Hi Jane! I know you're taking the time to focus on other things so I don't know if you'll see this. I just wanted to say that I was so incredibly disappointed to go to your channel to binge watch your videos and see this instead :( it's hard to imagine that even a great artist like you would get bad comments still (I know they aren't the focus of this video but that was so frustrating to hear). Thank you for the mention but I would also like to say that my channel grew because I did videos that I am not as connected to, like my tutorials that are more for general art audiences and not really in my niche. I was also thinking about making a video about starting an art channel lol so I guess I'm guilty of the things that cause you frustration. My point on all of this is that, I was able to grow my channel because I made videos that I didnt enjoy as much as my painting videos. I relate to your frustration a lot but in the opposite way . I focus so much of my time and energy on youtube that I don't have much left to put on building a community and growing my artistic self like you do. You are one of my favorite artists and I always envy your community as well as your art. I felt some of the burnout at around the same time you posted this so that's why I didn't see this video. I understand youtube isn't your favorite medium to share your art right now but I also hope we'll see you here again when you are comfortable enough to come back. Yours is one of my favorite channels and I would wait patiently for your return!

I find it fascinating that you mentioned hamrib, because she’s the reason I found you on KZbin when she talked about you being inspirational to her. She specifically mentioned your fearlessness with colors, so I came and subscribed! Thank you for your art and your honesty. You’ve just inspired me to be more interactive with creators. I’ve never considered how discouraging it must be to not get feedback on your content

You mentioned an illness about ten months ago. Maybe it was COVID? It’s well known to cause brain fog and other neurological side effects, lack of focus , etc. Maybe this is the issue.

Sweet Jane, I am a PATREON member, but I found you here on KZbin. I am one of the guilty ones that enjoys your art, but rarely comments. I found art after I lost my two sons… it has helped pull me out of the depths of grief. Many times I just watch your painting, but I have attempted two of your PATREON lessons. You have so much talent that inspires me greatly… even the ones that are dark and moody - because that’s life, isn’t it? Everyday isn’t rainbows, and we are blessed to have art to get us through the chaotic and sad days. 💔 Just trust that even though you may not be getting feedback, you’ve touched someone’s heart with inspiration, your talent, and even empathy when you open yourself up and are vulnerable with us. ❤️ you are valued and treasured, and if I could only have one person that I watch on PATREON, I would always choose you. 🥰 Sending you love and hugs from Texas!

In MY opinion, you are not only the best watercolor artist on youtobe, but generally the most unique and innovative portrait painter I have discovered in recent years! Greetings from Austria and never stop believing that your art sparks great things in people because it is! ps: oh my god it's only now that i realized that you are considering not continuing with youtube -and i can only tell you from my point of view i would be incredibly sad! Every time there is a new video from you i sit down on that day or the next day at the latest and draw -because your videos and your art inspire me so much! I really hope and I'm SURE I'm NOT alone in this, that you keep uploading videos and inspiring everyone else with it! ❤️

I have a lot to say about this as a fellow artist and youtuber. I understand that question all too well, is it worth it to continue? I think ultimately you have to ask yourself the question of what is most important to you as an artist, do you want to be a teacher, do you want focus on original art (selling it and through galleries), do you want to work on commissions, are you more interested in an illustrator's approach, ...? Whatever your main goal is, that's where you should put the most energy in. Usually you'll have side-jobs to finance your main goal. For me, my main goal is doing original art, but I teach art on the side for money and do youtube videos when I have the time to share the process and behind the scenes. Generally speaking, it's getting harder because there are so many artists out there, so the competition for attention is insane. The key is to never lose the honesty of your work and creating art that is uniquely yours, that's your only fair chance at getting noticed. Also, you sound burned out, this is not art block, you need to rest and take a break. I hope you can do that. On a side note, I love your moody colors here.

