The discussion on instructions was really interesting. GW should follow the lego model, where they have physical instructions, but you can also scan a QR code where you can find instructions on the app. The app lets you rotate a 3D model of whatever you're looking at, at the stage of building you're up to, with the pieces added in that step highlighted. It's been a godsend in some of the more complex sets i've built.

I think from Joe's point on quality of GW minis. They are a miniature company first with a game attached expressly to sell models, whereas these other games are typically games with models included.

The feeling that there is a "lore appropriate" way to paint is very much a 40k issue. AoS has farm more creative space. Possibly because it's a newer setting but also less explicitly militarized compared to 40k

My problem is, after 20 years I'm sick of painting gw miniatures. They still the best miniatures on the market BUT they've becoming too much covered in little details that are impossible to ignore. It's impossible to cut corners for me on a gw model. Also even the high quality of gw cannot justify their prices nowadays. Also I completely agree with the " self expectation " that gw quality carries with them. I painted a whole army of giant from Reaper miniatures and I can't stress enough how much satisfying and relaxing was painting them. Also enjoying a lot of quality of latest mantic games miniatures, especially for their price. And they're really wonderful to paint❤

Malifaux and Kingdom Death plastics are excellent, definitely worth checking out quality-wise. Although Infinity stuff is mainly metal, the newer stuff goes together beautifully and the detail on those is fantastic.

Speaking of non-GW miniatures, I am absolutely in love with the "official" minis for the Frostgrave game, by Wargames Atlantic. All of the kits use the same base rig, so all heads, arms, equipment etc is interchangeable between the different kits, so you can build pretty much whatever, and its great!

Also on the 'best' minis thing, their kits take longer to build and require more clean up that other minis, and I find over fiddly in detail. So I am always puzzled by that assertion

Galen and Doralia ven Denst are two witchunters who are a father and daughter team which are the lead of two novels from Black Library - "Hallowed Ground" and "Temple of Silence". not unlike the more well know Callis and Toll.

I'm a painter rather than a gamer so have miniatures from loads of different places: historical figures from the likes of Perry and Victrix, fantasy and sci-fi from Infinity, Hasslefree, Titan Forge, Zealot, Mierce etc. I love GW figures - the sculpts are amazing and the quality is really high but I do wish they'd make some figures that are a bit less fussy, simpler figures with less stuff on them. It's not their business model, which is very much getting people to buy armies, but I'd love it if GW did a range of characters and monsters that was aimed at role playing - the kind of thing Citadel did when they were first founded.

Ive just started to 3d print to lower the cost of my self training as had to retire from mechanic/body repair and mot testing, do you all come to bad moon for the 2 days painting lessons ? Would love to meet all of you at some point, I used to come into essex over the past 13 or so years but that was mainly old Harlow,the drag strip rwyb and kotr at Essex arena. I don't know if I would say boring, maybe more safe, but in the last 3 years I have rarely been excited by any GW releases. All are well crafted, and there are very few I would say I dislike, I am ambivalent which is perhaps worse. I don't know if that is a decision to take less creative risks. Or a consequence of CAD allowing multiple tweaks and iterations meaning creating a design by committee and models being over designed

I have various games that that ive bought just to get miniatures to paint, gaming is not a big thing for me as ive so many ailments atm , my most recent the clone wars from star wars, im a big fan of star wars to ❤ , i got the epic encounters for 20 quid just because it had 28 miniatures, they look good, my modelling career and painting career . If i can afford it I'll come to Bad moon for a quarterly Paint and building session to met an great , i was at bad moon yesterday, i went for pizza and a bit of Xmas retail therapy, i have bought a Tau Xmas jumper to keep me warm 😂 good excuse to spend and reasonably priced at £30

I'd like to add to the GW building instructions point. The sprue layout for GW kits is trash. Put all the parts for 1 mini next to the body. Hours for wasted Hobby time looking for tiny parts.

As for the primer issue, if you’re going with GW sprays, they’re “Model Paint”, and not actually primer 😉
