For me, the true optical zoom, and the additional capabilities of the ZV1 makes it worth it, as opposed to a sensor crop or having to physically move the camera in or out to get the right framing on the F. I use the optical zoom all the time to slightly adjust the frame size and to zoom past the teleprompter foot that might creep into the bottom of the shot.
@WolfsHaven2 жыл бұрын
I won't spend my money on it. Minus a couple design flaws the ZV-1 was almost perfect for my uses. That said it is the camera I use the most outside of my PTZ cams. The 1F seems like a step backwards to me. In my book that's a fail but I do see where it could be useful for some people.

I will report back soon! I'm bringing only the ZV-1F on my next trip!
@robstravelsadventures Жыл бұрын
Agreed. They should have update the ZV-1, ZV-E10 at the same time. The fixes are needed in the ZV-1, but too much was r removed from the ZV-1F like Coldshoe instead of hotshoe,nphase detect auto focus was removed from 1F as well, plus the ND filter which you mentioned. Holdout for E10 or ZV-1. Refresh

Some camera have a maximum that they can record, I want to have an HDMI camera that I can use to record an interview that will take more then 2 hours, will both these camera's do that?
@aaronpk2 жыл бұрын
There is no record limit on these cameras, so the only worry is whether they will overheat. I believe they won't be able to record for 2 hours in 4K, but can probably handle that in 1080. I haven't tried a recording session that long, but you can probably search for other videos that test out the overheating limits.

I use the zv1 as a overhead and use the same DC coupler. I do think this zv1f just makes it easier for new content creators to ease the tech curve. They call them vlogging camera but unless you use the catalyst program you get for free it's just ssshhhaaky 🤣

Aaron - Thanks for this video. I have the ZV-1 and have only used for videos since it seems in order to livestream the camera wants USB-C for the output and since ATEM mini pro only takes HDMI I couldn't find a way to force it to HDMI. After seeing your video and reference to HDMI, I am wondering how are you pushing out via HDMI and if you are doing so to ATEM Mini or Yolobox? BTW- you ATEM Mini Pro stand ROCKS!!! Mine just arrived and wow!
@aaronpk Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The ZV-1 works great over HDMI, you'll need a micro HDMI to full HDMI cable to connect it to the ATEM Mini. You'll also need to make sure that in the settings the "HDMI info display" is turned off so that only the video and not the camera interface is sent out the HDMI port.
@RobertHMoweryIII Жыл бұрын
@@aaronpk Thank you. That HDMI info setting was the magic one and what now has the ZV-1 working well with the ATEM Mini Pro.

Aeron, I have a ZV1, although I like it a lot, trying to shoot 4k video in bright sunlight is very difficult as the screen is too dim. If only Sony could fix this issue, perhaps with a reflective screen. The screen brightness is fine when shooting photos in its bright sunlight mode, but video does not have this capability. I assume the limitaton is the battery capacity or the potential for over heating. For the USB power, just use a decent capacity USB charger. Funnily enough the Ikea three output wall wart works fine for me (UK Version). Justin.
@aaronpk2 жыл бұрын
ooh, I haven't done a lot of shooting in direct sunlight, but I suspect you're right that it's trying to avoid overheating by reducing the brightness of the screen

I shoot a podcast from about 8 feet away. I just purchased the zv1F. Do you think it will be able to shoot me in good focus with the auto. Also do I need to use obf to get 1080 with clean HDMI or can I just do that directly in KZbin?

@@tyleredwards9382 Hows it? am confused between zv1 and zv1f for podcast shoot
@tyleredwards93822 ай бұрын
@@AaqilFaizal wouldn't recommend it for 4k but it is fine for 1080 p and definitely use a separate mic for audio but the F is the cheaper vlog style camera with a more shallow depth of field. If you go to my channel Garage Goons and look for more recent interviews all of that is done on that camera with a rode mic set up . The solo stuff I typically shoot on my Samsung phone

Great video. I purchased the zv-1f for media events and media interviews. What I found is that the zoom sucked. I also use my canon m50, but because I want a backup for the backup I'm returning the zv-1f and getting the zv-1
@aaronpk Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah the zoom on the ZV-1F is digital so it won't be as good as optical zoom like the ZV-1

Hey Aaron, is the ZV-1F capable of recording to the SD simultaneously as usb-webcam? (The ZV-1 is not capable of it, probably it uses same compression processing for recording and webcam.) However, to add confusion, the ZV-1 can record to SD and use a Xperia-phone as usb-connected monitor
@aaronpk2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not. Connecting the USB cable to a computer puts the camera into USB streaming mode, and pressing the record button says "invalid during USB streaming"
@0tecon2 жыл бұрын
It's a pity.. I'm using a Elgato camlink to get booth a HQ-mp4 rec. on a SD and still have the ZV-1as MS-teams-camera now which works very good. But it would have been easier for the non-geeks to use without the camlink.
@aaronpk2 жыл бұрын
What kinds of scenarios do you find yourself wanting to record internally while also using as a webcam? I have a couple in mind myself but I've always preferred a different option anyway, I'm curious
@0tecon2 жыл бұрын
My case is a weekly company internal "news" (a live show) which is streamed with MS teams to employees that cannot attend on site and a recording to the intranet for those who are not able to joint on-site or online. And as we dislike the teams-recording i want a good recording for post processing. Its also relatively easy to have a colleague doing the cam-streaming as they are used to manoeuvrer MSTeams meetings and the ZV-1/Camlink acts as a webcam and audio source in teams. Then i can take care of the recording, twist it in Resolve and upload a good looking video a day or two later.

Why is the Zv1 f better for livestreaming. because the usb-c?
@martelljhixsonАй бұрын
I guess...but I'd use a capture card and then it doesn't make a difference....the ZV-1 is just better all-around if you are using a capture card for higher resolution. Also, USb streaming is on both...Not sure how if there is a real benefit to the cheaper ZV1-f except for vloging honestly.

The ZV-1F seems like a waste of time to me. No ND, no zoom - even as a studio streaming cam you’re likely to want to frame shots without moving the camera - about the only upside is the slightly wider lens.

I'm looking for a camera that can replace my mokose cameras that I use on my live streams to give me this view from the outfield in baseball games. That would be a long list! There are quite a lot. The ones that tend to not have clean HDMI out are the cheaper ones or the ones that are more targeted at photographers. It's usually pretty easy to find in the list of specs on the website for the camera though.

It's a bit outdated but on Elgato's site there is a list of cameras that work well with the cam link. It's a decent place to start.