I must say, your tutorials are hitting the spot for me and I’m glad to see you’re still posting, even if they’re only shorts. I’ve just finished watching the video where you described the process of five layers and I put a comment there too. So useful! I’m very glad to hear your Patreon channel is going well. I hope you decide to keep posting longer videos, but if not, I’ll still find the the videos you’ve already posted useful and inspiring. Don’t worry about unpleasant comments, that’s just unhappy people needing somewhere to put their anger and sadness. Your work is beautiful. I’d join your Patreon if I had more time to commit to painting. Maybe one day 🙏

I just found you! Please don't leave, I think your work is so beautiful. I haven't been able to paint for years because of some of the issues you describe. Watching your videos does help, I even managed a portrait a few weeks ago! KZbin does help but yes, it's not the same as real community where the feedback is so immediate and real. I hope your patreon continues to uplift you and you find your joy again soon. Thank you for sharing.

I just found your channel and I’ve been binging it… THANKYOU for enriching my life with these exquisite videos! I am disabled and often don’t have the energy/motivation to paint. I live for watching other people paint… so I really can’t thank you enough. I can’t log many hours painting but I make up for it by watching others paint… I’m convinced it tricks my brain into thinking it’s painting and actually helps me learn faster than I otherwise would. It’s like eating the best dessert watching you paint! I love watching all the stages your printings go through. I feel like you could have a finished piece at each of the stages… and then I see the final results and I never would have guessed it was going to end up there! It just makes me think about all the possibilities of a painting. Not giving up. Finishing early. And that you never know what the future might hold for a painting… will it be the bones of a future accomplishment? Or meant to inspire someone a year down the road to pick up their brush and paint differently… 🫶🏻

I'm a new artist who started drawing and watercolor painting back in March 2022 after spending my whole life thinking I had no artistic talent and doing no art, but doing every other creative/crafty pursuit I could. The grid method and the Loomis method showed me the light! I have no desire to monetize my work, so videos about that side of things are of no interest to me. I like to see the drawing/painting process, hear your tips and tricks, but also just to watch beautiful art being created. Your work and Lioba Bruckner's have been the most useful to me as far as seeing someone paint realistic portraits with flare in a style that I want for my work. I can't DO it yet, but I get steps closer every time I try. (I've also gotten into and love HamRib Art lately, feeding my new gouache addiction and wishing I could make it look that easy.) I work a full time job with long hours and don't get to paint a lot, so videos like yours keep me motivated to keep trying and progressing when I can. I would hate to see you disappear. (I'm still sad that arleebean has recently taken a step back, because I found her inspiring, too, though not quite my style.) I've also been a member on patreon (under a different name) for the last few months, and I find your real time videos especially helpful, talking through your drawing process, etc. I tend to comment there more than on youtube, though I'm slower to get through those videos because I want to really focus on them, rather than letting them play in the background. (October's posts are next on my list.) I love all four of these paintings. The addition of the gold really resonates for me. I really admire that you can be pushing through and still create beautiful pieces like these.

Your work is awesome! Jane you have been such an inspiration to me especially in the area of portraiture. I hadn't done very many portraits until I watched some of your videos here on KZbin. You helped me realize that a portrait can be so much more than just someone's face and shoulders. You are the one artist on KZbin that I can rely on to be innovative and thought-provoking. I hope and pray you won't be too discouraged and stop doing this. I have missed you. Another thing I love about your work is that parts of the painting, mostly the face, is wonderfully rendered and beautiful, while other parts are amazing, loose and splashy, exuberant and fun! Another very cool thing about seeing your work on KZbin is that I can watch it on my big screen TV and it looks amazing there. I have also enjoyed the use of the gold foil lately. I have used that in some of my paintings over the last couple of years and find it a wonderful accent. Love and prayers for you. 🙏❤️

Dear Jane, I think you are a great teacher. You taught me so much about taking risks, using more water, more pigment more freely, about enjoying greens and darks and textures. I'm sorry for not being so active. My hands health has been roller coaster. And I had to reduce my use of them especially with devices and a lot also with painting. If you leave KZbin I'll miss you dearly. But I won't blame you. You have to put yourself first. I hope you find what you need to have balance and enjoy art and a community. You are a great artist. Your work is unique and full of emotion. I love watching you paint. And I thank you for what you have shared. There is no need for you to say anything else. I can only imagine how exhausting it is to be there for every comment. And you already gave all of us so much.

