Where are the people that could have got it running in 10 minutes? They could have used their spare time taking the steering apart for you! I reckon you can rebuild that easily enough so it’s good enough for use, be much cheaper than another steering box unless you know where there’s one. 👍🏻

I've really enjoyed this dumper mini series. A few weeks before you started the project, i just got my little dumper fixed, and you're pretty much dealing with everything i had to contend with... even the arsey so-called professionals who just laughed at me for not knowing certain things about an engine, predating me by 50+ yrs and I'm 40! Funny things for you maybe... i used to use a digger with a strap wound round where you put the handle to start it, leave the decomp lever in the "run position" then lift the strap with my digger, like a pull start... that was ok but itd lift the dumper rear end sometimes.. so i made a frame and stuck an old honda gx160 with a clutch and pulley belt drive onto the crankshaft... yeah i looked at electric start, but that means lots of fab work i couldn't do. All made from marketplace parts, cheap as chips. I dont have a ytube chanel so no video on ere, ur welcome to come look anytime though if youre ever in lincolnshire 🎉 love your vids mate, nice to hear someone not taking crap from the "stationary engine community" ignore ppl who tell you to do a "pop off" test on the injector, mine didnt fire, i didnt want to buy a single job use £75 injector tester, so i just cleaned it, then just adjusted it till it squirted. Once the engine ran, i just adjusted the injector untill the smoke was bearable... its not right, but it runs fine, starts easily and has enough power for me.. I had to weld the diff to get anywhere on mud, oh and ended up replacing the piston because the skirt had fallen off, along with the oil scraper ring.. it was burning oil and "ran away" so i checked the piston. Nothing to do with bad injector pressure. 😊

Only just caught up, not been getting notifications, definitely need to work smarter 😂, couple of blocks of wood to keep her in the air, never would have caught me working under a tank engine on a crane 🤭. Incredible the work going into something that looks so simple, clearly been out in the elements for while! Floating balls and no race in sight! That box looks beyond repair, I could be wrong, but you indicate that it would be expensive, by comparison, to replace. Could always make a yellow jacuzzi!!

People used to fit steering boxes from cars to try and repair small dumpers but the steering would go the opposite way. A steering box from a forward control van like an Austin J4 did work. My dumper has a worm and peg steering box, I think yours is the reciprocating ball type. That's where the loose balls are from. Hope you can get it sorted.

Same problem that I have with my winget 2s. I’ve not even looked at the engine as the steering box is knackered. There is a company (David Cornwallis) in Leominster that rebuilds marles steering boxes but they wanted £850 to do mine!!!! However they do have all the exploded diagrams on their website and will supply the parts I’ve just never got round to working out what parts I need.
@tomcardale559614 күн бұрын
Zoro / Cromwell / Kennedy do quite a nice hydraulic puller set with bearing splitter and both two and three legged pullers. It works well. They're a lot less wobbly than the screw type ones because the main pushing shaft (erm...) is thicker. It was pretty good value, I paid about £100 two years ago but it's just about doubled since then. They call it "Hydraulic Puller Set (25 piece)".
@LordMuck14 күн бұрын
On smaller stuff I prefer the screw type as I can feel the pressure being applied. With bigger stuff I'd normally go hydraulic.
@tomcardale559614 күн бұрын
@@LordMuck fair :) By the time I've got a puller out I'm normally tired and pissed off and am done with things going wonky. That being said, the "I'm done messing, apply all the force" approach does sometimes backfire when it's a left hand thread.

You should be able find a substitute worm drive steering box that might be able to be adapted fairly easy. (something like a heavy duty gate valve worm drive) A 10:1 ratio worm drive box would give you 2.5 revolutions on the steering wheel for a quarter turn on the pitman. So you'd want to think of the ratio you'd like to use.
@briangarden697613 күн бұрын
a rebuild would depend on the state off the worm on the shaft,but still a good wee dumper

Disassemble it first to determine the amount of damage to the box. Is the damage so bad that this is a non-reparable unit of could it be made to function with some minor new parts? E.G. Would it still function , but not like a brand new unit if rebuilt?
