I just love it when you break down studies like you did here, it's so interesting ! I'm a psychology student, we are also trained to read and interpret studies and it's difficult to understand them sometimes, so I can't even imagine how harmful it is that people NOT trained to read them critically have access to them ! I totally agree, it is unethical. Same reason psychologists aren't allowed to give uninterpreted test results to their patients, as it could be harmful to them.

I apologize for my ignorance. But I can’t believe I’m actually seeing this; as I didn’t know it was a “thing”. Now when you say, “urinary odor removal from skin”, are you referring to your skin/pores having a urine type of smell?.... I’m 40 years old and I recently started to notice this odor when I wake up in the morning. Although. I’ve not been able to put my finger on it let alone explain it- I just keep referring to it as, “I smell like I’m dying” (knock on wood). Oh my gosh!!... I’m so relieved to know I’m not the only one!! It was really starting to scare me. Is there a name for this, is it common and could it be tied to dehydration? I’d love to hear anything you know about this. Thanks so much!

@@krissymichele There are a few possiblities that come to mind with the odor described, but you'll need to visit your local medical care provider to determine the exact cause. Don't wait and don't worry, just get in for an appointment. Whenever skin/sweat smells of rot, garbage, fish, ammonia, or urea, it's time to check checked out, because something is wrong (though it could be very easy to treat). Best wishes.

These chemical names are scary...!
@ruthie_rosario Жыл бұрын
A lot of those ingredients that you listed are just the actual name of ingredients you’re likely already familiar with. In your list, I immediately noticed shea butter, cocoa butter, vitamin E, a variety of safe hydrating fatty acids, an ingredient that’s a natural alternative to salicylic acid, a humectant, and chemical sunscreen ingredients. If you ever want to know what a specific ingredient is, all you need to do is use a search engine such as Google and type in something like, “What is butyrospermum parkii?”, and you’ll see it’s just shea butter. Or, “What is tocopherol acetate?”, and you’ll discover that it’s just Vitamin E.

You should consider writing a letter to the editor of this journal if you feel the study is misleading about the true efficacy of the ingredients in a real-life usage of sunscreens (I haven't read it). Wow that concept that mistrust of the medical field lasts generations could not be more true. My dad had a sibling with a lot of medical problems/mistakes which has led him to be extremely mistrustful of the medical field even though he himself is in an ancillary medical field. It's so bad it has led him to put off care because he is so convinced that any doctor he sees is going to make a mistake. I am a nurse and try to encourage him and reassure him but nothing works. I have had to work very hard to overcome my tendencies to have a lot of medical anxiety and some of my brothers have started to avoid medical care. Even though none of us have ever personally had a really bad experience. My parents also have some anti vaxxer tendencies so the whole COVID situation has been interesting. Thankfully they did get vaccinated. They are both over 65 and have pre existing medical conditions.

It would be easy to come across that study and immediately feel apprehensive about using zinc oxide. You explained the limitations of the study so beautifully! Thank you! I do have a question about using a zinc oxide powder on top of a separate chemical sunscreen product. I use chemical sunscreen-supergoop unseen sunscreen and use BrushonBlock mineral sunscreen as my last step. And I usually reapply with this mineral sunscreen throughout the day. Is there any way to know if they use Coated zinc oxide? I’d hate to think that by adding this mineral sunscreen that it would somehow be degrading the chemical sunscreen underneath. Since it is not a combination product with chemical and mineral together I’m not sure if there would be any concern over that?

Could you please make a video on how some skin hyperpigmentation is normal? It's really a bit frightening how some people think that any hyperpigmentation means something needs to be fixed.

Dr. Dray, I am sooo confused! I just went shopping at Whole Foods and found “clear zinc oxide.” Is this stuff healthy, effective, and seriously has all the benefits of zinc oxide minus the white cast??? The fact that I’ve never seen you talk about a product with “clear zinc oxide” nor have addressed “uncoated zinc oxide” in the ingredient list, concerns me. So, would you speak on this? I purchased a Badger product for kids. Thank you soooo much! Regine, in South Florida

Thank you so much Dr. Dray! You help so many people with your knowledge & informations! I have 1 question, how effective Spf in sunscreen will be if we apply it on top of oily skin surfaces? I tried to apply sunscreen after good 10 mins thin applied rosehip seed oil. I can see it that sunscreen still can forming a film layer on top of oil, seems like almost no differences when I apply sunscreen after non-oily moisturizer, but not sure how effective Spf rating will be...

I bought some pure lanolin recently, to use on my lips, hands, and arms. It's the best product I've ever found in my life. I would advise anyone to try it.
