Great information, everything I had to figure out on my own over 20 years reversing my osteoporosis. I gave up on endocrinologist pill doctors who knew nothing about the cause and treatment off my osteoporosis. They prescribed pills with very serious side effects that did not increase my bone density over 5 years before I realized I would have to figure out the cause and treatment myself.

How about vitamin K2 ? It helps tremendously in calcium absorptions. Without K2 calcium will just be in your blood stream and not being absorbed into the bones.

At end of Dec 2021 I developed pain in the ball of my foot. I was walking about 1 hr a day on a paved path with good supportive athletic shoes. I inserted Superfeet insoles and an additional Dr Sholl's insole into L foot just below the ball of foot with the understanding I was offloading the weight on the ball of the foot when standing/walking. Pain in ball of foot went away for 2 weeks. THEN, I was out walking and there was a Severe pain in the Top of my foot. Did no exercising for 1 week and pain didn't go away. 1/31/22 went to podiatrist and her xrays show a broken 3rd metatarsal. I'm now in a boot allowing bone to heal... Shocked this happened from walking! I am not taking any drugs, don't smoke & eat healthy... How much K do I need? Thanks I already take Vit D.

Medicare wouldn't pay for a vitamin D test nor my vitamin B12 test even though I have always shown I am low on these. I think that's deplorable.
@DrSusanBrown2 жыл бұрын
HI Kay! This is common that Dr's wont prescribe or insurance wont pay😩 Luckily there are companies now in which you can obtain these test through low cost self testing methods. We link to some options at the bottom of this blog: ecs.page.link/YUadt

I know this is a super late reply. But have your doctor put a diagnosis code when ordering vitamin d levels. The insurance then has to pay it.

I had a knee replacement and then found out my back and knee were going too. I am going to have another knee surgery. I am scared that the replacements aren't going to hold. I read where the meds the Dr. Gives you take your jaw bone. I refuse to take it. I need help the Dr.said I would need hip surgery next. I am 54 years old.
@DrSusanBrown2 жыл бұрын
Melinda, it's wise to start building a lifestyle that will support your replacements and give them longevity. An alkaline diet helps build bone in conjunction with strength training and proper supplementation. Good luck on your journey!

Hi Madam, What is the min and max need for vitamin d daily intake for osteoporosis people.Is shelcol Hd is enough ?
@DrSusanBrown4 жыл бұрын
As Dr. Brown explains, your need for vitamin D will depend on many things such as the season of the year and how much sunlight is available. The best way to asses your requirements for a vitamin D supplement is to test your blood level and try to obtain a 50 to 60 ng/mL level. Read Dr. Brown's blog on this subject. bit.ly/33zZIXp

Vitamin d3 has a 25 day half life according to a dr on YT. He said if you are low and take 4000iu a day, it can take 3 to 5 months to normalize. However if you take 200,000iu in a week, you can hit normal levels in a few weeks.
