As a retired pleasure carriage driver, I did 100’s of miles of road driving & there is definitely pro’s & con’s with the bohrium on the shoes. We always used packing & leather pads between the shoe & hoof to help with the impact of driving on the roads.. This was back in late ‘80’s thru early 2000’s. Getting the levels even on the shoes was essential, as were the pads. The farrier was out every 6-8 weeks, shoes replaced every other visit. I drove year round, so the feet didn’t get too much of a break - going 8-10 weeks between resets. The ice balls in winter were the worse. I got to the point I had shoes removed late fall & not put back on until spring to give my Fjord a break & grow out some good hoof. I liked when the studs came out, although not removable, they were level, easier for installing for the farrier. Being retired, my last Fjord is a pasture ornament & has never had a shoe on her. Farrier out every 8 weeks, goes to 10 weeks in winter. The cost difference of barefoot to shoes with pads & studs or other traction added is amazing! Enjoy your explanations, your farrier is definitely a hard worker! Wish I could gift him a chiropractic visit or massage, but can’t, as I’ve been dealing with many health issues. You all do great work & seem to have a good team there. ❤🙏👍

Oh what a sweet posting this has been. LL Cool J , he sure is a neat little guy. Lots of energy but not a brat at all. Always happy to see that blind horses do find good homes so kudos to her adopter who like she said can show her students that just because a horse is blind doesn't mean that they have no life to give. Again, shout out to Paulie, he is a heck of a guy who works his booty off. He also is kind and caring in his own way, he wanted to do some research on the one guy as he said, I don't want to do more harm than good, so want to make sure that whatever I do to his hind feet does not make whatever worse in his hips. Paulie needs a life gift certificate for a massage a week. Being a farrier is hard work, but when working with rescues and drafts and everything in between it is even harder. I say he needs a hot tub for next Christmas!

Everyone at Pony Tails is trying so hard to help these horses and let them build confidence that humans are not all terrible. I would encourage the trainers to watch the Steve Young Horsemanship KZbin videos. He doesn’t hurt horses and offers leadership with his training. I’ve seen and heard some very helpful training strategies. Hope they’ll take some time to view his videos.

One thing I see consistently in your videos , which I think should be reconsidered, is hoping on a horse that is moving around. I understand you guys are busy and trying to evaluate them but I would think one of the basics is standing for mounting.....it's rider safety and basic horse manners (chances are if they aren't standing to mount, they aren't standing for vet, farrier and even grooming....hope you guys consider fixing this aspect of evaluations and training. Keep up the great work!
@PonyTalesRefuge9 ай бұрын
That is something we work on, but for initial evaluations, to an extent we let them do what they want to see what they know and are capable of. Then correction is applied and we move forward to fill holes or correct bad behaviors, ect.
@ellimae15485 ай бұрын

So excited for part 2..!! Saved it till l go to bed so no interuptions !!..only calls of nature 😂..I'm so pleased they took Beauty too..she is slow but steady..ideal for a new or nervous rider and boy what a way to teach them from a young age that blind horses can still lead a full stimulating happy life and not just be sent to auction for scrap !!.. gotta mention Mr Cool J..jeez he sure is a speed merchant isn't he..!! Do you think they barrel raced him ?.. but he sure was responsive to all instructions..except maybe WALK😂😂..so that was 6 horse adoptions and 1 goat..Biggie and Lil Wayne are soo darn cute..shout out to Pauly.. its back breaking hard work to start with..but when you have horses who have probably not had the best experiences with humans and farriers who don't know what they are bloody doing..then Pauly has to try and put that right..such experience tells especially when he pulled the foot up by rope...neat trick.. And we can tell when he comes across poor treatment..bless him he wanted to do more investigation before he did anything to that one horse..so he wouldn't hurt the horse..!! And THAT is from an excellent experienced farrier..worth his weight in gold is Pauly..now you have freed up some space..next stop the auction saving more souls..Bless you ALL for what you do..Missed Nate in this one..😂.. 🇬🇧💕🙏✝️👏👍🐎🐎🐎🐎🐴🐴🐐🇺🇸

I had a saddlebred thoroughbred mix and he was jumpy, really startled easily. Since I had to ride on paved areas to get to and from the riding trails i used borium shoes so I was walking and trotting instead of ice skating. He seemed to do well with them and, in spite of being skittish, he didn’t ever act out with humans or other horses. He was pretty sweet.

Cool J looks like he is paso fino or part paso fino. Being a Peruvian paso owner myself I know these breeds and this way of forward walking is normal for these horses. Their legs go a hundred miles an hour and not so forward motion. They can be high strung or as they say in Peruvian lots of brio which means energy and willingness to please. So trying to get him to go slower is going to be a challenge because this is natural movement for these horses. Good luck I hope he slows down for you but don’t be surprised if he doesn’t. And that’s only if he’s a fino or part fino. Watch videos on this breed and you will see what I’m talking about.

My farrier used a heal bar made like a wedge and it helped our standard bred race horse and we had it made in a shoe that went over the whole hoof because of his hoof wall would not hold nails one time and we used hoof care powder that help the hoof grow stronger and put calcium power with it as if you don't put calcium power with the hoof care powder in it dose not work as good and when you use that hoof care powder it make the hoof wall stronger and it really works as i had to use it on my cow horse that had white hooves and he had very soft hoofs that the shoes use to come of very easy and it took six weeks for the hoof care powder to work and it was my vet and farrier that told me about the hoof care powder and to use calcium power with it and now he dose not lose his shoes that easy and he could even go with out shoes over the winter months because he dose not get ridden because of his old age now

When I lived in Idaho, I belonged to a gaited horse group. Because Paso Finos, Peruvian Pasos, Tennessee Walkers, and other gaited horses walk faster than Quarter Horses, we had to trail ride separately. The other riders did not want to jog during the entire trail ride, but slowing down gaited horses is not really possible.
@marshawoods74939 ай бұрын
I have been wondering if your trainers work with the horses to pick-up their feet. It seems like Pauly gets thrown around trying to trim them. I can see way he has back problems. He does such a great job and is a top notch ferrier.
@kathleenvadney62179 ай бұрын
LL Cool J needs to be taught to stand completely still before anyone mounts. He’s learning a VERY bad habit. It will become increasingly difficult to break that habit the longer he’s allowed to do it.
@crimequeencreates82486 ай бұрын
I agree. He should not be allowed to just head out right away when he wants to. Not only is that dangerous for the rider, but he is learning he doesn’t have to wait until the rider tells him to go. My grandpa had a mustang that did that. The moment he felt weight in the stirrup, he was off on the go. It was very hard to break him of that habit.

Is the adoption partner different from a normal adopter? It’d be cool to see a vid sort of going through about all the different roles involved in the rescue
@PonyTalesRefuge5 ай бұрын
An adoption partner continues training with some of the more difficult horses to provide them with the daily consistency that we cannot. They then find them new homes, we run the proper checks to confirm the adoption, and they get to sell for what they would like and keep a percentage while the other percent comes to us for the horses "adoption fee". Only very trusted partners are a part of this.
