We subscribed to WinReality for well over a year and saw improvements in my son’s game at the plate. It is highly useful if you can’t get outside or regular time in the cage. Nice Black Magic. Oddly, I’ve hung on to mine from 1990. Iconic relic.

I’ve just started playing slow pitch in a casual coed league this year, and poked around the internet for a bat…found that model with the throwback Black Magic styling and had to do it.

My son uses this at home. I like seeing how his swing changes, like an "oh crap" swing, when facing a tough pitcher. We can then put in more work on fundamentals to correct it.

I have taken quite a few of those swings as well…especially at higher velos

I’m on the fence with this game. I cranked it up to 95+ my first time using it cause I’ve never faced anything above 90 and I started hitting all these nice line drives and home runs, which is weird cause I haven’t swung a bat in ages. How would you be doing that well if you weren’t a pro? So I think there’s just some unrealistic things about ball path and swing tracking.

I imagine your ability to swing through a hit (applying strength to reduce recoil) is a big factor for consequent energy transfer to a baseball. VR likely can't model your body's muscular response, grip, and whatever else that will affect final ball speed, but it can model swing speed and point-of-contact. I'd guess this is still very good at training ball contact and modeling exit trajectory. Just not exit speed.

hopefully this answers your question. Click your profile you should see options like choosing softball or baseball, timing between pitches etc. There is an option i think its called contact window the smaller the window the harder to hit the ball the larger the window the easier it is to hit hrs and linedrives.

What ways do you train pitch recognition? It was always hard for us to find ways to do this with hitters at my old academy…pitchers aren’t ready to throw full-speed most of the off-season…

Playing catch with my boys. I would throw a two seam versus a four and have them call it out. We would make a game out of it and just do that while we were playing catch. Doing that every time we played catch, I think helped them recognize ball spin as they got older. (did this when they were 9-10) Still do it now just to have fun.

I really can’t comment on what other people should do, but I personally did not experience any motion sickness or dizziness or anything. Totally fine for me.

Thanks Coach Dan. Love all your videos. Did you try the "short" bat? My kid is 10U, has been begging me to try this out, but I don't want him inside the house proper with a real bat (four year old sister walking around and major renovations already paid for last few years!). He could use garage though for regular bat. Just wondering if you or anyone tried the short bat? Also, do they have velos / pitches appropriate for a 10U player?
@DanBlewett
@DanBlewett 11 ай бұрын
I have not tried the short bat, but I do think using a real bat is one of the big perks. But, the controller weights 4.5 ounces and I definitely feel it, especially on my wood bat - it bumps the weight of that sucker from 33/31 to 33/35.5, which is like swinging a log. And yes on 10U - they have speeds in the low 50s - a ton of little league pitchers. Reaction time there still feels fast - the easiest for me was the HS pitchers throwing in the high 70s/80s

Great video.. During that segment where you are Hitting in a situation. Does the AI adjust pitches based on the count? Or does it feel more random than a true game simulation?

@@DanBlewett legit question, I’m also wondering. No need to look into it… the Q is based on you using it yourself, did you agree with the pitches that were thrown under that certain count. Kids should be learning that aspect & this game could help teach it. If the pitches are random & you don’t agree with the pitch thrown in most of the situations, it may do more harm than good for situational pitching.

Dear coach, I am 16 and i pitch at 55-60 Mph only. I am very weak. If i start following your tips and do training properly, how much speed i can increase within 4-6 months? Is 4-6 months enough to have significant improvement? Kindly answer. In how many months i will start seeing significant improvement. Kindly reply

55-60 at 16 is very below average to be really honest, but, you need to spend the next 4-6 months in the weight room rather than the field to be honest with you .

I wish they'd offer a lifetime purchase for this. I don't agree with a SAS subscription model for an app this straightforward. I'm getting a Quest 3 for the kids this Christmas so we'd be a candidate to purchase. Some of my adult league teammates have used it and have given me good feedback on the timing and pitch recognition features. With a Quest 3 you could theoretically take this out to a real field for some AR batting practice.
@DanBlewett
@DanBlewett 11 ай бұрын
From what I’ve heard about the quest 3, the other advantage is the pancake lenses - which would allow you to look out of the corner of your eyes with the same clarity. Not a big deal but my head position isn’t the same as it would be in real life with the Quest 2. Corner of the eye peripheral vision is important in both pitching and hitting

@@DanBlewett That's good to know. I was very tempted by the now cheap Quest 2, but my kids won't shut up about the color pass-through on the AR cameras.

I'm surprised there isn't a sensation or vibration through the bat upon contact. If it's a fair or foul ball it would help with the immersive aspect. This doesn't seem to be a hard feature to simulate and add on even in an update. Anyway, this seems like a cool device but, I do wonder how realistic it is when the "average joe" can simulate hitting a MLB pitcher.
@DanBlewett

it's extremely hard to make decent contact when the pitcher in the app is 90+ with a three pitch mix. very hard.

It is probably better than nothing, but I'd rather lean hard towards real life training if the weather conditions permit. VR headsets are not recommended for 30+ min training sessions and there's a difference in the accommodation and vergence requirements between the two.

Well sure - I wouldn’t recommend replacing the opportunity to hit real pitching - but there aren’t that many ways to supplement, and access to game-ready pitchers who can throw full-speed to a hitter…it’s rare. If you want to go hit live pitching on a random Tuesday night…who’s going to throw to you? That’s the problem this helps to solve.
