This explains… I had very bad bunions and had surgery on both feet when I was 23. (44 yrs ago!) I have had physical therapy on my right hip as I was having trouble walking the past few years. Thankfully I’ve had much improvement. I still have to work on it though through stretches. I’m guessing my hips were the causative issue from birth. I love knowing the hip to feet relationship. Thank you for your videos.

There are so many possible reasons for bunions but hips can be a huge one! Thanks for your kind words!

Absolutely life changing video!!!!! Thank you for putting this video out and titling exactly what you did! I’ve been shocked over a ‘what I thought was’ a random bunion and just couldn’t accept that it would just appear and be localized. I then thought hmmm the back of my knee sometimes hurts …then tracing back I stopped in my tracks having that intuitive hit .. ‘oh my god my hip!!’ I’ve had new hip problems for 3 -4 years from newly sitting and this is such a crazy lightbulb moment!!!!! Thank you thank you !! Question… will /can the bunion be corrected as the hip/knee are corrected? My goodness thank you for such a perfect helpful video! I’m checking out your classes and tutorials now! 🦵🏼🦵🏼🦵🏼🦶🦶🦶💕💕💕💕

That's awesome! There are definitely many ways to overload the first metatarsal and hip stuff is for sure one of them. And it's hard to say exactly what you'll notice in terms of change, because it depends on exactly what's already happened in your foot - bunions can lead to bony changes which are considered to be permanent. So I'd say until you get a change in the bone, yes, you can decrease or potentially eliminate the bunion. After a bony change you can still improve function and feeling, and stop the advancement of the changes - so I'd say it's still very much worth working on!

This explains my issue! I have a bunion forming on my right foot only. Does this mean i have decreased internal rotation on my right side?

Possibly - there are a number of reasons for bunions and that's only one of them, but it's worth investigating!

I totally have this mobility issue! Bunion on left foot. Decreased internal rotation on left side vs right side. And when laying on my back on the floor the angle between the floor and my left foot is much smaller than on the right side. Besides doing those standing, one legged, hip-flexed internal/external rotations exercises, how else can I restore internal rotation in my left side? I've also tried stretching in internal rotation like a 90-90 floor strectch, but this often just results in numbness/sciatica type pain in my butt...

Sounds like 90/90 is too much for your body right now, it’s a pretty extreme ROM for most people. You can set up in any IR focused stretch and then do it as a PAILS/RAILs to work on this - one option I really love is frog position. Certainly having a CARs practice would be a great start on this and then for other set ups, taking Kinstretch is a great way to learn alternatives. Does that help?

Is it possible that the bunion cause hip rotation ? I had a bunion formed before the hip rotation .

I'm not sure what you mean, but ideally your hips should have rotation capacity that gets used every step you take when you're walking. Although a lack of hip rotation can contribute to bunions forming, there are a number of biomechanical reasons they can happen - most typically from wearing conventional footwear.
