As an old retired scientist (octogenarian) I began taking your suggested dosages of vitamin D3 (5000 IU) and vitamin K2, MK7 (180mcg) in October 2019. In November 2019 I tested negative for Covid. In late December I tested positive for Covid. I lost my smell and taste for 3 months. I initially feared I was doomed because I had a heart attack in my youth (65yo) which left me with a poor prognosis. To my surprise it had minimal effect on me!! That’s when I knew you were onto something big! In 3.5 years of taking your exact recommended dosages I can report it has also pulled a lot of calcium from my arteries! You have scored a threefer! It pulls calcium from our arteries and soft tissues (1/3), it enhances our bone health (2/3). It minimizes Covid-19 (3/3). Congratulations Dr. Brown! You deserve the Nobel Prize! Keep up your excellent work. I’m also taking Dr. David Sinclair’s protocol for two years. I am feeling like I was 40yo and testing younger than 76yo, using Dr. Steven Horvath’s test which is showing confirmed age reversal!

Have you gotten a CAC "coronary artery calcium score "? BTW Dr. Kate author of the book "K2 and the Calcium Paradox " Is now recommending 100mcg of K2-MK7 per 1000i.u of D3. She has an interview with Dr. Mercola on u-tube. My self I am on the Linus Pauling Heart Protocol. And have been taking 2400mcg of K2-MK7 with 5000i.u of D3 for the last 2yrs. My CAC has gone down from 660 to 458 in 20 months.

@@peterpiper5300 : the levels she gave was 50 - this is the blood level of D. So that’s 50ng/ml. For that, you need 180mg. The problem is, however, people have different blood levels of D wrt how much they take in IUs. So if we both took 5,000 IUs your level could be 50 and mine be 40. It’s all different. So you can’t determine it accurately for IU consumption. You have to get the blood work done to determine your level. Your doctor will potentially bring it up (incorrectly IMO) and start mentioning concern for toxicity arguments... Personally, from what I’ve read about it, I’d be comfortable taking 5K IUs with about 200 daily. But don’t take peoples opinions on that. Get your blood work done to see the level.

I was diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency and a week later started getting extreme nausea, stabbing sharp bone pain and increased urination. My doctors were stumped and eventually my kidneys stopped working and began urinating to the point of extreme dehydration, needing frequent ER visits for IV fluids several times a day. I heard about vitamin K is needed to direct calcium where to go and took one vitamin K capsule, within 30 minutes symptoms had subsided that had last for two months. It seems in this day and age, you have to be your own doctor as most doctors knowledge in inadequate! I don't know what I would have done if not for these passionate, caring doctors sharing their knowledge on KZbin.

Strange. Do you not get enough SUN? Did they give you high dose supplements and are you better? I would also get a blood sugar test kit and test regularly. Urination is associated with diabetes. My guess is you don't move much. You stay inside too much. Your body is slowly dying. Get out and live the life you were give my friend. No doc can do that for you.

@bina nocht I take Mag. Glycinate every night. I know nutrition better than most. I've studied it for many years and had an M.D. Nutritionist as well. If you want to share with me e.g., your top 10 go to foods, I will share a few quick thoughts with you. Usually it is not about supplements- it is about the nutrients in your Food and your exercise level. The body is smart too and will store things so you really have to abuse it over time to get symptoms. I suspect what you THINK is the problem, in most cases is not really the problem. Doctors will lead you down the wrong path usually as they are in business to sell pills which destroy gut biome.

