I’m was a soldier and when my son deployed to Afghanistan the first time I had to help him plan his funeral. This was one of the songs he wanted. The others were The Star Spangled Banner, and The Army song. After his first tour he became a Ranger. On his 4th deployment he was in an IED incident that killed one Ranger and wounded severely the other 4 one of them being my son! I cry every time I hear this song because it came so close to being a reality for me. He was lucky enough to come home after Jump school and see his son born, but he left for Alaska 3 days later and deployed 5 weeks after that the first time. He survived his injuries. But I can only thank God this song was my not reality.

I watch a video of this song yearly on Memorial Day weekend. I never fail to cry. I don't have any family or friends that died in the service, but I have so much love and respect for them. Even though your video is the 2nd time listening to the song today, I had tears watching your reaction. When you couldn't even get your words out by the end, I was bawling. This song came out around the time I came home from my first deployment to Iraq back in 2005 is when I came home after 18 months and this song breaks me emotionally and can't listen to it....I just tried and I still cant. This one hurts to deep maybe one day. It's crazy how a song can bring up memories and emotions you thought you had stuffed down and buried long ago but as soon as you hear the lyrics it's as if it happened yesterday

Jason, God Bless you and I’m so glad you made it back❤️❤️. My oldest son went into the Marines fresh out of high school in 2002 and was in Iraq 8 months later. Thank God our prayers for him were answered and he survived the firefights over there as well. I was wanting to play this for him but was afraid it would bring him too much sadness and after reading what you said, I don’t think I will play it for him…it will just bring everything back (not to mention one of his close buddies wasn’t so lucky. I pray that your heart heals.❤️❤️

A whole lot of us wrote one of those "if you're reading this" letters to someone before we went into the fire. I sent one to my sister to be given to my parents if I got dusted over there. I got a bit dinged and dented, but came home walking, talking, and breathing. When I got home, my sister handed it back to me without a word, I destroyed it.

That is such an amazing song, I do have a request with a bit of my story should you find time to do a reaction video to it. The song is "Camouflage and Christmas Lights" By Rodney Carrington. As we move into the holiday season this is a song that hits close to home for me. I am currently serving in the Middle East with the US Army again, in 2005 a few months after I graduated High School I remember spending my first Christmas Eve as an adult landing at Baghdad Intl Airport in a C-130 singing Christmas carols with the men that became my brothers on my first Combat Tour in Iraq. Not all of those Brothers made it home with us that year, and I went on to do 2 more Combat tours in Iraq totaling 39 months. One of my brothers on the plane with me that night was Cpl. Brock Bucklin that died just before my birthday that following year. I recently found out that his Hero's Flight (Being brought home by his twin brother also Cpl Bucklin) was the inspiration behind the charity 'Folds of Honor' that helps give scholarships to Gold Star Kids (the children of Service Members that died in battle)
