There's this fixation on the Nick Ferarri interview and Starmer's comments and misrepresentation of what he meant, that it was somehow an isolated error. No. The error has been the Labour silence on the issue from the beginning, leaving the SNP to repeatedly ask the tough questions in PMQs.

Aye, Labour stance on Israel/Palestine has been very wishy washy as they tread on eggshells. I get that, but I'm still frustrated by that wishy washiness. To me, KS sounds a wee bit like a younger version of Biden on the subject...i.e. he's desperately trying to keep as many folk onboard during an election build-up...but does tend to get tied up in knots while doing so. I don't underestimate just how difficult that position probably is to deal with. I really hope that Stamer is made of proper stern stuff when he steps into his PM shoes. I'm SNP btw...and am desperate to see these bar steward Tories well gone.

Thatcher after Israel bombed Lebanon withdrew arms sales to Israel for over a decade so its not unprecdented and considering Sunak seeks to emulate the Italian PM Meloni which has stopped arms to Israel so you would think given those two counts Sunak could withdraw sales so easily.

The actions of the United States are not substantive, the " pause " is just that, and when it has served its distraction purpose, arms shipments will resume, and the deficit will be made up. I hope Spain and Ireland move to recognise the Palestinian State, and other EU Member States follow their example, and set out the requirements for a two-State solution to be defined on the ground.

@TheNemocharlie
@TheNemocharlie 14 күн бұрын
Genocide is a war crime tried separately but it's a shame that withdrawal from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) is specifically being targeted by the Conservative Party. Today on our doorstep we have the seemingly "unthinkable" situation where two of our most respected organisations (The Post Office Horizon and NHS contaminated blood scandals) have been found to be behaving in the most disgusting manner, essentially causing loss of life or imprisonment to their staff/patients and then trying to conceal it. This has continued underneath Labour, Liberal and Tory Governments and despite exposure neither organisation has come close to compensating those affected. The NHS is a post-WW2 creation but the Post Office was created many generations ago - yet both have been found to be rotten to the core. They have shamed the entire country and had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the public arena by individuals and journalists - no sign of the police or lawyers because if anything they have been played and taken for fools. Both organisations now prefer to sit on their hands, failing to pay compensation to many affected and instead preferring to let them die. Hopefully, the Post Office has nothing left to hide on the same scale, however the NHS is another story. Even in general nursing it has developed a culture of concealment and turning a blind eye to crimes including murder. When the now convicted mass killer of babies, Lucy Lethby, was first thought to be a danger, the doctors and consultants who brought it to the attention of their management, they were forced to write letters of apology to her. Whistleblowers of individual scandals routinely never work for the NHS again, which suggests the last kind of doctor they want is one who is known for telling the truth, suggesting there is much to hide elsewhere. The same applies to social care staff who interact with the organisation. The "Duty of Candour" is possibly the most abused piece of legislation on record, on a par with drivers in a general speed-restricted 20mph area, 90% of whom break the law daily. Organisations that are supposed to monitor social care standards, such as the CQC and Safeguarding, are illusory. If anything, they are responsible for driving standards down because they operate tick-box systems with metrics are designed to avoid asking the most important questions. An example would be giving a small care organisation who are in fact demonstrably guilty of practicing a fraudulent deception in order to attract the most vulnerable (aka expensive) residents who find they are being given the exact opposite of what they have been promised and are trapped within an environment that ignores all legislation, civil and criminal law, run by criminals for their specific business purposes and when this is brought to the attention of the authorities, a herculean feat in itself, an "Outstanding" rating just weeks after the authorities have committed not to use in future. And hear I must declare an interest, with an NHS Continuing Health Care (CHC) funded member of my family still trying to get his Assessed Needs even minimally met after 7 years. You might think that everyone in the UK was entitled to a social worker if they needed one. This is wrong. The 40,000 people funded by CHC are prevented by statute law from having one, leaving the organisation to be judge, jury and, quite literally, executioner. There is no right to appeal an unlawful decision other than to the person that made it, other than by Judical Review, which can cost approximately £60k. Even this isn't guaranteed to work as CHC staff have been shown to be untruthful even under oath. What this has led to is an organisation that is rotten to the core and far more difficult to expose as it is entirely self contained, responsible for running a third tier NHS relied upon by the Nation's 40,000 most vulnerable people. But watch this space!

I agree in general and it is down to two fundamental reasons. The reflexive and class conscious hierarchialism in the NHS, reinforced by management. This is exacerbated by a managerial culture, initiated by Thatcher but continued under Labour government, that is focused on budgets, targets and cost-cutting. The second fundamental reason is the ideological determination of the Tories to privatise as much of the NHS as they can get away with via a process of financially undermining and demoralising people in the NHS. In the early 2000's an attempt was made to democratise the system, resisted in the main by medical consultants and some managers who saw it as a challenge to their power and authority. This included patient/carer representatives at its best and was supposed to be supportive of whistle-blowers. However the overall governmental financial strategy undermined this and reinforced all the worst aspects of the NHS hierarchical structure. However all this tends to be worse in privatised systems, which also tend to be hypersensitive to any chance of litigation. The more privatised the system the worse it is. The 'root and branch' reinvention of the NHS needs to be along the lines described in parts of Grace Blakeley's book, 'Vulture Capitalism' with patients and the people most involved in direct patient care driving the system. Where this kind of system is used it drives innovation, efficiency and effectiveness in any industry. In health care, where the stress should be on quality of care, it can do the same. In the field of Mental Health, for example, the success of the Soteria Project (documented in the book 'Models of Madness') testifies to this. There are too many vested interests in the ill-health generated by the status quo, from the Food Industry to the Pharmaceutical Industry and the academics, regulatory bodies and politicians in their control, to the power and status conscious health care professionals who are increasingly being taught to put their careers before patients' needs. Nonetheless, having worked in the NHS, there are many within it who do really care and would rise to such changes if given half a chance. The current system, the status quo, makes this impossible. Personally I burnt out after years of regularly working up to twice my paid hours in any given week in an attempt to create a halfway decent service when we were totally under-resourced. I now do some voluntary work and, if anything, the last few years of evidence avoidance and corruption via Big Pharma (see the books 'Bad Pharma' and 'Deadly Medicines and Organised Crime' plus the 2004 - 2005 HOC Health Committee Report (ignored by the government) re: the under-regulation of the malpractices of the Pharmaceutical corporations and this years (2024) All Party Parliamentary Group report indicating that the main regulatory body, the MHRA, is unfit for purpose, mainly due to corporate capture. The system is rotten, but from the top. All the best to you.