@@UTAH100 hello there, I have a question about supplements and lupus. I've be suffering from low vit D and low ferritin for 15+ years. How should I pair my vit D with, either with K2 or calcium , magnesium for bette absorption? Right now I am taking Vit D3 5000 units ( no K2 or calcium in it) and multivitamins . Last year I found out that I have beginning stage of Lupus.
@UTAH100
@UTAH100 Жыл бұрын
@@SG-wq4rm Hi S G. I am sorry you are suffering. First, and important, I am not a doctor, nutritionist or medical professional of any kind. Nothing I say is advice, of any king. I will speak for myself only. If it were ME, I would be careful to not take K2 w/D3. I believe it is very important to ensure that the calcium gets back into your bones and not building up in your arteries. D3 is a HORMONE, not a vitamin. I've read things that caution about taking K2 for extended periods so I don't really take either at present. "I" take Magnesium Glycinate before bed. I take 1, 125mg POWDER capsule, sometimes two. Magnesium is very important for many reasons so I do take it, however I am cautious to take too much as I don't want to put a burden on my kidneys and liver. They are pretty important too! Always seek to PROTECT my LIVER and FEED my GUT (fermented Kimchi daily.) So to be very clear, doctors LOVE their LABELS (and drugs that go with said labels.) You might be presenting some LUPUS-LIKE SYMPTOMS. Does that mean you have the label? I don't know. If it were me, I would question things. I would be highly suspect of treatments (drugs) as they typically can cause other major issues. There are always side effects- sometimes they are worse than the actual condition- that might have been temporary anyway. Docs want and need to get you on drugs- and keep you on drugs. See the FLEXNER REPORT- it is all in there. 1910, A. Flexner recommended a TREATEMENT MODEL vs. PREVENTION to the healthcare industry because it made more money. It was quickly adopted and still followed today. They need you as sick as legally allowed. I am friends with many docs. They can be good people over all but they are in a lousy and highly corrupted system. Even they will admit this over a glass of whine. They truly are smart, SALES PEOPLE. They sell DRUGS- period. I am talking your general pill pushing docs and lesser extend Surgeons or ER docs. They will never have a serious talk with you about health, nutrition and exercise which is a bit ironic. You NEED to connect, not with me, but with a real FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE PROFESSIONAL. I recommend *Dr. Sten Ekberg.* He just opened a new clinic- get there. Also, Dr. Mark Hyman is very good as well. If it were ME, I would identify the ROOT cause of the SYMPTOMS. I would not get hung up on a LABEL (LUPUS.) I would address the root cause. If a plant is dying, move it into the sun, get it water and nutrition. It could be LEAKY GUT and major internal inflammation. That is my guess. Our digestive tracts, intestinal epithelium (protective barrier) is literally only one cell thick. When that easily gets compromised for any of 100 reasons, we can have all kinds of symptoms. I am surprised they did not label you Fibromyalgia (yet.) It is when they give up and just want to throw medication at you. Sadly, most docs are clueless about nutrition- truly clueless. Have you tried intermitted fasting and a good, elimination diet? Have you tried Carnivore? If it were me, I would make a big check list and methodically rule things out one at a time. I would take it on like a project. I have had very good luck doing this. It's what most docs do anyway- they just try stuff and see what works. Only problem is they prescribe a lot of stuff along the way that can make things worse. Good luck- keep me posted on your progress. I am curious. My email is on my channel page under About. You got this. Oh, one last thing, if this was me, I would as in 100% be checking my blood glucose 2x daily until I know exactly what and how to eat to keep myself in an ideal range. Poor glucose control is the foundation of nearly all metabolic dysfunction. I consider it more important than just weight. Cheers! 😄

A genuine practical question. Just checking if any MK-7 studies have checked the supplement alone, as it may be something in NATTO (or the fermented foods that have MK-7) that is a necessary or useful cofactor?
@larsnystrom6698
@larsnystrom6698 11 ай бұрын
@andrewnorris5415 Natto has both K2/MK7 and Nattokinase, which both are active. So, Natto Itself should be more potent against CVD than just K2 is. The japanese researched K2/MK4 in high doses (15 mg 3 times a day) against Osteoporosis. We probably doesn't need that much, though. The Nattokinase research is new, but seem to show that it's really effective, and beneficial to the arteries. K2/MK7 has been researched in the Nederlands in increasing doses up to about 400 ug (0.4 mg). It seems to slow down calcification of the arteries, but so far hasn't reversed it. I myself think all vitamin K:s are beneficial in relatively high doses. But not more than totally 2 mg together. Both K1 and K2/MK7 are at least partially converted into K2/MK4 in the body. So, we don't get really deficient in that. But obviously, the body like that form. We otherwise get it only from animal food.

