@@OffSheGoesADV Most of what others have posted in the form of video clips etc has been from the Northern island, and I just felt that THAT place is amazing, but now you've been to both and I think the southern island is top notch too. It would be near impossible to pick a true favourite. If I had to live there I would most likely roam them both and pick a place in the south of the Northern island - smack dead in the middle kind of.

I was never afraid of heights . Now I am terrified. I totally see what you mean, especially on 2 wheels. My first bungy was the Skippers. Road is definitely sketchy as. Was in the back of the van crapping myself looking down the drop. But after the bungy and the ride back wasn't a drama at all. Fell asleep lol. Central Otago is the most beautiful place on the planet

Stunning episode 🥰... and a very important "lesson". Knowing AND act on your limitations, in your case the scare for heights and the decision to turn back. How many of us have struggled thru a similar experience and thought afterwards " I schouldn't have done that" or the "never again". From my own experience🙋‍♂: don't let ignorance or ego fool you, when feeling uncomfortable ... stop and/or turn back. Driving while sick, driving way to fast on unfamiliar roads, goiing on a offroad trip that's beyond your skills .. biking is supposed to be fun, not a source of possible mishaps. Not meant as a rant, but as an important consideration for a safe and joyfull travel ... and Runa, besides taking us on your amazing trip thru a majestic New Zealand, thanks for sharing it all 👌🥰👍

There is a network of riders here that will offer suggestions and even places to stay - though I know you prefer your own company. Runa, you have no need to apologies for being a woose and turning back on Skippers Road. I definitely would have needed a change of underwear on that part where you said a really naughty word! I think it takes greater courage to turn back over the route that terrified you, instead of pressing on in the blind hope it would get better going forwards. Thank you for taking one for the team so we couch chair 'heros' could see a part of our country very few Kiwis will ever see in person. Yes I know precisely how you feel about heights, as I used to suffer from them myself till I had to overcome them, working out on the North Sea on the Brent Delta Oil Platform, where to get about one had to walk on catwalks with the raging seas pounding the verticals 60 meters below. It was do or die and to make the bigger money, over come all fears.

I understand heights Runa. Drove a goat trail up to a 12k ft valley in the Sierra Nevada's and lucky only encountered one vehicle going other way. I hugged the bank n made them go around, not an option nor bus rider here!!. Only thing close are the sand flies. Nope!!

@@OffSheGoesADV Aye totally makes sense, evidence is plain to see you've really come out of your shell. Not just an olympian bada$$ but a personality too! You set a good example to brilliant characters everywhere that hide in plain sight. I'd probably call my camera a name like Tom Hanks' Wilson in Cast Away, I'd have to have that 'gateway' mechanism so I could let 'me' out. I'd call her Dr Freestone as though she was an honest adventurer whom I could let my guard down with!

Good to be back! Can definitely recommend a stop at Bracken Hall, good coffee and an assortment of cakes 😇 My tent is the Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL 2. I've had it since the beginning of 2022 and still love it! Have used it in all sorts of conditions, and it has held up great. To this day have not been wet in it.

It's a doddle in Summer, I knew a guy who lived in there and communted to his job in Queenstown every day. Only thing I would say is that it's not recomended with road tyres......... Don't forget Macetown if you want to get your feet wet....
