I’m curious - how often do you prioritize the health of your feet and finding the best shoes to support your lifestyle?
Well, if you’re like me… probably not a whole lot. That’s why I’ve invited Steven Sashen - a Masters All-American Sprinter and entrepreneur who says the key to healthy feet, better posture, and improved athletic performance has to do with “natural movement”.
Steven introduces us to Xero Shoes - a shoe that mimics going barefoot, and why it outperforms other popular running shoes. He also shares tips for regaining your form and connecting to your roots to optimize your athletic performance.
On this episode you’ll learn:
-Why your SHOES may actually be harming your health
- The BIGGEST mistake a major shoe company made (and they still regret it today)
- How this common type of shoe may actually be changing your brain!
- Why you do NOT need an arch for proper foot support and cushion
- How this shoe mistake can lead to a shorter life (almost everyone is doing it)
- How making this ONE change could help you optimize your exercise and experience better results
- How walking barefoot can improve your balance reflexes
- Why you should stay away from THIS common shoe brand
- The shoe brand that is changing the future of shoes (they’re incredibly comfortable and great for overall health)
- 3 exercise ANYONE can do to strengthen their feet and improve their balance (you can even do them while brushing your teeth)
- What big shoe companies don’t want you to know - and why you should avoid wearing them at all costs
Enjoy the comfort and benefits of natural movement xeroshoes.com/
This episode is sponsored by Xeroshoes, but Dr. Gundry’s opinions are his own.

That is enlightening. I'm 61, have knee pain in my right knee here in the desert from walking on a local trail. Spend a lot of time at the beach in California and walk barefoot up/down the beach, 3.5 mile circuit twice daily and no pain in my knees whatsoever. I know what I shall be doing later this afternoon.

Hey Dr. Gundry, Your host gets an A+ for being very OBJECTIVE and not drawing conclusions based on his or others OPINIONS. He always admits where the data / research doesn't prove his concept, but it logically makes sense i.e. less cramped shoes to avoid bunions etc.

This is the PERFECT video for me to be absorbing right now! January 3rd I quickly developed planters, Achilles and tibialis tendinitis. Fast forward to now I have done 6 physical therapy sessions, two podiatrist appointments, 2 sets of orthopedic inserts and a pair of $160 hoka. My right foot is still not showing signs of getting better. So I’m talking probably close to 1,500 dollars worth of therapy in the last 6 weeks. My NEXT purchase will be a pair of XEROS.

Thank you so much for this podcast. I spent half my childhood dancing in ballet pumps which are dead flat and 'feelsome', and normal shoes always felt restrictive. Recently I came across some wetsuit shoes in a local store, and the balance and body efficacy I felt when dancing came flooding back. I do a lot of 'grounding' just because I like the feeling of bare feet and being in touch with the earth, but having discovered barefoot shoes, I would not go back to heels and thick soles.
@StarBeam-gn3wo
@StarBeam-gn3wo 6 ай бұрын
But grounding should be barefoot any shoes you wear will stop the telluric energy going into your body. I agree the wetsuit shoes are good for walking or running but grounding is meant to be barefoot.the only shoes for grounding would need to be espadrilles or something that's not rubber

OMG !!! THIS IS AMAZING TIMINING TO WATCH !!! While watching this video it ignited message signals of release in my legs from the bottom of my feet felt sooooo good !!! Very very happy feeling info reminding me how good my whole body balance would be when barefoot, wearing my moccasins or flipper sandals around on the beach, on a grassed park, on the country trails. Going dancing in real stilettos is ok and fun but after always back to natural foot care I always had good posture and could sprint with no issues too!! Thanks soooooo much for this interview Dr. Gundry & Steven Sashen. I am going back to 'barefoot' strides ...YAY !!!! 😎💯💖👍🦶🐬

Watched this video yesterday and bought a pair of Xero HFS shoes today. Wore them home and my feet felt great. I could actually feel my whole foot working/flexing from heel to toe with each step. Cost me $208 including tax at a minimal footwear store in Toronto Canada. So happy for this video. Great going gentlemen. Excellent information and advice. Put my $395 orthopedic sandals with the 3" soles in the back of the closet. Probably for good. 😂

Great video....a lot to think about when it comes to boots & sneakers as I always get them good thick soles. But make sure they aren't stiff and inflexible too. I walk around inside the house and out in the yard without shoes all the time and down the beach...no shoes, always barefoot. Grounding !! I have no trouble with my feet and maybe thy is why. Barefoot and natural. I will try to find shoes that are flat to give them a go with walking. I am almost 71, haven't worn heals in a long time. I don't slouch or have foot or leg problems. I think walking around barefoot has done this. Thus, shoes like that should work the same. Great, enlightening video.

I run and walk a lot I would never have a barefoot shoe it's very uncomfortable and bothers my feet over time. I however found a good light soft cushioned sneaker with an arch helps me tremendously and I have no foot problems at all. Also my feet look brand new which is amazing I'm almost 60 and walk 28k steps a day.

What a great video and what a super-interesting guest! As a child I got chased a couple of times, by bigger kids, who wanted to beat me up. I immediately and without any conscious thought kicked off my shoes to run barefoot (well, sock-foot). They couldn’t catch me and I got home safely. I’ve always thought that was a weird thing to have done on hard, dirty roads, but it was clearly an instinct and I definitely ran faster than my pursuers.

If I were to wear flat hard shoes, I would be in such an immense pain, I probably couldnt walk. My feet are not shaped into anything by bad shoes, I pay attention to comfy form, it must be light weight, provide ample room for the toes, no high heels or similar nonsense. Any transgretion against this and I will pay for it with immense pain. As such finding shoes is a difficult task, I am female. However, my shoes need to be padded, or I will be dying in pain within 2-3 hours. I CANNOT wear flat hard shoes, tried that over and over, the result being the same, horrible pain and even inflamation of the muscles and tendons that attach to the inside of the heel. No ammount of trying to get used to flat hard shoes helped. So sorry, this information is incorrect. And I dont care what doctors say, experts recommend, none of that matters to me. What matters to me is what I can clearly observe in reality. That said, I dont run, so this only applies to me walking and I do a lot of walking.

After one year and a half, adaptation to zero drop and wide toe box is not complete, I still have reflexes of putting heel firs and it feels extremely bad as it should. Walking at a street normal pace still feels unnatural to me. What feels the best is just chilling at an upper rythm, like half jogging. That feels natural. When i slip on a slippery surface and I can recover, that feels natural, not falling makes me feel like superman. I have not yet found that walking method where I should put the side of the palm first down; I can do it but it feel forced.

@StarBeam-gn3wo
@StarBeam-gn3wo 6 ай бұрын
I personally have observed that people will always try to find excuses to charge us more, so they will say this is better because it has more padding , same with pillows , these pillows are worth spending more money on because they are so much plumper, but just as with the shoes they aren't thinking about our health, they're thinking how to extract more money from us and a selling point to do that. I happen to think pillows are very bad for us because our spine is no longer aligned with our head. I prefer the flattest pillow possible and would never use 2 pillows apart from if I'm sat up in bed reading. If you think back to when we used to sleep on floors which is actually the healthiest way, we put something to tale off the coldness the floor and the hardness that's all. It's not necessary and not good for us to be so thickly padded. The same with shoes seems to be true and it makes sense.
