Some great points here! I’ve been guilty of taking ‘street view’ images in the past, however I have since made a transition in my thinking. I now look at scenes and actually tell myself not to photograph people simply walking by, also to consider whether there is a scene or something interesting there. It’s a work in progress, but the progress is happening.

You are so right that today everyone has a camera in their pocket so us guys with a `proper' camera have to be a bit more on the ball in terms of creating at a different level. Your close in street portraits are a very good example of being above the rest and that is something we all need to aspire too. Creating something a little bit different. Great thoughts again mate. 🙂

Yeah watching the films with good cinema photography and how they see the world around them is a good point of view learning from them and putting that into your photography when shooting the streets. Not snapping but observing the subjects and the surrounding when taking the image. Like you said in the video CCTV does this recording of pictures every day people walking down the street. Also Google maps. We need to think outside the box 👍🥊🎈📷👌

Insightful post, for me some of my favourite photographers are from past times, Saul Leiter, Bob Carlos Clarke and Helmut Newton. The last two because of the work they produced and style of images they were treated like rockstars. Their talent and creativity for one thing, but also they had cameras and not everyone had the money to buy a camera. Todays world we have millions of photos being taken every second of the day, everyone owns a camera, albeit on their phones. Everyone is a photography and its become oversaturation and fits in well with your comments about the world being smaller know that we can easily travel.
@LASHMAR3 ай бұрын
@@steverolfe1935 well it’s oversaturated with shite. Everyone has a camera. Not everyone is a photographer. In fact it’s easier now to make money from photography simply because people see so many bad photographs that they have to search long and hard for a good one

But times are changing all the time. Look at back in the day when photographers used to shoot people interacting. Nowadays its all head done stuck in the phones. So when we seen images of people talking. Very rarely done today, its like they are all stuck in their little worlds with their heads in their phones.

@LASHMAR but it's just another thing to show times have changed. Been as they weren't around 40/50 yrs ago. Unless you were a time traveller 😂
@LASHMAR5 ай бұрын
@@cyrilstheone mate you are missing the point entirely. like we don’t have to show people now in the future. People don’t look back on time in the same way. They won’t. because of media. watching a movie years ago at the cinema you’d have to wait 5 years to watch it on tv. Now you can watch it at home more or less the same day. recording time isn’t something that is required anymore simply because everything is recording time. Everywhere you go people are recording time on their own phones by accident when they take a picture of themselves in front of a pub on a night out and post it on instagram. 100 years ago there was probably 1000 cameras being operated around the world. Now there are over 2 billion I think you’ve missed the point of the video mate

Thank you Gary, as always, for this video. Man, your XPRO moving back and forth was distracting. After a while it was annoying for me. Sorry mate. Point taken about street photography needs to progress. As you point out, with your XPRO, time moves on. Almost everyone has a phone with a camera. The barrier to entry has dramatically changed. Now almost everyone can be a photographer. We need to strive to improve the quality of our images. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