Quote from webmd: "An egg yolk can contain between 67 and 192 micrograms of vitamin K2. This amount depends on what the hen eats, however. Most chicken feed today is fortified with vitamin K, and this content passes onto the egg." Just eat 2 or 3 eggs per day and you are good to go. Calcium? I've come across the info that there are a number of different forms of magnesium. I had been taking magnesium citrate/aspartate until I came across a very in-depth paper on the subject that suggests that magnesium "malate" is the form of magnesium best utilized by the body. I'm just another punter out here reading the best sources of info on K2 I can find so I don't have any explanations of why one is better than the other when it comes to magnesium. I did however, based on the strength of all the other information detailed in the material I was reading, decide the fellow doing the writing knows a lot more than I do . . . and the malate form is no more expensive than the other forms of magnexium. I stick pretty much to NOW brand vitamins except for K2 . . . although I was taking NOW k2 before I upgraded my K intake however to the product sold under the name KoncentratedK. It has much higher levels of both MK-7 and MK-4. Taken at higher levels, that website documented reversal of plaque accumulation after a minimum of 6 months daily use. In other words, taking a "theraputic dose" as opposed to a "maintenance dose." In the same material I've been reading, it's been shown there is no upper limit to the amount of K2 (MK-7) or (MK-4). In other words, there's no known toxic level. So there's no harm in taking high levels of K2 . . . other than to your wallet perhaps. Just my two cents. If there's some way to minimize the chance of stroke or heart issues then it's money well spent.

The form of magnesium that is best depends upon what issue you want to address. Magnesium glycinate is best for addressing insomnia and anxiety, and therefore should be taken at night. Magnesium citrate is best at addressing constipation, and can cause diarrhea. Magnesium L-threonate is best for migraines, and could help with mental acuity. Magnesium malate is the least expensive of the forms, such as magnesium taurate, that are best for addressing muscle pains, including those from working out.

10 mg Boron daily did away with my arthritis before I had heard of K2. Other things that eliminate my knee pain depending on what I need more of are Mg bisglycinate and hemp oil--the kind without CBD oil or cannibinoids of any kind. Storing it in my freezer, I use it where ever unfried oil is used in my batter or salads (tip: use garlic). In batter, there is water so the oil doesn't get damaged in pancakes. When I increased my D, I needed more Mg. I put all of my supplements into my food. I open caps of Mg and use the amount that works, not necessarily the whole cap. When I increased the D, I went to about twice as much Mg. Too much benadryl cripples my knees so I use it sparingly for sleep. For references see: vitamindwiki.calm. And an online document called, "There's nothing boring about boron."

Hi Dr. Brown, thank you for this info! Some questions. My Vit D level was only 32 yet I was taking what I thought was 8000 IU of vegan Vit D3 (spray form). I clearly was not taking the right VIt D3. What brand do u recommend? I live in cold NJ! Also I was taking K2, 50 mcg in supplement form and I eating Kimchi nearly every day (about 2 tablespoons full) and I take other supplements like Turmeric (for pain) and sometimes Wobenzym. I don't want to thin my blood too much either. Any recommendations?
@jesusjones3014

From my understanding D3 is not vegan, D2 is the vegan form but is less absorbed so D3 is best. Switch your D3 from a spray over to any gel capsule or many powder capsules have a combo of 5,000 d3 and 75ish mcg of k2 in mk7 form.