You are lovely, Jane!!! I feel you when it comes to looking at your art and it appearing dead to you. I get the same feeling when I "force" myself to paint something just for the sake of painting instead of looking at something, embellishing it and making it my own. I love these paintings, however, but there is sorrow in the eyes expressed. I feel that too. Thank you for sharing your emotions not only in word but in your art. Again, you are just a lovely person Jane!!!

All artists, no matter the time, have always had difficulties. I have long made portraits with colored pencil and also with graphite, I had a lot of moments of difficulty because I did not have enough clients to live from. One day I dropped everything, I didn’t want to draw anymore. I did nothing for thirteen years and at the beginning of 2022 I decided to make watercolor, only for fun. Make the decision that is right for you.

You have greatly impacted me - I have been experimenting with so much more color and texture in my works. I have been hungry for watching your channel. It’s the first channel I look for when I open Utube. But you must take time for you and your life ! I find that a block provides me with time to think and taking time away from one thing in lieu of another can be progressive. Focusing on one thing can be helpful to the soul and mind. Please take care of you !! And whatever you decide to do is right ! Don’t listen to the trolls either ! You should listen to your heart. It’s so hard to find negativity when you throw your all into your work - it’s like a slap in the face. I totally understand that ! I hope you find healing and heart during this holiday season! With much thanks, Amanda Rose

I have heard that this can happen when your taste has moved further and faster than your skillset can keep up with. To address something, the reason that I'm here as a subscriber is bc you're honest about what you're doing, when it works, when it doesn't, and above all elese, you're honest about the work. To me, that is the most valuable thing in the world. Honesty and watching you work has helped me immensely. hi ! just wanted to chime in and let you know that i do like your style and I come back to your videos whenever i am in watercolor mode. (i am not an artist - as a job) but I art does give a lot of joy to me. However i manage to ruin it for myself when i want to paint something bigger than usual, and I always lose the joy whenever i want to make something more challenging or use "the expensive" art supplies or if i want to make something that I don't have time for. It is so bad when I can't enjoy it anymore. In those times it helps to remove pressure, try to make something quick -instead of nothing, and change the medium I use. As for the channel, i think a lot of youtubers take regular breaks, and it's ok. Ultimately it should make you happy too.

You are the only one who made color mixing and skintones make sense and seem so easy and fun. Your videos are the ones I watch for hours and I wish you had more content on your patreon to devour. I follow other artists but I find your approach the best and I have learned tons just following along with you. In terms of content, I wish you made more drawing/sketch videos because I LOVE your process and I would love if you broke down the sketching process a bit more for beginners. As someone who wants to take in as much art as possible I tend to stay away from those channels. I don’t think it’s healthy, artistically to put so much pressure on one’s creativity. Just my opinion 🤗💕 Personally I LOVE your channel. It is filled with amazing art and insight to ART. Thanks for always sharing I appreciate you so much. Forget the other noise 🥰

I’ve been painting for 30years. Hit burn out professionally and decided to start over with watercolor because I love the ‘artists’ hand or line work, blooms etc showing through the art. I got to the point that if I painted photorealistic portraits I might as well do Photograghy. Your work inspires me greatly. Your individual expressiveness is unique. I especially like your scketchbook tutorials. Don’t give up on KZbin please. Love your work

I found you when I was starting my own watercolour journey whilst stuck at home with cancer treatments. Your KZbin videos are a delight as is your commentary. You are hugely talented and this is the first comment I have ever made🌹

