It's amazing but to learn it properly it really takes a deeper dive, so I have a course on it. You can also google CARs routine on YT and learn it from someone else but I created the course so you could learn it really well and get support along the way :) www.petrafishermovement.com/joints-for-life/

I am 66 and was diagnosed with osteoporosis last year. I'm angry. Not a single doctor who discussed osteopenia with me when I had it, ever said it was a chance to get ahead of the game. They prescribed Actonel, which I could not take, and told me to take calcium. I did, for many years, lift weights and ran, so I was doing the things that help without knowing but, if I had known, it might have made a bigger impact on my "preparedness." Thank you for this video and for discussing rebounders - I never believed they helped with bone density.

@PetraFisherMovement
@PetraFisherMovement 18 күн бұрын
Habit change is always the hard part! I'd maybe think about ways to learn about movement and practice movement intentionally - resources like my mailing list, taking classes or reading books such as Move Your DNA by Katy Bowman can all help raise your awareness and enthusiasm for moving. Phone alarms are also good :)

This was great. I have a L2 compression fx from osteoporosis and weight lifting. I am now taking forteo. I have been very active my whole life, so this came as a surprise to me. I am 66. I also have runner's dystonia which effects my walking so double whammy for impact activity. I have started weight training again and appreciate the education re: what I should not be doing. I guess I have to stop doing flip turns in the pool. 😞
@PetraFisherMovement
@PetraFisherMovement 21 күн бұрын
It's always tough to get an unexpected diagnosis - my understanding from Alison is that the broader causes of osteoporosis aren't entirely understood so (for instance) it could be a genetic or a nutrient absorption issue more than a loading one for you. Flip turns definitely sound like they may not be very helpful :(

I'm sorry to hear about your fractures! It really is so startling when the diagnosis comes on the heels of an active lifestyle. And yes, flip turns wouldn't be my first choice!

How would you modify exercises if you have a prolapse or pelvic floor issues??
@PetraFisherMovement
@PetraFisherMovement 22 күн бұрын
really depends on the exercise you're talking about - there are few universals - but the key is to learn how to engage your core in a lower pressure way. My Pelvic Floor+ program is a great place to learn that if you don't have lower bone density. I'm not sure if there's an online pelvic floor focused course for folks with lower bone density but you could check on that with Alison or work 1-1 with someone

A ratio of effort to result…
@GN-xx9pu
@GN-xx9pu 23 күн бұрын
So… it’s a big deal when you twlk about what owrcentsge of what we doninfluences our body to add bone densiry. You reffered to acretio of effort to influence but it was not robydtly explsined. The littke i know sbout this has to do with muscle building… andcit breaks down to brsin messaging. There is a threshold you need to cross for the brsin to go: “Oh Gosh! Guess I need to add tissue because heres q new load ill have to be respondingvto”… is thst the swne kind ofcthingceith bine drnsity? Can you make it more clear? You said something like only the first 60 steps of a walk register to the body for bone huilding… hmm?
@PetraFisherMovement
@PetraFisherMovement 21 күн бұрын
Yes, about 60 cycles of impact are valuable and after that the body stops hearing them - Alison is trying to track down the particular study she was referring to but a lot of the literature points to the fact that the body needs novel inputs in order to increase bone density. This is a good article and refers to more that say this as well:www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6429007/ . There's certainly going to be a threshold you have to cross as well - that's why you need progressively increasing resistance for weight training - but I expect that's going to depend on what your particular normal levels of activity are.