@larsnystrom6698
@larsnystrom6698 Жыл бұрын
@leopold poppenberger The doses you take of vitamin D are so high that it's medication and not supplementation. An optimal dose would be: Vitamin D 5000 IU Vitamin K2 MK7 200 ug You can calculate that 1000 IU of vitamin D3 raises the meassured value in the blood by 7 ng/ml. Take more than that only if you meassure it and still have to low value. The individual variation is large! A lifeguard out in the sun all day long get a dose of about 20'000 IU. At that level the skin begins to break down the vitamin D it produces, so obviously the body don't want more!

Anne, soya is an adaptogen. It moderates estrogen levels. The estrogen in soya is not the same as hormonal estrogen. Perfectly safe and beneficial. If you're concerned about excess estrogen in your diet, it's wise to remember that 99% of meat derives from female animals (containing hormonal estrogen), and that 100% of dairy products derive from lactating female animals, whose estrogen levels are already high (because they're female), and 40 times higher than normal, because they're lactating. That's 40 times higher estrogen than normal. This is before the supplemental estrogen (often legally, sometimes illegally) added to animal feed to make the animals put on weight rapidly. Estrogen Dominance is widespread in the western world. It's a quiet epidemic. Some 'experts' claim it's due to xeno-estrogens in plastic food containers. This may play a small part, but the overhwhelming cause has to be meat and dairy, whose consumption has rocketed - juts like breast cancer - over the past years. Think milk shakes, burgers and McDonald's. But, of course, vested interests would rather you didn't put two and two together. Your health is less important than their profits.
@sectionalsofa
@sectionalsofa Жыл бұрын
@@johnmachinmegavegan8378 I agree but I don't think the doctors have the vested interest in hiding the truth. The meat and dairy industry does. The reasons doctors tell breast cancer patients not to consume soy is sheer ignorance. Listen to Dr. Kristie Funk's story. As a breast cancer surgeon she was telling her patients to avoid soy until she did research for her book and learned the truth. Now she recommends daily consumption of soy as well as whole, plant based diet.

The important ratio is between about the D3 and parathyroïdhormoon. Something unknown to most scientists. The parathyroïdhormoon must absolutely be between 15 and 25. For somebody could a value 40 of vit.d3 and somebody else 90. The only way to find out is to check the ratio d3 parathyroïdhormoon. If the D3 goes higher the parathyroïdhormoon decreases Remember , the value of 15. And 25 is mandatory. This MD lots of talk but doesn't know the most important thing .

@@DrSusanBrown This 20,000 IU Vit D per 30 minutes of strong sunshine on the skin is a common statistic - but it depends on skin colour, how much skin is exposed, time of year, latitude, age, state of health, etc. (Incidentally, I've seen a study which found that exposing the nether regions to the sun increases vitamin D synthesis fourfold!) So, the precise relationship between sun exposure and vitamin D synthesis is debatable. What I think we should take from it, though, is that, in our natural state - living outdoors with few or no clothes in the sunny tropics - our vitamin D synthesis would be considerably higher than the official RDA. Therefore, I feel we should infer that optimal health may well depend on a level of vitamin D well over 20,000 IU / day.

Hello Dr Susan, is it ok for anyone to take Vitamin K2 ?? Can A PRE-DIABETIC take Vitamin K2 ??
@DrSusanBrown
@DrSusanBrown Жыл бұрын
Yes, a pre-diabetic person can take vitamin K2 (MK7), but it's essential to speak with a healthcare provider first. Vitamin K2 is a type of vitamin K that is vital for blood clotting and bone health. It may also help regulate blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity. However, people with pre-diabetes or diabetes may need to monitor their vitamin K intake, as some studies suggest that high levels of vitamin K may interfere with blood-thinning medications. Also, if you're taking any medications or supplements, it's crucial to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure that vitamin K2 (MK7) won't interact with them. They can help you determine the appropriate dosage and monitor any potential interactions with medications or other supplements you're taking.

