Like, 2d is fine, but it's the 3d scene that is seriously lacking competition. Somehow DOA and even SC kept slowly falling over the years and failed to keep the status they had in their early versions, then VF didnt fall in quality or recognition but literally stopped getting sequels. Meanwhile TK kept growing, especially since 7, and that created a big gap between the game and all other 3d rivals. We don't find this kind of gap in the 2d fg scene.

To be honest VF stopped being impactful around VF5, even if it was technically well made. In the beginning VF was one of the most important games of the whole generation, not limited to the fg genre, but at some point after the 3rd game it lost that power. But anyways the main point is correct that VF was about looking ahead.

They talked about making the singleplayer mode all about the story around the fights, and if anyone can pull if off its the Like A Dragon LADs. No matter how outlandish the story in those can get the emotion from the big fights ALWAYS gets me.
@carlosaugusto982110 күн бұрын
That's very interesting about the possible implications that VF might jump from a game that always had plain presentation, almost no work on story and characters... to a game with the best single player experience of the whole fg genre. Because RGG/Like a Dragon are experts on the field, unlike the average responsibles for writing the story and designing other single player modes in fgs.

Maybe the company is motivated to work on DOA. But then the bad performance of DOA6 proves that any modern fg demands a lot of effort in hopes of getting some attention. And even that can easily fail... just like VF itself lost to TK in popularity. The DOA devs will have to be serious about it, more than ever before. Like what i believe that Sega is doing with VF6.

Oh come on.. When VF5 fs cameout it was 14 $ and if you wanted full customization and extrad modes you paid 30.. Are yu talking about other companies's monetization ?
@carlosaugusto982113 күн бұрын
@@michaelromeo9567 You can't say anything in their defense about this topic, because all other old fg companies started from the same point and eventually got used to dlc and stuff. First there was none in every game, and now it's this nightmare where it's impossible to get a game with the complete roster for $60/70. First, Harada said in an old interview that he would never make the player pay for dlc characters and stages, or else he would quit working on TK... and now look at the things he is approving on the game. The whole genre literally turned to that model... with the only difference that NRS, Capcom and Bandai Namco just are greedier than others. But SNK and Arc Systems also have dlc planned before release in yearly cycles. GGST started with a very small roster and is doing a 4th dlc season now. And SNK's Samurai Shodown returned after 10+ years and it got 3 dlc seasons. And the situation of VF is that it was simply stuck in 2006, when dlc wasn't a strong practice in the fg scene yet. But what about now? Do you really believe VF will be literally the only game to avoid that? Nowadays i think it's impossible to escape from that. What goes with these VF5 versions isn't exactly an accurate idea of what will be done with VF6. So there's no way to assume anything for now. I just hope the dlc stuff doesn't turn out as bad as what Bandai Namco does.

this is exactly what we want for the PROS! All moves, blocks, reversals, and combos should be connectable and stoppable at any moment, a full control version for pro fighters, and an auto-assist system for beginners to have a huge margin for progression and appeal to all audiences and skill levels. This game is going to be incredible in terms of merit, and imagine the high-level fights! This is exactly what I'm doing in one of my projects! The principle of this new Virtua Fighter is to cancel everything, chain afterwards, and if it works, all moves should be connectable to each other, potentially leading to combos at any moment. This is exactly "my project" and it's pure, real, natural fighting, nothing more, nothing less... In principle, there should be a punch button, a kick button, a guard button, and a charge button for connections. There will surely be an option to facilitate the game with an AI counter mode that can be activated or deactivated. In VF, the timing of the buttons and the duration of the press play a role. They will create a consistent version for beginners and disable certain auto-scripts for combat and/or defense gradually to reach the widest audience. Having a chain reaction of moves seems unlikely because the connections follow a human logic and/or a kata-type could be more accurate. The connections are effective only in the logic of the kata and what is also possible to do in reality! I'm not sure if the idea is well expressed. In any case, it's on this principle that I have to create my little fighting game, ultra simple graphically but extremely coherent. Unfortunately, it seems that this VF is going to do exactly what I wanted to implement...

@Longlostpuss15 күн бұрын
I understand your scepticism based on the recent gaming market, but this is SEGA and OGG Studios were are talking about. If you saw the full presentation before the reveal, you will know SEGA are VERY serious about this next iteration of VF and its resurgence. Even if they probably won't get it to play exactly like that concept demo, you had better believe they will have all their resources and teams in with their white coats and clipboards to come up with a way to get as close as possible. They've even reassembled their old AM2 team. This next VF is going to be the real deal, SEGA are giving off 90's vibes this time, they know the franchise never really had a true successor to VF2 and VF3, which were ground breaking at the time of their releases. The franchise has been neglected for too long and even the last 2 VF4 and VF5 didn't have the same level of technological advancement as the previous two games, even though they were decent VFs in their own right. SEGA acknowledge they need to go back to what brought them to the dance and give us a true successor to Virtua Fighter 3, that level of advancement. It's an exciting time.

@Longlostpuss15 күн бұрын
@@animator1982 The footage of this latest clip was apparently EARLIER than the one we saw of the reveal trailer, so all SEGA are telling us here is what they are aiming for, they're just showing you a little bit more. The original reveal will be closer to what the real life gameplay implementation will probably look like, but I have no doubt they are trying to get as close to that concept demo as practically possible within the limits of human reaction times and requisite button presses.

@studivan But showing the sequence of footage in this order just causes confusion and could affect the marketing of the game. I think Sega wanted VF to be announced at the TGAs, so they reached out to Geoff, but Geoff wanted footage that represents actual gameplay for his show, so he paid them to get that footage when the former footage was probably offered. When looking at the concept footage from CES and comparing it to the actual gameplay at TGA, they are coming very close to what the CES concept footage looks to be. Despite memory and processing power increasing significantly over the last two generations, animation hasn't really improved anywhere near the same extent in fighting games. From the two trailers, it looks like animation and defense reactions are a major focus of the game.

This opinion might sound controversial to old schoolers but i think VF needs to become easier somehow to enhance its appeal beyond the small bubble of the same community that still cares about it in the 2020s. That community is too small to sustain a next gen fg and these products keep getting more expensive to make in every new generation. Maybe not easier in the way that SF6 or TK8 did, but something has to be done. The base gameplay isn't welcoming at all... and like it or not, the fact is that this traditional game design isn't meant to last any more in the current era. Where the gameplay design is very hardcore and "proud" of being challenging and the players feel so empowered to have mastered it. Well, the hardcore VF is now at the bottom of the food chain of 3d fgs, the only one that didn't get a ps4 sequel... so what's the point of being so hardcore if it stays at that miserable place? The VF devs need to rethink the gameplay very carefully and make it easier but trying their best to avoid a divisive outcome like TK8 and GGST, regarding old x new players.