I personally love your channel. I love watching you paint and your honesty in the videos. You are a human with mess ups and highlights not a creative robot pumping out content. I am grateful that you are open and not pretending to be perfect. You have some paintings that are older that I would love to have a copy of but I can’t put aches anywhere so I will literally watch the video over again to be able to see it haha I love your art. Very inspiring. God bless you 💜

All the paintings are amazing! I would buy them if you had Etsy? I feel you Jane, I hit burn out twice this year already and it's only March - I had to step back and figure out why and realised its because I was just trying to do too much. (Trying to illustrate 2 books simultaneously, run a Patreon AND a weekly Webtoon..!!) Realising we aren't superhuman can be hard because you really want to do everything, but if you do you can't have time for living a normal life too - (I'm a freelance artist/author but my work is in publishing books (traditional publishing not self published)!) I worked really super hard to get here but this month I realised now that I'm here, I need to pace myself in order to manage to do something I love for years to come. Now I'm very happy again and finding the love for my new career in full-time art and books :) When I started I used to do watercolour painting a lot but I also got frustrated and overwhelmed thinking of how to do it full-time and earn money this way (coming from a career in architecture) and realised to try to get myself supported being freelance it would be super difficult to build an audience very slowly, and start to pour energy into KZbin, commissions and Patreon or socials and become a fine artist, so at that crossroads, I chose books instead, and now I'm glad I did.. Bittersweet because I do really miss traditional art, I might have to pick it up again as a 'hobby'..

First of all, thank you for being honest and sharing everything you feel, get hurt by, get frustrated by. Thank you for being vulnerable. I know from personal experiences how difficult it is to open up especially on social media and KZbin. I did miss your videos but I didn’t reach out because I believe in giving space and from your previous videos I have gathered how KZbin doesn’t make you feel happy because of all the effort you put in. And its okay to feel that way. You too are a human being and then its not easy being an artist too. The creative outlet, freedom, growth, etc are a whole different debates. So i really appreciate you opening up about everything. Believe me you are one of the most genuine, sincere, and different artists that I know of. And I really appreciate it because you being so honest like this helps me feel not alone with all the struggles of being an artist, being creative, the growth both as an artist and a human being . You are honestly one of the people and artists I look up to because being honest in today’s world especially on social media and KZbin isn’t easy. I feel like its a mandatory obligation to glory your life, growth, art, and every single thing to portray a false perfect life and being perfect and being content and fake on social media. Being sensitive, vulnerable, showing struggles, being a human with emotions, feelings, a heart and soul is not taken well. I for one are grateful to you for so many things your art and teachings included. I have mentioned before how you inspire me to be daring and try portraits when I don’t feel like its my thing but I have started to take baby steps towards it. I am not saying just to make you happy or anything but I truly mean every word. Your honest, sincerity, vulnerability, sensitivity, genuine-ty(don’t know if that’s a word but I feel like it is) means a lot to me. And I am so glad that after everything you are still there for your true supporters via patreon. This comment is getting longer and I have so much to say and thank you for. I’ll just sum everything up by saying you are a blessing to me and I can never be grateful enough for it. Best wishes and love ❤️

As a beginner, and struggling, I look at your work and I assume you are superhuman with no struggles in your creative life. What an eye opener to learn that you struggle too! I guess we are human. ❤ I hope that you continue.

I'm guilty of not intereacting with videos, you just opened my eyes for why it is so important. I can't squeeze here everything I'd like to thank you for. I learned so much from your videos, got inspired, you even helped me in worse times when they simply helped me calm down. I wish onl best things to you and I believe you will make best decision for yourself. Just want you to know, that I trurly cherished your work and will miss it. Love

I completely get this. But if it helps, I have been painting watercolour for a good while now, and almost gave it in. I decided to spend a day watching KZbin videos to see if I could re-spark my motivation and desire for the medium, and I found myself clicking through your videos for HOURS. Everytime I'd see a style I'd like I'd notice the channel and think "oh, of COURSE it's this creator" I could have just stayed in your channel page hahaha. Best of luck with your journey
