’t agree with everything our Catholic Church has done or is doing, but I will hold tightly to the perfect word of our Lord when I’m confronted with imperfect Church leadership.

The point Pope Francis is making is that we need to stop the “approval” blessings. This document is very much geared towards the German bishops, it’s not really about the American church. It’s a google document and applies the same everywhere, but the problem it is addressing isn’t happening here. I don't believe that was the point of the document which is why Father James Martin is thrilled. A request for a blessing is asking God for help. A gay "couple" together approaching a priest for a blessing, as "informal" a blessing as it may be, is still a blessing. The couple is not asking for individual blessings nor a blessing to help them out of the relationship and repent but rather to IMPROVE their relationship. On many occasions, my wife and I, after Mass, have approached the priest and he blesses our marriage....not individually, but our MARRIAGE. What other blessing would a priest give to a gay COUPLE unless he silently blesses them to repent which is not the couple's desire and certainly not what the Pope is suggesting.

It's not for us to judge who requests blessings in good faith and who doesn't. Every human being who truly desires to follow God is entitled to his mercy and love. Those struggling with SSA shouldn't be discouraged from seeking God just because others seek to take advantage of it.

We had a same sex couple come into our church and make out and hold hands at the back of the church our priest quietly and calmly admonished them but didn’t point them out he just stated for all to hear that same sex couples in the state of sin (clearly non retentive) should abstain from the Eucharist and formal blessing. Dear brother, the Church of USA is not the only one Church in the world, how can't you understand that this document is first of all an answer of the Church to the Church in Europe who tried to bless the same sex union as a sacrement of matrimony ? Also the document made all things clear, I can say that as I'm out of USA that here in Europe, I'm in France, the document didn't have any problem. As always for medias it was the begining of huge transformation for the Church and for credle I didn't hear some thing. So yes, the confusion which is in yiur Church is because of medias which are playing with you obedience to the Church. Imagine that if someone know that if some thing relised by the Church have been critisized by some faithfull catholics, if this person doesn't want you to remain in union of Rome, what he have to do ? Only misinformation, to spread fake news... And now here we are, you instead of closing your medias even the conservative one and go to seek information in the vatican website, you choose to trust your medias, just you have to remember what they have done in vatican 2 Council, so yes be lucid and pray for the pope and his intentions, so your confidence in the Church will increase and read document directly from the vatican website. By the way this document have to be put in the continuity of what the Church have always teached in the CCC, also in the Last document on this subject which cleary said that the Church can't not bless sin, speaking about the act of praticing homosexuality. Okay heres the deal guys, as a former Catholic I can tell you this: No one knows all this nuance of blessings and defending of this move by the weathervane pope. Your average person who knows absolutely nothing about the Catholic Church or these rules just heard the pope say he will bless gay relationships. Explain away the details all you want. Most people now believe the Catholic Church blesses gay relationships. There was absolutely no talk from the vatican and the pope that this blessing means you are to go try not to sin and live a holy life lol. Nope the gays heard "you win!"

While you are right in explaining the sad situation regarding many people's understanding and response to this document, just note that the Catholic Church is all about nuance and truth. The Faith does not lay out nicely on a napkin as many would like it to. It is as complicated as the history of the past 2000 years and if people aren't willing to look for the truth of the matter, that is their own negligence. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

That truth of that verse has been demonstrated throughout Church history. She survived the early gnostic heresies, the east/west schism and the Reformation. She's survived all sorts of attacks from within and from without and come out on the other side with more clarified teaching. Each crisis has seen the Church shed members who were insistent in their dissent. I don't think the current crises are more dire than those that have come before, but even if they are, the Church's history of validating that verse should give Catholics hope for the future of the Church.

The only point I might disagree with Trent on is his disappointment that the document does not repeat the statement from the document from two years ago that "God does not bless sin". The only reason I say this is that Fiducia supplicans explicitly reaffirms the teaching of Responsum ad dubium from 22 February 2021 right in the introduction. Fiducia supplicans is not a replacement for but rather a supplement to this earlier document.