Hi ..... I was having chest pains and nerve pain since 2 months.... Went to a ton of doctors but they said I was fine and my heart was fine and diagnosed me with whatever mental disorders they knew like anxiety, depression, psychosomatic disorder, fibromyalgia PTSD and what not ..... Finally I did my research and found out about people who had the same symptoms as mine... And they had vit d deficiency... So I got my levels checked ... And the are horrible low at 12.... So I went to the Dr and she prescribed a multi vitamin (to be taken once daily) and a d3 tab (to be taken one a week) , my chest pain and tingling sensations have almost vanished , I mean they ate still there but reduced significantly.... But I'm having lump in the throat sensation since a week without a break and sometimes I have breathing issues... Can this lump in my throat sensation be caused by d3 deficiency!? I'm literally loosing hope everyday.. please reply

I hope they reply. Most doctors are now saying multi-vitamins are crap, and you can research why. It sounds like your doctor isn't very...good, to say the least. I hope you're not too shy to chew her out for not having done comprehensive testing on you before. I've just now discovered Dr. Brown, she's great and has ALL the credentials. If you don't find an answer thru her, I'd suggest looking up "Dr." Eric Berg, no credentials--chiropractor--but has brief, to-the-point videos (especially on Vitamin D). MD's have one class on nutrition, i.e. vitamins, so, as your doctor demonstrated, they generally have very little knowledge when it comes to effects nutritional deficiencies have on the body. I've seen a lot of KZbin chiropractors with better knowledge of nutrition/vitamins... Best of luck to you, I'm still on my healing journey. Suggest you start keeping a journal of sorts; a chart with how much of what vitamins you took, aches and pains, and notate if you ate a lot of junk that day or slept poorly. There are too many variables to jump to fast conclusions, but after a few years you might begin to see correlations that might be helpful. Or not. Worth a try, though.

@Aesthetic_leen I would guess you are still very low in vitamin D. Test it again. And when you see that it is low. Get 5000 IE almost daily. Test again after 3 months. You want a level of 40 - 60 ng/ml, or higher. But over 80 is not needed, although still acceptable. A multivitamin hasn't enough of vitamin D to make a difference. You didn't say what dose your weekly vitamin D was. But daily is better.

Lived in Belgium for years. Was given anti depressant bc I developed anxiety. I had never had anxiety or panic attacks. Belgium has a lot of dark days and rainy. Well came back to the USA they tested my d levels and voila was low very low. To make a long story short - nutrition and sunlight play a huge role in mood disorders. Felt much better taking vitamin d and never took an anti depressant again / which made me fat and I was never fat.

Hello Dr.Brown. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom. I'm taking K2 with D3 combined and the K2 is 120mcg and 1,000 IU of D3. I feel like I should probably increasing my D3 levels to closer to 5,000IU per day. My question is there a limit to K2 dose taking it with D3 before it might have adverse effects? Could the ratio of the combined k2 and D3 be safely taken 3-5 times per day. K2 120 mcg per 1000 mcg of D3? Thank you!

Hello! Dr. Brown typically recommends that people getbetwen 180-200 mcg of MK-7 per day. Because the K2 to vitamin D ratio in particular products does not align with Dr. Brown's guidelines for better bone health, she typically recommends supplementing with K2 and vitamin D separately. One great product we offer is our K2 (MK-7) Bone & Artery Support supplement that provides you with the recommended dose of MK-7 (180 mcg). You can find this product here: alkalineforlife.com/products/mk-7?_pos=1&_sid=8388a7ef0&_ss=r

Hi, I work in the dietary supplement industry. I wanted to clarify that K2 is the only fat soluble vitamin for which there is no known toxicity. Meaning that, you can therefore take quite a lot without fearing adverse effects. Also 5,000-7,000 I.U.s of D in studies affords subjects the potential to achieve 50-80 ng/mL, which is the optimal range for all mammalian life on our planet, even that of humans. Take both with the largest/fattiest meal for best absorption. To your good health!

