Bury Market is a traditional market known for its vibrant atmosphere and a wide array of goods. Dating back to 1444, it has long been a central hub of community life. The market is especially famous for its Bury Black Pudding. The market hosts around 350 stalls selling everything from fresh produce to household items, attracting both locals and tourists from across the UK.

Bury is in Pretty good shape and the Market really helps it. Shame about the Railway museum not being open. The East Lancs Railway line might interest you. It goes over to Heywood in one direction and upto Rammy and Rawtenstall in the other. The Greek Deli Katsouris is worth a look, they've just moved it from the indoor market to opposite their cafe.

Pity we couldn;t see your bank balance! Bury Council have done a wonderful job maintaining a thriving town centre when many other towns are in decline. For an example of a council doing a bad job look at the state of Bolton town centre 6 miles away. The difference between those two town centres is Bury Council discouraged out of town retail shopping whereas Bolton council encouraged it.

Sometimes when Helens not in it, because she has to work, I feel theres something missing (which is the Helebobs obviously), nothing you can do about it, BUT this vlog, because you were running solo, had soo much more content in it, I’d give it a 10/10 👍🏻

The answer to the question about loved ones going to war... NO ! Simply because what's happened to this once great country. These old industrial towns you visit highlight what we were all about back in the day. How things have changed, and its not for the better. Just my opion of course. Another great vlog, James. Bury should be proud as punch! Well maintained town a thriving retail industry. There should be a study taken why they have gotten everything right, then passed on to other ailing towns. That 'Town Hall'! There must be history, ie the original got burned down/bombed. They certainly would not pause a 100 yrs or so to build that monstosity! Fantastic vlog mate. Bury is going to be happy with you with the amount of people now wanting to visit! Win, Win, Win.

Really good vlog James of a place I've always liked to think of as my "second home town" ... My mum was born and bred in the town & met my dad when he was stationed at Bury barracks on Bolton Road (some of the buildings are still there and used as a bar / restaurant called "The Barracks" I think) He was an only child and hailed from Newhaven in Sussex, but my mum was one of four siblings and they set up home together in Essex in the 50s to get work in London after the war. I remember we ALWAYS spent the school holidays in the 60s & 70s visiting my grandma who lived opposite the barracks and staying with various numerous relatives in the town until she died in 1977. I think my mum was distantly related to Violet Carson who played Ena Sharples in Coronation Street but I am definetly related to Gary & Phil Neville (and Tracey!) whose grandmother was my mum's cousin. I've still managed to go back to Bury every two-three years since, the last time being two years ago when I finally ticked off a bucket list tiem and ate black pudding on Bury Market ! I often buy packs of "Bury Black Pudding" (the corporate owners of the stall where you bought some) at Asda to have with a cooked breakfas,t but to eat it cooked fresh on the market you would have needed to go to Chadwicks just around the corner - TBH it wan't as 'nice' as what I am used to and left an after taste, but it had to be done !! ... When I introduced my partner to the town the day after mum's funeral in 2016 she got inside the Parish Church and said it was good (she does churches & cathedrals like I do football grounds !) and though you went in the Fusilier Museum, I am not sure if you went in the Art Gallery / Bury Museum opposite which you identified as a grand old building, which used to house the library in the 70s where I begged my dad to let me go in and borrow football books to read in the boring moments whilst staying with elderly relatives ! My mum did indeed work in a cotton mill when young just before WWII, but I am not sure what my dad did in the army, he certainly didn't go abroad and fight, I never knew why not , he died in 1995 ... Obviously we always went to Bury Market but 40+ years ago the famous shopping street before the town centre was modernized was The Rock which leads away from the Peek statue. In recent years that part of the town has been completely revamped and makes the adjoining indoor Millgate Centre (where I always park too!) look a little insignificant. The famous fish n chip shop just across the ring road from the market was Thomsons, but it got demolished in the revamp however they re-housed them in a small unit in amongst The New Rock and the food there is still very tasty ! ... The centre of the town where the monument to John Kay stands is known as Kay Gardens and buses used to line up all round the square to take you to all areas around the town, in the late 70s the Bury Metro Link was created to give the buses a proper station, with the railway line from Manchester Victorria diverted slightly from Bolton Street Station, where the tarnsport museum & heritage railway are now. These days the Metro Link is served by trams from the City instead of trains, using the old route but my next visit will hoipefulyl be later this summer to ride the steam train through Bury on the East Lancashire Line from Heywood to Rawtenstall (I still have a relative alive in Ramsbottom !) and I also want to see Bury FC play again now they are back at Gogg Lane where I watched some of my first football matches as a young lad ... So many memories, thank you for getting so much of the old place on You Tube ... Great job mate !

James, what a lovely crowd of friendly people you met on this market trip. Those stall holders are a real credit to Bury. Birkenhead used to have a famous old market until the original ( post-war) one built down early 1970s. There was a famous stall holder named Eli and people , some not even looking to purchase anything, would just stand and listen to his patter as he sold all sorts of goods. It’s said that the famous Liverpool comedian ,Ken Dodd, would often be seen standing and listening to him and then use some of Eli’s patter in his act. “ Where’s me shirt?” , was one of Eli’s quips as he rummaged through boxes of goods , looking for some flashy shirts that he was looking to sell at a bargain knock down price! Ken Dodd a few years later had a hit single with a song of that name😀

I briefly remember the 'old market' by the Bhead Tunnel entrance as a child, being dragged round by me mum. The 'new' market used to be just as popular, & like Bury, coaches would bring people from all over, especially N Wales. Today it is almost mt of stalls. The Council is planning to move it to an old Argos store, a tiny fraction of it's original size. What an absolute shame!

Bury's a great town, I live in next town and always go there. There's another newer shopping area across from where you parked and if you'd walked to the steam train station you could have had a craft beer at the bar on the platform, if open . 😊

Fred Dibna once was filmed placing the weather vane on the top of Bury Parish church. Great vlogg. I live in bury. The fella that made the Peel monument created Nelson on Nelson’s column.

Looks like you've missed the new shopping precinct at the Rock.

The indoor market is currently closed due to refurbishment and there is also “the rock” shopping centre area, across the road from the market.
