Absolutely. Volk didn't do anything wrong. He didn't make some horrendous mistake that he can work on and correct. His arm was in a good defensive position. It would have taken the worst sting off 95% of head kicks. Islam just threaded the needle with a beautiful precise head kick.

I think part of the pressure weighing on Volk and making him uncomfortable with not fighting is that he got to the game late. And he's very conscious, and has mentioned it several times, that he's only got another year or two left in his physical prime if he's lucky. And he really wants to make the most of it. To cement his legacy. To set his family up for life. And he doesn't want to take his foot off the gas pedal.

I think it’s easy for your life’s work to cross over and become your whole life in your mind. It’s like how some people break down and struggle to function after getting out of prison or leaving the military: finding yourself out of fight camp or a similar system where you had so much constant structure or sense of meaning can really affect people.