This is for Stephen great information but shouldn’t you take vitamin D and K separate three hours apart as they compete for the same absorption

I agree with Steven in fact the latest recommendations I have heard from Dr.Kate author of "K2 and the Calcium Paradox " are 100mcg of K2-MK7 per 1000i.u of D3. Reason being that K2-MK7 can be overrun by D3's Calcium production. Myself I am on 2400mcg of K2-MK7. I use K2-MK7 made by Nutrizing 600mcg caps. I have reversed my CAC 660 to 458. I am on Linus Paulings Heart Protocol as well.

This is one of the better presentations I have seen on vitamin D and vitamin K interactions, but I have some issues. The first is that vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 are presented as basically the same vitamin. They are not. With regards to multi-vitamins they are generally treated as a single vitamin, but they are very different. Vitamin K1 is the clotting factor vitamin, and should be avoided (with regards to supplementation) by those on blood thinners. Its only relationship to K2 is that it can be converted in the gut to K2-MK7 with a healthy gut biome. It is also a mistake to treat K2-MK4 the same as K2-MK7. K2-MK4 has a half life in the body of a few hours, and should be taken several times a day. Typically, it is recommended that if K2-MK4 is being taken, it should be about 800 mcg daily. K2-MK7 however, has a half life in the body of a few days, and 100 mcg is typically the recommended daily dosage of K2-MK7, and it is recommended that it be taken at least 3 tines a week. For supplementation, it should be taken daily, but if obtained from fermented foods, at least 3 times weekly would be the guideline. Typically, those recommending 180-200 mcg are assuming a mixture of K2-MK4 and K2-MK7, and sometimes even a mixture of K1, K2-MK4, and K2-MK7. One other thing. This video mentions therapeutic dosage of vitamin K. There is a difference between a therapeutic dose and maintenance doses. A person would have to take in excess of 10,000 IU/day of D3 in order to worry about the impact of D3 supplementation on K2 requirement. If you are not exceeding this dosage of D3, 100 mcg/day of K2-MK7, or 800 mcg/day of K2-MK4 supplementation should be sufficient.

I do not agree about the dosi vit d3 . It should be related to the parathyroïdhormoon ratio, which should be between 15.-25. this is mandatory. K2 MK4 is far much better than Mk7. The reason it stay short , it's because has been absorbed contrary to the Mk7 which stay long online. I take 15mg MK4 (3x5mg) and 200mcg MK7. The results are fantastic. No more oral plaques, strong bones, beautiful skin, etcrtc

Calcium rich veggies and supplement with d3 and k2, it’ll reduce the degradation atleast, slowing the osteoporosis for sure, by approx 60% according to one study. Unfortunately there isnt as many studies as we’d want on the topic.

Hi Lucille, D3 and k2 will help. My GP in UK are useless. I used to take prescribed alendronic acid tablets once a week. My research at that time told me that it helps to osteoclast, which means builds new bone over old one, but not osteoblast, which is removing old born and replacing with new bone. But my gp insisted on the prescription and said the book was wrong. However, with a lot of research on it, I believe alendronic is ok for a short time, like 5 to 10 years, but needs to stop, so I stopped having it. My gp has never heard of k2. He kept saying I meant vitamin k. He said he has not heard of k2, so I have no faith in him for years. The hospital doctor knew about k2. But they do not prescribe. I have been having k2 with prescribed adcal3 for good 3 years now. Hospital doctor told me to do as heavy weight training as possible, as there are people who gave up alendronic but with heavy weights lifting have got rid of osteoporosis totally. My dexa test is well overdue now. I refused ot last year, even though I do not have to pay for it. This is because of pandemic, hip replacement and sciatica in 2021, I was not able to do heavy weights. But hopefully this year i shall have the tests done. Going back to weightifting now. Last test showed that I am osteopenia in on my right side. Left is getting stronger now, I believe. So I suggest doing some exercises, light weights to begin with and also taking vit d and k2, which I do now. B12, magnesium, boron and selenium are also helps.
