I actually work on a building company selling apartments and this part of the episodes have been much fun, But I must tell you what we do, in order to finish some parts of the building we offer an unit in exchange for services, so you could be calling another hermit to finish the building and offer them one apartment as payment...

I think the "london" lamp requires a slab on top of it and some sort of trapdoor on all vertical sides of the glowing block. Then, having the bottom block expanded to be a full block instead of a fence might work better. Yes, I be backseat building over here, I suppose

The murder mystery neighborhood is somewhat reminiscent of the New Orleans French Quarter.. Tightly packed, bright colors, hanging shrubbery and balconies... the hodgepodge blend of French and Spanish architecture. If you haven't already, you might find some inspiration there.
